the SFP's would be handled separately,, and may need some water, but,, what do we know about extent of burn or melted now,, that would have to play into decision for no water .. .

@dean Marie suggested (can't remember the name of it, starts with a B) said it was a material they use to seal leaking ponds, it will sink and settle into the low spots and create a seal underwater. If they could inject that low enough could it plug some of those leaks? Would a boron slurry do anything?

Radioactivity at intake of No.3 reactor rises
Radioactive materials in the ocean near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant rose to 3,300 times the legal limit on Sunday.

Tokyo Electric Power Company says it measured 200 becquerels of cesium-134 per cubic centimeter on Sunday morning near the water intake of the No. 3 reactor. The level was higher than on the previous day, when it was 2,300 times the legal limit.

220 becquerels of cesium-137 per cubic centimeter was also detected. At 2,400 times the legal limit, the level exceeded the one found the day before.

On Wednesday, highly radioactive water was found leaking into the ocean from a pit located near the water intake of the No. 3 reactor. 32,000 times the legal limit of cesium-134 was detected there.

TEPCO also reported 2,100 times the legal limit of radioactive iodine was found in seawater near the water intake of the No. 2 reactor. Three points among four research areas along the shoreline also exceeded the legal limit. And 1.7 times the legal limit of Cesium was found close to drainage gates near the No. 5 and No. 6 reactors.

TEPCO says the changes in readings are within a margin of day-to-day volatility. The company will continue to monitor radioactivity levels near the plant.

@all I would like to post a video from TBS (I routinely check their video archives just to see if any new visuals pop up). In the first 12 sec of this video they show the waves hitting Fukushima. I would like input on what potentially appears to be steam rising from between the 2 buildings framed in the shot. Following the train of thought that says things went bad quickly after the earthquake hit.

I don't understand how 4 can still be steaming like that unless they're continuously pouring water in. It was like that for hours before the blackout too

@smoss : it could be water running back to the ocean from higher points and hitting the turbine building from behind.

@Edano Video capture and analysis are not my forte...I was wondering if that wasn't what I was seeing...some sort of back splashing effect

seems to quickly evaporate, also seems like alittle air movement to me,,, some venting from damage to some system in the steam turbine building or aux systems as a result of the EQ or maybe some pipe external to the building breaking

could be steam blown down by heavy wind or water splashing back hitting the turbine building from behind.
