  • @Radioguy, that Arkansas was a 2.1, but only .1 km deep (that's scary, Japan just had a 4.9 one. What's interesting is the Arkansas quakes are all only within 5 miles of each other, if you look at the satellite, they are in the middle of some guys farm !!!! He must be really wondering if all heck is breaking loose, most of them are shallow

I really think they are just holding on by a thread..... that crew you were talking about last night thats on stand by (biol guys) that isn't cheap to just have there waiting, unless they thought that they were needed, granted we have a lot of our own military there to protect .....

  • @NHK Listener doesn't sound like they are building what i would call a coffer dam,with that sheet piling.... it would overflow, but the slit fence i don't think is going to stop much.... do you get the impresion that they are blocking the intake !100% or is it two completely different operations

  • @fitter There are always a lot of tiny quakes in California and Japan. The constant barrage of them is high, and it's no stretch to attribute extra activity to plate movement. We know we've been seeing a lot of it, particularly on the Western edge in Japan. I'm happy to see all the little relief quakes here, but it doesn't seem to be balancing out. I don't know if that's unusual given plate dynamics or not.

  • @elainekirk We think alike LOL. I went looking,too, and came up with oxygen is heavier than nitrogen and hydrogen. Air doesn't separate, usually, but maybe they're worried about a layer of oxygen forming near the floor? Idk...

  • I tried to work that nitrogen issue out too. I understand adding it as an inert gas to dull the hydrox flammability, and other than ammonia, I can't think what else it might make, but if you think about it, nitrogen makes some pretty explosive products. TNT and nitroglycerin come to mind, but there are others, like ammonium nitrate, NH4NO3. Note the ingredients: N, O, H. Period.

    From wiki: "Ammonium nitrate decomposes into gases including oxygen when heated (non-explosive reaction); however, ammonium nitrate can be induced to decompose explosively by detonation. Large stockpiles of the material can be a major fire risk due to their supporting oxidation, and may also detonate, as happened in the Texas City disaster of 1947, which led to major changes in the regulations for storage and handling."

  • We made too much... luckily we broke it up before it dried. We learned later that cracking as a layer dries can set it off. I'm trying not to imagine nitrogen triiodide made with radioactive iodine.

  • @Reed Thank you sir, I hadn't seen that at all yet!! Watching the footage, I started by comparing the original pre accident images to current ones. Paying very close attention, it seems that the trees took on some discoloration right after the 12th/13 and again after the 23rd, and I believe that they have atrophied even more since, albeit a slow rate. Many things affect this though, the wind blowing in whatever direction (particulate accumulation) and who knows? Maybe the trees in the area develop a tolerance to certain types of radiation over time, like humans with alcohol and chemicals?

  • @elainekirk I think that may be their worry. Nitrogen is relatively inert only in that it doesn't burn, but it forms things that do when you heat it and mix it with organics. I'd want to be sure there wasn't still much seawater in it under those conditions, just because it's too many variables.
