@Jim I don't know enough about the subtleties of Japanese culture but I get the impression that TBS and maybe Asahi Shimbun are some of the more challenging to the norm media outlets.

@Jim yes, something major went down at 3 yesterday. Maybe the rising temps either caused a small cook-off of something or they were dumping water trying to get that 300+ degree reading down.

@Jim I think they are over playing opening the doors in 1 also. The only thing I thought opening the doors could do was introduce a significant new source of air. That could blow radioactive air out of areas it has been lingering in due to lack of airflow and could have potentially ignited something that needed more oxygen to react, though the latter being less likely.

Not a peep about 3 and 4 both are actually very significant. I hope the move the camera back to full view soon.

@Nancy I think they're making too big a deal about the air too. I always thought you had to clean first and then disinfect. If you know what I mean.

Don't cah know it's just like hell in one of those buildings, with the SFP's boiling like a caldron and radioactive steam and smoke all over the place.

TEPCO opens doors of troubled No. 1 reactor building
...Through the opened door, workers would soon able to go in and out of the building to begin work to build a new cooling system for the reactor, the most severely damaged at the six-reactor plant, which lost cooling functions in the March 11 quake and tsunami.

TEPCO said it will study the levels of radiation and radioactive substances in the building again after the doors are opened to take necessary protective measures for workers.

Meanwhile, the utility said radioactive strontium about 100 times the normal levels was detected in soil inside the Fukushima Daiichi plant...

...In a related development, the government has decided to allow the fishery industry to operate in waters outside a 30-kilometer radius from the plant, including fishing and removing rubble from the sea, as exposure to radiation through such activities is estimated at up to 1.43 millisieverts per annum, officials said Sunday.

"TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The government plans to consider what to do with a nuclear power station near the crippled Fukushima Daiichi complex without basing discussions on the premise of resuming operation of reactors at the plant, in deference to local people who have taken the brunt of the ongoing nuclear crisis, a government source said Saturday.

The Fukushima Daini power station, located on the Pacific coast about 10 kilometers south of the crippled Daiichi plant, is in a stable condition called "cold shutdown" despite temporarily experiencing a partial loss of cooling functions after it suffered damage from a tsunami triggered by the March 11 earthquake.

With the plants' operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co., grappling with a severe power supply shortage in the Kanto region centering on Tokyo following the disaster, attention is now focused on whether the utility will restart the four-reactor Daini power station in the northeastern prefecture of Fukushima.

While the final decision rests with the utility, the government has determined that it will take full account of the feelings of local residents who have been forced to evacuate due to radiation leaks from the Daiichi complex, the source said."

@elainekirk They like to fantasize, you can't start that thing back up for years, if ever. It suffered core damage too, no matter what they say. They just want to get money to 'fix' it, so they can go spend it somewhere else.

@Paul There are some different feeds, the one I have on my web site is posted below. The Univ. of Wisconsin feed foe google earth is down and has been for two days. that is the best one.
