@Nancy, if something did happen major, that might mean that they would have to evacuate all the workers from the plant. Then all bets are off on the other reactors ???

@WolfDK I don't think they have capability to do much of anything with what is left of 3. The venting pipes are gone, they are filling water through the fire dept. line and have to fill the SFP with a hose. I have not heard about any ability to do so. TEPCO mentioned about the Sat. smoke show that it was a result of 3 having high RPV temps. I think if they could have vented then they would have to prevent more damage

Vent all you want, I-131 is a short half-life product, if it is present, then fission is still occurring. All the readings I get seem OK and the levels are dropping as they should.

Seems that the smoke/steam is originating from center bottom of #3 and then laying low across the bottom toward #4, that is what is laying in the low lying areas towards the camera. Doesn't look like fog !

@WolfDK I don't think they have an automatic pressure release valve. They have the one that used to run to the stack. My understanding is that it can be remotely run but that requries functioning electrical systems. 3's electricals are toast. The other way to vent it is manually open the vent.

@Bobby1 It's the constant rate/even dispersal assumption that gets me. I think when you keep thinking in terms of "per cubic meter" you start thinking of things as evenly dispersed, xxx atoms per 100 cubic meters. How many atoms of Cs-137 in a cubic meter is a Becquerel anyway?

Please look at the pic and look at #1, notice the SFP is a blocked area on the top right of it. Now look at #3, there is no longer a blocked area on the top right of #3

@WolfDK that is what caused 2 and 3 to go boom on top of the hydrogen was the pressure. both have "holes" in their pressure and containment systems. 3 has leaks out the gasket on the RPV cap. Looking at the low smoke I would guess maybe more? Someone like Mark who follows the stats more than I do might have a better idea what is going on right now.

@wtm count the rows of building frame or what is left of it. Two rows down to the work deck. The steam column on 3 seems to be coming out of the work deck. Looks a bit too far to the left to be the SFP

@radioguy Nothing is evenly dispersed, when the cloud gets to N America it's not evenly dispersed, there are long pencil-like fingers of high concentrations, next to other areas that get little. This is what is disturbing. Areas in Poland had 50-100 times differences in concentrations over a few miles at Chernobyl.
