  • @Nancy Have you noticed that 4 has been smoking pretty much 24/7 for the last few days...sometimes only visible from sea cam or tepcam...too? Did they release any temps of 4 in the last 3 days?
    by LM 5/21/2011 2:07:28 PM

  • @WolfDK on the previous 2 steam shows watering was not happening at the time or right before. It was days before.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:08:04 PM

  • THey actually posted temps yesterday it was at 86c in 4 SFP
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:09:08 PM

  • that has to be smoke. Before there was a pale top where the light caught it
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 2:09:13 PM

  • 3 RPV was at 109c and 106c
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:09:37 PM

  • Just a theory...I think the cloud we see come around bottom and across field of view is emanating from the side of 4 away from camera. If the winds are blowing on shore now..that would explain.
    by LM 5/21/2011 2:09:42 PM

  • @Nancy, sure about that ? Huge amounts of steam suddenly appearing usually means something hot got in contact with water
    by WolfDK 5/21/2011 2:10:13 PM

  • @WolfDK am I sure about what?
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:10:41 PM

  • Thanks Nancy. Pretty hot!
    by LM 5/21/2011 2:10:48 PM

  • @Nancy, that watering did not happen on prev steam shows ?
    by WolfDK 5/21/2011 2:12:09 PM

  • Here it comes again.
    by LM 5/21/2011 2:12:21 PM

  • @WolfDK Nope, watering was at least a day previous on the others.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:15:22 PM

  • Clearly, something is very wrong, and I cannot imagine any workers are there? They should be evacuated from that. Also note, usually this time in the mornng, the steam is blown out to sea. Now it's blowing inland, NE.
    by deb 5/21/2011 2:17:00 PM

  • @Nancy, okay then i only see one other possible cause, something got very hot very quick to produce such a show (if we are talking unpressurized pools)
    by WolfDK 5/21/2011 2:17:51 PM

  • Got the whole sequence this time

    by deb 5/21/2011 2:18:08 PM

  • @WolfDK my guess is corium that is in containment is dropping down into standing water in the SC or if it is still in the RPV dropping out of the RPV into a dry well that isn't dry anymore.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:20:48 PM

  • @Nancy, Huh ? corium in unit #4 ?
    by WolfDK 5/21/2011 2:22:07 PM

  • Look at 1:05, for a very brief moment you will see a flash at the edge of the frame
    by deb 5/21/2011 2:22:31 PM

  • @WolfDK no in 3. There should not be anything in 4 outside of the work deck and SFP
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:22:55 PM

  • @Nancy, okay but first big steam show today appeared to originate from unit #4
    by WolfDK 5/21/2011 2:25:10 PM

  • @deb the flash is right over the right end of the SFP on 4.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:25:19 PM

  • @deb that flash is like the 1 I saw above 3 -to right of the tower a while ago - posted below
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 2:25:20 PM

  • .. & I thought I saw 2 flashes last night. also hudebrik reports seeing flashes
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 2:26:14 PM

  • @WolfDK the previous ones did the same thing on at least one of the two. I looks like the steam comes out of 4 at a low level and then creeps over 3. Remember we can't see that on story that is ground level on the camera.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:26:15 PM

  • @Nancy, right that could explain it, hmm we need more cam's up close
    by WolfDK 5/21/2011 2:28:09 PM

  • @UKVal are flashes happening independent of the steam incidents then? Was anything steaming when the others were seen?
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:28:26 PM

  • @Nancy the 1 I saw tonight was at the outset of the 1st steam. Last night - no steam
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 2:29:02 PM

  • @WolfDK I wish one of these incidents would happen with more light and TBS would take notice and hop cameras. A view from the north could tell lots of info
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:29:12 PM

  • @UKVal so 1 by 3, 1 by 4, where were the others spotted
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:29:36 PM

  • @Nancy ones I saw last night were lhs of 3 - towards 2
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 2:30:34 PM

  • starting to obscure the buildings again
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:30:38 PM

  • @UKVal bizarre. Not sure what simple answer cause could do that? The paranoid side wonders if it is some sort of electrical reaction with the radioactivity being released in all that steam.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:31:45 PM

  • @Nancy, i do not wish for these events to happen (think the steam includes some interesting radio isotopes), but i know what you mean and i do agree it would help a lot.
    by WolfDK 5/21/2011 2:31:56 PM

  • @Nancy IDK. Very odd indeed
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 2:32:42 PM

  • @WolfDK nobody wishes they would happen, they are obviously a sign of something not going well.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:33:06 PM

  • The flash, think its the worklight on the putzmeister, afaik they also have a cam on its boom to be able to take a peek
    by WolfDK 5/21/2011 2:34:52 PM

  • @WolfDK the one I saw tonight was too high & too rapid to have been that . Less sure about ones yesterday, but think unlikely
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 2:36:06 PM

  • Just passing by....Ok guys a what if for you to discuss/research as I'm rather tied up today. What if what I saw, which looked like a screen-filling blinding flash followed by a whiteish-pink picture which took 10-15 mins to return to normal, wasn't an actual flash of visible light at all? I don't think it was an explosion even tho it looked like one, as we can't see any damage. What if there was something like a neutron beam emitted from #3 or #4 (it has happened before) which hit the CCD sensor in the camera and sent the white balance haywire? The smoking/steaming started pretty well straight afterwards and has contimued for nearly 5 hours now. Just speculating of course, all views welcomed!
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 2:45:34 PM

  • @hudebnik what time did you see this? (use UK time if poss)
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 2:47:03 PM

  • Screen shots: i1097.photobucket.com

    by deb via I1097.photobucket 5/21/2011 2:47:36 PM

  • @hudebnik good question. What about asking bionerd29 on YouTube. She seems to know something about ccd's and radiation.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:48:18 PM

  • @hudebnik would be great if we could find a video grab of that
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 2:48:54 PM

  • @UKVal 1106 BST, 1006 UTC, 1906 JST
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 2:49:05 PM

  • @nancy - yes I wish I could have got something but I couldn't find my camera and i was franky rivetted to the screen.
