@Nancy - each linked documant has a different URL, and to confuse us rather than update on the same URL each revision because it has the time at the end has a different URL, which is why one needs to be sure to refresh the master page to pick up the latest docs.

@peter this is one reprocessing plant and they have another opening next yr and the pipeline going through the deep blue sea is in this report because it split and leaked radiation in their waters instead of further out in the deep blue sea I imagine docs.google.com

@elainekirk, "The fuel rods probably do not retain the original shape any more." That is very much a Japanese way of talking. It is very impolite to say bad things, and so you say them in a round about way. That is Japanese for, the fuel rods have melted. While it sounds weird, Japanese people can understand it for what the unspoken part is.

Still not sure how much credibility I would put in any #3 Brass flange/phalange readings. That's the sensor that showed a > 650C swing in temperatures (from like +540C to -120C) in just 9 hours, and I really doubt that it somehow went that cold, that fast.

@Markfm - I'm not sure I believe any of the readings in an absolute sense, except that many of them would appear to illustrate fairly consistent trends. I agree about the bronze flange reading, although it has mostly been quite consistent day-to-day, with occasional huge and unexplained swings.

But then that's a bit like the #1 fuel damage - 70% damaged, oh no it's only 50% damaged, oh no hang on it doesn't seem to be there at all!

Yes, just need to remember that that is one of the instruments where the numbers cannot be trusted, calibration shot.

OK, so #1, the "best" of the lot, is an an "oh, heck" scenario -- whoops, no water staying in. Huge amount of water must be going somewhere. Now, #2 has been having those big spikes on the one radiation reading -- perhaps a bad sensor too, or perhaps my theory of some kind of scabbing (buildup of corium near it, then it breaks off and moves) might be true, but that reactor was already leaky. #3 hot, periodic big steam events. Leaning tower of #4 SFP. Yep, sounds like all is well, nothing to see, move on.

As far as sensors, I agree that temp swing makes it sound broke! I don't think liquid N2 could bring a vessel with (most likely) a huge heat capacity from 540 to -120 in nine hours.

About the liquid N2 - this is coming from someone who knows firsthand that a jelly donut won't freeze solid in liquid N2 for at least five minutes. Imagine the mess?

They wouldn't have pumped liquid N2 in, I think (could well be wrong) -- way too much gradient, pipes wouldn't be happy.
