@xxx Mox that is unused has to be stored in a sfp due to its strength. So yes, unused MOX is in the sfp of #3 as far as we can guess. They received multiple shipments of MOX but only have a partial load. If they didn't load all they had it would be in the SFP. I need to see if anyone has run the numbers of total we know they have vs. total that would be the percentage load into the reactor.

@Jim Carver There are some things that lean towards some sort of partial criticality may have happened as part of the hydrogen explosion, but people are taking it to an extreme and calling it a nuclear explosion. Worth seeing if some sort of criticality was involved. 3 has some oddities to the explosion, I am not convinced it was a criticality but worth exploring at least some of the new information to see where the new info falls. IE: that the building sucked in before it blew up. It isn't a "sure sign" there was any sort of criticality incident but it does sound like something burned first sucking up air before the big fire ball. That part is interesting but I don't see it as smoking gun. Of course everybody with a blog on the internet has now declared that 3 went off like a bomb. (facepalm) As for polluting the ocean. Someone on physics forum that was supposedly a geologist explained how the fresh water table and salt water table near the shore work. If her theory is right, contamination could be sinking within the fresh water table and passing through to the salt water.

@Nancy That's true, but seepage into the ocean and groundwater is a given whether there's a cover over it or not. Fortunately Japan is not Florida and the basaltic bedrock is fairly impervious except having been fractured by seismicity over the eons. I'm not discounting the probability of fission taking place or chugging either. Just the fact that he sensationalizes it saying a "nuclear explosion", bs, reactors can't physically do that. Chernobyl didn't even do that, that was a different case involving graphite. I'm sure you know that, but anyway.

@elainekirk keep digging, I will try to muck through all those this evening and see what we get. :-) almost anything with drawings we can link back is worth saving.

Does anyone have photos of Unit 4 prior to the final (so far) explosion of unit 3?
