  • some elements have higher melting points so some debris would probably exist,,, spent fuel pool fire would consume the stainless liner for the most part etc. etc
    by dean 5/23/2011 6:30:19 PM

  • @Dean If they somehow managed to cover with water wouldn't they be able to put the flames out?
    by LM 5/23/2011 6:31:25 PM

  • @Bobby1 so do I - to the limits of my understanding as I'm no expert. But if a respected Universiti professor tells Parliament that TEPCO or someone has put pressure on him not to release info then the Government will have to listen -& hopefully act!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 6:32:07 PM

  • supposedly
the flames are so intense that it would be unsuccessful to put it out
    by dean 5/23/2011 6:32:32 PM

    by UKVal 5/23/2011 6:32:45 PM

  • @Dean Yikes..I hope that if those are flames they're coming from somewhere else!
    by LM 5/23/2011 6:33:29 PM

  • @LM I'm pretty sure they're not from the SFP's at present...
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 6:34:03 PM

  • @UKVal That would be a relief!
    by LM 5/23/2011 6:34:33 PM

  • @Bobby1 i've just twigged that we're at X purposes -talking about diff posts by Panser!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 6:35:11 PM

  • the previous administration kept plugging away and pumping millions and billions of dollars to live up to the promise from DOE for YUKA, then policitcal and local pressure mounted and it was never opened.. when the current administration came in .. one of the first things done was to close YUKA and try to determine something else.. since then pressures from commercial and others turned the hand on the administration and it was forced to say.. WE'LL RECONSIDER OPTIONS FOR YUKA,, and the commissioned the BLUE RIBBON committee to provide a study to the President on FUEL CYCLE HANDLING IN USA..
    by dean 5/23/2011 6:35:19 PM

  • @Dean thank you so much for the info.
    by Mona 5/23/2011 6:35:54 PM

    by UKVal 5/23/2011 6:36:11 PM

    by UKVal 5/23/2011 6:38:56 PM

  • @Bobby1 I read on you link about how internal radiation in Fuku are messured by using a method for external radiation – if this is true, it really is a scandal – is this actually the same thing, as these nuclear workers who, accordning to Tepco’s messures, should be safe but in stead were suffering of high internal radioation damages? Any opinions?

  • 18 no-entry zone holdouts stay put
"If I move my 91-year-old mother, she will die. So we, together with my husband, stay here, possibly to be exposed to radiation and die," said a 62-year-old woman over the phone.

She is one of 18 people who remain within the no-entry zone, the area within the 20-kilometer radius of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture.

  • @Mona That articles misstates the ICRP position, they do consider internal radiation risks. But they are grossly understated according to the ECRR.

  • UK.. psssssst.. in a quiet whisper.. I think it will expand to global soon,

  • Only 30% of donations reaches victims
Only about 30 percent of money donated to help victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami has reached people in the hardest-hit prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.

  • Lone pine may be seed of forest's rebirth

Only one tree, estimated to be from 270 to 280 years old, survived the tsunami. It has been a great emotional support to residents, who have dubbed it "kiseki no ippon matsu" (the miraculous lone pine tree).

  • @dean if it is this serious, we should not wisper, but cry out to our governments to send their military transport plains to evacuate as many as they could – we should CRY out for an international evacuation rescue.

  • Mona... I am sympathetic to your comment, our society today seems to stall when there isn't a procedure or directive to do something or when our disaster organizations get all twisted around the gears.. and, to the outside world it's as if governments choose to kill thousands rather than to move with help
    by dean 5/23/2011 6:52:25 PM

  • @UKVal " The groundwater is higher than the basement. That can't be right -it must be a mistranslation" Why, these structures have more than basement underground.
