i was wondering if the absense of water moderating the fast neutrons to thermal neutrons could allow the P240 and 242 in the older fuel asssemblies to udergo an increased rate of fission.

@tenzing: mox fuel was loaded into reactor #3'adter a long debate within the prefecture. the article I read was dated august 20 2010 fo approval. it was then loaded in the fall sometime.

Not sure if this has been posted before. A pretty detailed wikipedia article on what happens when corium is formed and melts through the RPV. Answered my question from yesterday "the dynamics of the movement of corium in and outside of the reactor vessel is highly complex, and the number of possible scenarios is wide; slow drip of melt into an underlying water pool can result in complete quenching, while a fast contact of large mass of corium with water may result in destructive steam explosion." en.wikipedia.org(nuclear_reactor)

I wish they would say what the isotope of pu they found.. they can take a soil sample and put it in a multi channel analyzer to give the energy levels and pinpoint the isotope
@elise I guess my point is because of the seemingly false information coming from TEMPCO why are we so willing to believe the information about where the MOX fuel is/was located?

@dean regardibng TEPCO Pu sampling, I'm looking at www.atsdr.cdc.gov (Toxicological Profile For Plutonium, U.S. Department Of Health And Human Services, November 2010) around page 176 and don't see much science regarding Pu238 / 239 & 240 ratios and emmissions events. Just thought you might know off the top of your head...
