  • @Rob in SF Exactly. But if you read between the li[n]es you can easily pin point a lot of conflicting official information. I'm not saying they lie, I don't think they do, but they use the English language in a very smart way to disguise the true meaning of their official statements.
by Pedro Jesus 5/23/2011 9:30:55 PM

  • @elainekirk They'll just make the signs in English and all the Mongolians will think it's a iPad storage facility.

  • I wonder if the money governments spent on nuclear through grants etc etc would actually be better left in the taxpayers pocket , Most leccy is lost en route so local or home based energy sourcing is surely the way forward
    by elainekirk 5/23/2011 9:32:17 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus - Darn this information age!
by Rob in SF 5/23/2011 9:32:37 PM

  • @Elainekirk- I beg to differ on the assumption that Mongolia is a big producer of Uranium. "Kazakhstan produces the largest share of uranium from mines (33% of world supply from mines), followed by Canada (18%) and Australia (11%). " www.world-nuclear.org
    by Lethbridgean 5/23/2011 9:33:56 PM

  • wow, if it wasn't so sad i would laugh my ass off. nuclear waste to mongolia. what a joke !
    by Edano 5/23/2011 9:34:37 PM

  • @elainekirk If I'd think Portuguese tax payers' pockets I'd definitely say NO. But it's not safe in our Government's pocket either.

  • @Elaine -BTW - I'll probalby need the zimmer frame 1st but Scotland did plan to go non nuke back in the 80's - (another 2 decades d'you reckon?

    by UKVal 5/23/2011 9:37:41 PM

  • @elainekirk - Its not to say that it won't be a major exporter in the future as it does have a huge untapped mineral base. Just not developed now.
    by Lethbridgean 5/23/2011 9:37:50 PM

  • @Lethbridgean shhh! we don't want them to know thaat! God knows there's enough of the stuff being mined already
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 9:38:48 PM

  • @Rob in SF Not at all. There's a conspiracy theory running around that the IMF's number one's sex scandal might have been orchestrated by Portuguese secret intelligence. One of the probable follow ups is Portuguese. Anyway, we're officially in recession since last trimester. Not good at all. But we're still in the forefront of renewable (sustainable) energy sources. The US and Europe have some ongoing projects around here.
by Pedro Jesus 5/23/2011 9:53:29 PM

  • Hi @all - back for a moment. @pedro - which are these fusion power plants you mention as under construction? As far as I'm aware nobody has managed to make fusion reactors work yet.
    by hudebnik 5/23/2011 9:57:41 PM

  • France will get to host the project to build a 10bn-euro (£6.6bn) nuclear fusion reactor, in the face of strong competition from Japan news.bbc.co.uk - think thery're still trying to make it work!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 9:59:15 PM

  • @bo they cannot admit to quake damage because they failed to upgrade to the new 2006 guidelines therefore they cannot be believed imho
    by elainekirk 5/23/2011 9:59:58 PM

  • @hudebnik I will have to research that. I have an article or two on my New Scientist magazines (still on archive) talking about them. I will post them tomorrow. I have to go for now. But it is working, trust me.

The first commercial demonstration fusion power plant named DEMO is proposed to follow on the research of ITER to bring fusion energy to the commercial markets. en.wikipedia.org
