Morning all! Just to point out that from Tepco's point of view older workers would be preferable as longer-term radiation damage is less likely to show up (they have a shorter lifespan left and cells divide more slowly) and compensation for death/injury would be less as they have fewer years to live.

Sadly not a surprise as Tepco and the GoJ have been supppressing almost all the data showing the true seriousness of the situation since the very beginning, a bit like a child's view of reality - if you can't see it, it isn't there!

@hudebnik it is only ten yrs since they lost their licence due to cover ups, the people allowed them to resume operations , in every year since then they have been found to have deceived in some respect ....it is almost as though people feel tepco own them, do they not realise that if tepco fall other companies will take over telephone, electric, news etc services and those other companies will provide employment

@all - I've noticed some interesting points in the #3 raw temp figures www.tepco.co.jp these are today's update. Our old friend the 'bronze phalange' in col 3 has been cycling in temperature, reaching 300C and then dropping back very sharply by almost 200 degrees. It has done it twice, and I'm pretty certain that the temp drops happened after the big smoke/steam events. It is now close to the top of the cycle again so on that basis I'd guess another big smoke/steam in 24 hours or so.

@elaine - yes. Markfm I think it was thought it could be a faulty sensor but on the other hand it is producing quite consistent readings between the events. Maybe it's the only one that's accurate! Might explain the hugely increased water to #3, after a long period of apparent stability. Something is changing.

Japan Times says the worker began work at 6 am this morning and was unconscious by 7 am. This would have been his second day of work at the plant.
