Japan Earthquake | Page 1289

  • Surely someone out there's recording it. I saw an earthquake a day or two ago, it was reported shortly after the camera rattled like crazy for 30 seconds. Sht happens there!
    by Ian 5/21/2011 4:46:47 PM

  • @hudebnik . thank goodness you were watching.
by Mid Valley 5/21/2011 4:48:43 PM

  • Something is going on. Anyone want to take this up and start building a timeline?
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 4:49:00 PM

  • well if anyone finds a recording -the event I saw was approx half hour before the cam panned round to find the megafloat
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 4:49:30 PM

  • @Mid Valley - well I'm an obsessive...
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 4:49:41 PM

  • @nancy - 'fraid I haven't really got time today as this has eaten a fair bit of my day already but I'll give whatever assistance I can. At lease I noted the times at the time!
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 4:50:51 PM

  • All the light is much duller the reflection off #4 #2 panels is virtually zilch - there must be more than steam in the atmosphere to cause that
    by elainekirk 5/21/2011 4:55:29 PM

  • @nancy - would you have time to grap the various pics and put them on a houseofoust so that they are all together? We can annotate them later. ty
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 4:58:01 PM

  • I reckon if seeing this is a low sun phenomenon we should see the same in around 4 hours. Or it could be random....
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 4:58:05 PM

  • Was the flash sudden or sustained?
    by Ian 5/21/2011 4:59:51 PM

  • @hudebnik I put the two images and space for notes over in the WIKI so multiple people can add things in. If anyone could drop in times and other notes from the conversation on the WIKI it would be a huge help. I am trying to finish the static pages for the group website this morning.

    by Nancy 5/21/2011 5:03:24 PM

  • @ian - it started very suddenly, then lasted as white maybe 5 seconds then slowly changed from white to pink. I reckon Bobby1's pic is about a minute after the flash, could be 30 secs tho. Good joj I have a good visual memory!
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:03:33 PM

  • @UKVal, I saw moments after the flash when the screen was a glowing pink/purple, and then the screen became nighttime by my recall, so the Sun was down by my recall. I disregarded the coloration I saw as a camera fluke (not having seen the flash) but was then puzzled when the camera view transitioned fairly quickly to full night because I presumed daylight was being affected to appear pink/purple.
    by Ian 5/21/2011 5:03:49 PM

  • @nancy - that's great, thanks.
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:03:53 PM

  • Analysts dispute TEPCO's estimate of height of tsunami www.asahi.com
    by elainekirk 5/21/2011 5:04:31 PM

  • @Ian can you add approx time of day and your description to the wiki?
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 5:04:36 PM

  • @Ian - I didn't see the same event as hudebnik, but something similar at 1st light that am
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 5:05:03 PM

  • Yes, I can put a time because I responded to a comment here by hudebnik. Also, however took the screen cap, just look at the files save time.
    by Ian 5/21/2011 5:06:15 PM

  • whoever took
    by Ian 5/21/2011 5:06:36 PM

  • @ian - I reckon you probably tuned in about 5 mins after the flash. I noted it here at 1008 UTC and nobody responded to my post for 5 mins
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:06:39 PM

  • @Ian - I have'nt seen flash, but vivid pink fading to bright white & washed out pic -except for a strong visual round 3 in the same place - only visible at an angle to the screen
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 5:07:11 PM

  • I noted original flash as 1006 UTC, 1906 JST
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:07:14 PM

  • I reckon Bobby1's pic would be 1007 UTC
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:09:04 PM

  • @all do we have anyone who has been recording teppy cam?? Did we get this on video? can we find it anywhere?? am searchign myself too.
    by Meretisa 5/21/2011 5:10:35 PM

  • @elaine - that Asahi report is interesting because according to the pics of the flooding the water was a max of 4 metres deep around the plant. I read somewhere that the plant ground level by 1-4 was 6 metres above sea level. Anyone remember?
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:10:40 PM

  • @meretisa - at the moment we think not, tho somebody must have done. Is there a Japanese speaker online who could contact TBS news? They should have beeen recording.
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:12:05 PM

  • @Meretisa Deb has been recording but was moving the computer at the time this happened. I think people are looking?
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 5:13:53 PM

  • hudebnik commented while it was happening at 10:08AM my time, which would be about 11PM Japan time... it was nighttime as I recall. If you copy the time of a comment here, I get two times, as for this case I get: 10:13:40 AM6:13 AM . I'm presuming one is my time and the other is pacific time. 10AM fits my recall too.
    by Ian 5/21/2011 5:14:44 PM

  • @Ian if that flash went off at 11pm JST there is no way someone can argue it is a sunset.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 5:16:02 PM

  • @hudebnik I think it was radioguy did the figures many moons ago re water depth
    by elainekirk 5/21/2011 5:16:15 PM

  • hudebnik's comment is here : www.scribblelive.com and the visible time stamp is pacific time. Copy and past the time to see your time too. So we know it was not the reflected sun (which sets behind the camera).
    by Ian 5/21/2011 5:19:03 PM

  • @Nancy I had to go out for a while this morning after the smoke show 6am PST. Did the flash occur after that? I'm still out and about and haven't had access to the cam since about 6:30am PST...I'm on my iPad.
    by LM 5/21/2011 5:21:57 PM

  • NB chaps - 1006 UTC/GMT is 1900 Japan time, just around dusk not the dead of night.
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:27:47 PM

  • it was 5am here so it was around 6pm there.
by Maureen Burke 5/21/2011 5:29:17 PM

  • OK, removed the mention of 11pm on the wiki. I added the time comments from early this morning.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 5:31:35 PM

  • hmmmm- maybe it was 6am here and 7pm there. I can't remember.
by Maureen Burke 5/21/2011 5:31:42 PM

  • right before the 2 earthquakes.

  • It is disconcerting the way scribble presents local times to all of us, thus ensuring we'll be at sixes and sevens!

  • @hudebnik -yes trying to work out times drives me nuts!
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 5:37:34 PM

  • @UK Val...at the beach, there is a flash when the sun first crosses the horizon.....I don't think that replicates at sunset. It is very, very quick....you can blink if you miss it
    by wrshpr 5/21/2011 5:38:30 PM

  • @hudebnik Using the "xx hours ago" format seems to be the most effective. Until today and yesterday starts being involved.
