@Edano TBS and Asahi Shimbun seem to be of the few that are trying to find out the truth. I did see NHK ran a story about TEPCO withholding reactor data from the 11th, but can't get a copy of the video. That is big if NHK is starting to question things.

I think yesterday's event, the steam show & earthquake and the admission that #1 is leaking out of control, also 3's high rad leak changed things a bit. It is clear that this mess is really out of control and is not over and not getting really better in terms of contamination.

I have been thinking that the best way they can control information is to knock out the TBS cam. All of the negative press that has not been the result of their own admissions have come from people watching tippycam

@Edano, yep, no Hiroshima prefecture. But we do get a TBS channel on our satellite, and it does not stream tippy, just tv shows.

@bo, I like to ask a favor. The man giving this vid presentation: www.ustream.tv seems to know a lot about the Fukushima reactors. There is translation. However, the further we are in his presentation, the more seems to remain untranslated. I wonder whether you could ask a Japanese friend to tell us whether crucial pieces of information pertinent to the early fate of #1 reactor are lost.

Radiation-contaminated area spans 800 square km, new map shows

The total area contaminated with radiation from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant is estimated at about 800 square kilometers, or about 40 percent the size of Tokyo, according to a radiation map created by the science ministry and U.S. Department of Energy.

The report uses the same level of contamination (555,000 becquerels or higher of cesium-137) that was used to issue compulsory evacuation orders in the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986.

Interestingly #1 water pressure and radiation readings www.tepco.co.jp haven't been updated since 5 May, and they have no drywell radiation readings. The other reactors have been updated. That's convenient!
