  • @fitter At some point please take a look at my comment to you from an hour or two ago, it's probably on Page 2 at this point. Thanks!

  • @General Armchair not done, not everything has ongoing data. We also have other people tracking daily data. I'm more trying to get those historical stats about the plant somewhere together.

  • @Nancy Okay thanks.
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 9:17:41 PM

  • @General Armchair @nancy not sure what your goal is data or pics, but drawings (or pics in this case) are given a number G-890 rev 0 the first number represents G=gerneral M= mechanical ect.. then the id number... then the REV 1/2/3 (revision) every time a new document or pic comes out you asing the series numbers (the letter here would be build #) 1-123 -rv 0 this way you always know what rev you are working off... but you need to keep a log as you add new rev's

  • @fitter It was a somewhat longish piece about what I saw the reason for blast debris on unit #3 turbine building (I know you're interested in #3).
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 9:22:39 PM

  • @fitter It was this GA posted about 2 hours ago: @fitter (and anybody) I am very new here and don't know what's been discussed and/or resolved. But in reviewing the Cryptome #1 photoset (the Air Photo Services ones cryptome.org ) it looks like you can see blast effects on #3 turbine roof that seem to match the now blown out panels.

Specifically if you go to third through fifth ones down you can see two somewhat separate (though close together) blasts of debris on the #3 turbine roof. The southern edge of the first is almost aligned with with the south edge of #3 reactor building. Whatever blasts across the roof (assume it's the wall panel?) just misses the white edge of the roof, but then blasts the roof and removes a section of the opposite (east) white roof edge. The next blast over (to the north) is a little lower so it stirkes the white edge of the roof and then, I THINK, goes THROUGH the roof into that big hole, and mostly does not penetrate the east white roof edge.

I remember discussion about that hole (not here) -- was it a big chunk that dropped from the sky? Some thought yes but then others pointed out the girder smack in the middle of the hole probably precluded that. But a piece of relatively flimsy wall panel could maybe do the trick -- make the hole but not destroy the girder. The hole is just about the right width for it to have been caused by a wall panel.

The roof is perfectly level. So while both "blasts" seem to be angling down slightly, the one on the north coming in a bit lower.

To my eyes, these blasts seem to point straight at #3 SFP.

That said, the "blasts" to the north of these are less easy to make out and to be honest, do not necessarily point at the SFP. by General Armchair at 9:22 PM

by General Armchair 4/29/2011 9:26:40 PM

  • @elainekirk i ve been looking at those two lines... parts of them make sence for one system, but then have things that would not make sence for what i am thinking so I am trying to figure if the weird parts are just a "quick repair" and that why they don't fit?????
    by fitter 4/29/2011 9:27:52 PM

  • @es @General Armchair @es thanks for the repost... i was looking at that and the wall on the north & south side of #4... the hloe in the turbine building i think maybe a tank or piece of equipment of large concrete came through, it was heavy enough to puncture the roof and if you only break one side of the bean connection and the other side is firmly attached it may have sprung back in place.... build 4 ---- I know we have pic of it OK after 3 explodes... but if you look at the roof steel inthe NW corner you have two pieces that are (running n/s) twisted/bent and the wall is pushed in at the top with the opposing wall (south side) showing something haveing gone over it.... Are we sure that three did not have a second explosion after number 4..... I am just trying to think out side the box, and it really looks like something rolded over the top of 4????
    by fitter 4/29/2011 9:37:04 PM

  • @fitter Yes, several people have suggested a second explosion at 3. Of the top of my head, I recall UKVal, Tenzing and Thunder all independently reaching this conclusion recently. I don't have details of their posted reasoning to hand, but seems it's worth investigating the possibility further for sure.

  • @anybody Does anybody have the link to the satellite pics that were taken right before and after #3 explosion? I can't remember where they are, it was global somethingorother.
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 9:48:20 PM

  • General.. as I read it.. it's possible to stack on top of each other.. but.. the general consensus is.. redesign the wracks to store fuel and racks closer together and use more of the floor space first
    by dean 4/29/2011 9:48:55 PM

  • @fitter @es Re: a second explosion at #3. Are there any pics of the site between the global whatever satellite pics taken at the time of #3 explosion and the Air Photo Services pics (Cryptome photoset #1)?

  • @Bobby1 but we have video of 3 exploding.
    by Nancy 4/29/2011 9:53:02 PM

  • @Nancy A different explosion. Isn't it a coincidence that #2 and #4 exploded almost the same time? And the speculation about a second explosion in #3.
    by Bobby1 4/29/2011 9:54:22 PM

  • @Bobby1 It almost looks like there is debris flying in the 7:00 am pic. I am pretty sure it's not that, but it is interesting :)
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 9:54:53 PM

  • @Bobby1 is there any actual proof of a second explosion at 3?
    by Nancy 4/29/2011 9:55:04 PM

  • @Nancy Proof? It was a hypothesis.

    by fitter 4/29/2011 9:55:46 PM

  • @General Armchair 3's big explosion we have 1 minute before and 3 min after via digital globe sat photos
    by Nancy 4/29/2011 9:55:52 PM

  • @Bobby1 We should be able to match the satellite (Global whatever) pics taken at time of #3 explosion against the Air Photo Services.

  • @nancy Thank you Digital Globe I couldn't recall the name.
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 9:56:24 PM

  • @Bobby1 please make sure you state as such it confuses people. How is that guy coming up with another explosions at 3 at that 6am-ish time. He has nothing to substantiate it?

  • every one.. I came back from doc.. and need a rest.. be back
    by dean 4/29/2011 9:57:13 PM

  • @Nancy I did label it as a hypothesis. That means an idea to be examined.
    by Bobby1 4/29/2011 9:58:06 PM

  • @Bobby I've been looking into our archives at poudreinternetservice.com and specifically at the discussion on 29 March about Unit 4 SFP damage (from very near the bottom of the page upwards). As far as I can gather, it looks like TEPCO originally called the event an explosive sound:
"At approximately 6 am on March 15th, we confirmed the explosive sound and the sustained damage around the 5th floor rooftop area of the Nuclear Reactor Building."

And this was whilst NISA said:
"part of the wall in the operation area of unit 4 was damaged (06:14 March 15th)"

So there's an obvious discrepancy between the TEPCO and NISA reports. I agree things very possibly weren't what we were told Bobby, and also wonder whether the explosive sound TEPCO were referring to here wasn't the one from Unit 2 SC. Or was this sound another blast at 3? It would be bizarre, but could it be that they are simply confirming AN explosion, whilst reporting the extensive [fire? second #3 blast?] damage to Unit 4's 5th floor rooftop area?
    by es 4/29/2011 9:58:24 PM

    cryptome.org

These are the two to compare. If #3 is substantially unchanged, that would mean it's unlikely there was a second explosion at #3.
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 9:58:33 PM

  • @fitter Before I forget, you said that you saw evidence that the south wall of #4 might have been damaged by something rolling over it. I see what you're saying, but I think it's more likely the fact that all the wall pillars on the south side are gone -- that probably is the best explanation for the sagging part of south end of #4 roof (if that's what you meant).
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 10:00:25 PM

  • @Nancy I was looking at the nw corner of #4, if you look at the first two beams running n/s thery are bent in a serpintine, that is the same place were it looks like something hit the north top and went over the building and takes the southside roof line outward.... it just something that does not look right.... just because they are not saying they had two explosions doesn't mean they didn't ...... they did not say four explosed at first .... it was a fire (two) then they added the explosion if i remenber correctly... and they werent showing too many pics back then,, I am just not convineced on the 4 DAMAGE
    by fitter 4/29/2011 10:03:09 PM

  • @General Armchair thats also a possiblity and that would be my only conculsion, except the way the northside of the building looks and the n/w corner has the two serpintine bent connectores... which could just be from the right side caving over... just looking... not sold on all the info TEPCO puts out..
    by fitter 4/29/2011 10:05:54 PM

  • Hmmmmmmmmm....the Digital Globe pics are not nearly as clear as I'd like.

Is it POSSIBLE though, that the #3 roof girders to the south of E-W centerline are more horizontal in the Digital Globe pic than in the Air Photo Services pics?
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 10:08:03 PM

  • If we can't see it it doesn't mean it doesn't exist..... the short video of the sfp they put out today.... don't you ask WHY so short, why not show all or more??? sometimes its what they don't show that has the most info.....
    by fitter 4/29/2011 10:08:14 PM

  • @General Armchair building #4 corner
    by fitter 4/29/2011 10:08:50 PM

  • @fitter I think the 8th pic down on cryptome.org shows what you're talking about at NW corner #4 reactor building, right? To my eyes the two N-S girders that are bent (one toward the west, the other east, so they almost look to make a circle) were made that way because (FOR WHATEVER AS YET UNDETERMINED REASON) the top section of the North wall got pushed in.
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 10:14:01 PM

  • I don't understand why Air Photo Services only took (or at any rate released) so few pics. If I'd been running that show it would have been click-click-click.
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 10:15:11 PM

  • @General Armchair how about it got pushed in when the lower section was pushed out. When the big piece of (what is likely) shroud metal went flying into the end wall?

    Unrealized spent fuel storage plan?

by Rob in SF via Tepco.co.jp 4/29/2011 10:16:12 PM

  • @Nancy By shroud metal do you mean that big curved piece of (whatever it is?) that is lying on #4 roof girders, right behind the North wall?
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 10:18:31 PM

  • Unfortunately Air Photo Services never got a good full-on shot of North wall of #4 :(
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 10:20:46 PM

  • Barring a second explosion in #3, how do the various short pieces of what look to be roof girder make it onto roof of #4? If they come from #4 they would seem to have to have come from the most northerly section of the roof, essentially between the North wall and the first main E-W girder. Is it POSSIBLE that the big curved piece is from INSIDE #4 -- went up pretty much vertically (breaking through the roof and scattering girders) and then falling back down more or less in place but catching enough of North wall to bow it inward?????
by General Armchair 4/29/2011 10:27:01 PM

  • @General Armchair yep. since the explosion was down by the sfp and they were doing shroud replacement work there were likely multiple types of large panels of heavy steel on the deck. They likely also had welding equipment on the deck at the time.
