Japan Earthquake | Page 1290

  • It was 7pm Japan time. I just couldn't remember when I was up.
by Maureen Burke 5/21/2011 5:39:33 PM

  • @wrshpr For that to have been it, it would have needed to be reflected from something between R3 and R3.
    by radioguy 5/21/2011 5:40:05 PM

  • R2 and R3. That's not out of the question, but there's some difference on Tippycam now anyway. The pinkish light from the R3 core area being reflected from the R2 building is a different lighting.
    by radioguy 5/21/2011 5:41:34 PM

  • @jt - so those pics are about 13
    hours earlier.
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:41:59 PM

  • @Maureen So the flash happened 2-3hrs before the smokeshow I woke up to 6am PST?
    by LM 5/21/2011 5:42:10 PM

  • @wrshpr I didn't see the event but the dense smoke that spread horizontally at low level from #3 is something I havent seen happen before
    by elainekirk 5/21/2011 5:42:14 PM

  • @jt the phenomenon I saw was around half hour before the cam panned to float. Pink light then cam seemed over exposed. Main feature was the aura round #3 - semicircular - in same place as on pics below
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 5:43:08 PM

  • @LM - I guess so. The smoke went on for quite some time. I noticed it right after the first 4.6 quake at 7:20pm Japan time.
by Maureen Burke 5/21/2011 5:44:30 PM

  • at the time I thought it was rising sun reflected on the water. Then later I realsied it would not have taken that shape or stpopped before the top of the screen
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 5:44:33 PM

  • The pink light on the float is probably an atmospheric phenomenon, a translucent cloud passing over the setting sun pinkens the light dramatically, while making the camera adjust as well.
    by radioguy 5/21/2011 5:44:54 PM

  • Methinks tepco is tidying up whats the betting the website returns minus a multitude of docs
    by elainekirk 5/21/2011 5:45:00 PM

  • @elaine - too true!
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:45:26 PM

  • @radioguy the float was early am in Japan
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 5:45:28 PM

  • Must be. the entire site 404? well, it's 2am on a Sunday. That's a standard site maintenance time.
    by radioguy 5/21/2011 5:46:01 PM

  • @LM - I reckon the big steam etc event started about 20-30 mins after the big flash.
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:46:12 PM

  • @hudebnik - Which is precisely when the earthquake happened :)
by Maureen Burke 5/21/2011 5:47:01 PM

  • @Maureen Burke The 6.0?
    by radioguy 5/21/2011 5:47:25 PM

  • @hudebnik Does anyone know how low it was heavily smoking? I woke up at 10PM JST and it was in full swing.
    by LM 5/21/2011 5:47:43 PM

  • I did think I saw some smoke from #3 right about 0 mins after the flash but it was hard to tell as it was dark by then.
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:47:50 PM

  • @UKVal I think it was Daini not Dal ichi. The camera was panning but the float was off Daini when that screenshot was taken.
    by jt 5/21/2011 5:47:51 PM

  • @radioguy - No a 4.6. Which was followed by another 4.6 20 min. later.
by Maureen Burke 5/21/2011 5:48:02 PM

  • Sorry that should be 9 mins after the flash
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:48:20 PM

  • @Lm - how low or how long?
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:48:48 PM

  • Hudebnik's post would have been at 1906 Japan time, here are some Japanese posts:
2011/05/21 Saturday 18:44:19.16 Hey Isn't the picture now dicey? Some BASHU blew off.

2011/05/21 Saturday 18:50:35.81 I was just seeing, too. I picked sound up with ??????? and shook intensely. Aren't a chance and during 3 number chance shining to the sky number 2? My monitoring is old, and a picture spreads, isn't anyone seeing? .

2011/05/21 Saturday 18:53:52.38 It was just seen, but somehow was a screen switched over from time of the some other place you don't have?

    2011/05/21 Saturday 19:06:46.29 It's red!

    2011/05/21 Saturday 19:07:00.40 The snow white which went off.... ., (;; ? ;;)

2011/05/21 Saturday 19:08:26.62 You didn't turn it sudden and I was surprised at the strange color.

2011/05/21 Saturday 19:09:30.08 Light blue this time is pink until just now. Any filters? It may look like an old black and white TV set and be 3 step color soon.

2011/05/21 Saturday 19:25:37.87 Did an explosive sound just do? ?

2011/05/21 Saturday 19:26:48.25 Around nineteen twenty, there was an earthquake of intensity 3 on the Fukushima-ken beach street.

2011/05/21 Saturday 19:26:52.79 I think the sound which shook because of the earthquake.
    by Bobby1 5/21/2011 5:49:16 PM

  • Sea water injection was temporarily halted on Mar 12 due to worries of recriticality. They also added a wireless temp gauge at #4 SFP search.japantimes.co.jp
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 5:51:44 PM

  • Just before 1907 JST for the flash, same as my timing
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:51:48 PM

  • @LM - the whole steam etc event ran I reckon close to 3 hours. @Elaine @maureen can you confirm?
    by hudebnik 5/21/2011 5:52:26 PM

  • @hudebnik Ahhhh. That does seem to support some event....as it was really going strong 3hrs later.
    by LM 5/21/2011 5:53:36 PM

  • @hudebnik - I agree with that.
by Maureen Burke 5/21/2011 5:53:37 PM

  • How far is the camera from the site? How long would it take sound to reach it?
    by Bobby1 5/21/2011 5:54:00 PM

  • Great find Bobby! This one had to have been seen by many people in Japan if it was around 6pm. People would be finishing work, getting home, etc.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 5:54:08 PM

  • @Bobby1 somewhere in the 30km range
    by radioguy 5/21/2011 5:54:58 PM

  • @hudebnik The steam event has been going a while when I hopped on about 8:30am CST. It continued for at least an hour past that.
    by Nancy 5/21/2011 5:55:02 PM

  • speed of sound at sea level = 340.29 m / s
    by radioguy 5/21/2011 5:55:29 PM

  • I posted the start of the big steam event on the blog
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 5:55:55 PM

  • almost exactly 5 hrs ago
    by UKVal 5/21/2011 5:57:28 PM

  • It sounds from the Japanese posts, that there was an explosion with a sound and shaking 22 minutes before it turned pink.
    by Bobby1 5/21/2011 5:59:53 PM

  • @hudebnik What were you smoking at the time, and have you got any left? ;) ;)
    by Paul 5/21/2011 6:03:05 PM

  • @Bobby1 somewhere in the 88 second range on the sound from plant to cam.
    by radioguy 5/21/2011 6:03:52 PM

  • last quake in the area was a 4.6 7 hrs ago
