Anyone know more about what this rubble is?

@nancy I read in a report that parts of damaged fuel rods near reactor 2 was spread around, probably from the spent fuel pool as it would take a lot to blow open the reactor cores, also all the workers would be dead if the cores where wide open. so theyre probably trying to pick up scattered fuel pellets along with other junk thats in the way.

Kaykodh Part of the equation is how much of it is actually retained, vs. going back into the sewer system. Your basic math is fine.

That leaked doc states now that they think spent fuel from 3 was ejected as many people on here were thinking happened and also that there was high dose material between 3 and 4 that they bulldozed and also attributed material found a mile away to the #3 sfp.

@all I just wanted to thank everyone for this blog. I lived in Tokyo during my high school years and feel a bit closer to this crisis as a result. I'm driving my husband and teenage sons nuts and I'm really glad that I can share and learn from all of you!

Hi all, see that Japan had another big quake last night. Been watching the quake map, and starting to see an oddity. We are starting to get many small quakes East of the San Andreas fault line in California. It is pretty normal to see small quakes on or around the fault line, but to now see them just East of it shows that something is fracturing away. That and many quakes still around Japan. Don't think that this plate is done moving yet. Japan my be in for lots more to come. Hope Not.... If we start showing them in Phoenix, then really know something is definitely going on !

@jay I read the times article, had not seen the leaked doc.

@Nancy I just meant if this was the leaked doc that the article had referred to. I hadn't seen it either, just wondered if the information was new, or the same that had been reported by NT Times. Sounds like its the same report.

@wtm I've noticed too. There was a 4.2 quake in Nevada in the last day as well. Hopefully it will blow over.

@LM, don't think so, it seems to be getting stronger and expanding, since they are now readily showing east of the San Andreas line. Don't know where were going, but it definitely is showing a lot of movement of the Pacific plate. That and the many quakes now in Arkansas is showing movement of the North American plate Westward too. I hope the original Japan quake isn't the start of massive plate movement ?? They have been hitting about 10 minutes apart on an average.

@wtm I'm not disagreeing with you. I simply am not an expert in plate tectonics and frankly I'm hoping the Big one won't happen in my life time. I also happen to live 33 miles from San Onofre nuclear power plant. The data is definitely showing serious movement. I'm just trying to be hopeful.

@Nancy They were very careful how they reported their plutonium discoveries. I'm betting they found it in a lot more places than the five sites they reported, but "forgot" to tell us.
