@Matsuoko Yes, the only stats I have seen is for Iodine 131 and Cesium 137. Is that just the easiest to measure, the most common, they wouldn't find anything else, ?

@Richard Baum @ Reuters Still awaiting your reply, The Japanese Govt pretty much turned over the disaster relief to the NGO's. Did this affect the ability to get sources? Why is the understanding from your point of view on the decreased coverage? Was ther any pressure about the radiation coverage?

@fiona I don't know, I'd defer to Matsuoko et al. on that. I believe all this radiation in outlying areas is from venting the radioactive gas + explosions(?) from before, but I don't know if that's the same cause of the plutonium.

Could everyone please abstain from social comments, such as "agree", "nice one" etc. The strength of the Reuters site was that they filtered out all useless comments. Here half of the comments are irrelevant. This distracts from the substance and from those comments that actually contribute something. I hope you now realize what enormous amount of work the Rueters team put into maintaining the blog. They took out all the nonsense. Please. this is not a chat club.

Plutonium should be from the same sources, just that as a heavier element it has less travel range.

I ahvent read any news reports about all the boron that the French sent to Japan. Is it assumed that the boron is being mixed with the seawater?

www.tepco.co.jp TEPCO admits plutonium is from recent incident. " thus those Pus are considered to come from the recent incident." So we can put to bed this is natural radiation, there has definitely been a release of Plutonium from this incident.

@you So what I (believe) this report www.tepco.co.jp is saying is that the amount of Plutonium is small, but it's definitely OUR plutonium.

Interesting thing coming out of the tepco camera. Even though it is dark, is it really turned off? If you take the image in to Photoshop and bring the levels out, you get a slight green glow. (Which may be because of the camera at night, because that's one of the two colors that come out, green and blue) But it looks like its near one of the reactors. It may just be a play of the image, but I was wondering if anyone had looked at that before.

I thought that they were only using fresh water on some of the reactors. It's still not clear if boron is being used.

There has been no follow-up on the robots, radiation-protective suits, and other gear to help working in hazardous conditions that the media initially reported a few days after the nuclear accident was apparent. Could an inquisitive reporter could dig up info on what has happened to all these offers of help?

I suspect by "you" you mean me (Markfm) -- something weird in how my posts are going through. Yes, the levels are measurable, but apparently still reasonably small, and TEPCO acknowledges that they are from things happening at the TEPCO site.

@Natalie, that has been discussed a lot, some 6-8 hours ago and some several days prior. I think the consensus was that we cannot really any anything worthwhile out of looking for glows in the nighttime webcam images.
