  • @dean , I think your non-profit idea is putting a finger on the problem. Utilities ought to serve the public, and not share holders.
by Peter Melzer 5/24/2011 12:49:47 AM

  • Worth keeping in mind as we watch this situation disintegrate.

  • “Risk” is a function of three factors (Kaplan and Garrick, 1981):
    • The scenario describing the undesirable event,
    • The probability that the scenario will occur.
    • The consequences if the scenario should occur.

    by Veenie 5/24/2011 12:51:59 AM

  • @dean The plant engineer said in an interview with the one govt agency guy that went in with a camera that he had to make a case and fight just to get temporary tsunami walls in front of 3 and 4. That was such a telling statement and in that subtle Japanese read between the lines, it was a scream for help.

    by dean 5/24/2011 12:53:40 AM

  • @Veenie, notice the article from this morning that they are going to let some businesses located in Fukushima city to reopen if they monitor the radioactivity in the area. How do you say radioactive car parts and two-way radios now coming into the U.S. and elsewhere !!!

by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 12:56:45 AM

  • This isn't just about news management by TEPCO, thisthe gJ & most of the other govts. too...

  • @Rob in SF It's the exact plan BP used, but unfortunately for TEPCO, nukes got legs...
    by radioguy 5/24/2011 12:57:22 AM

  • People got bored with the daily updates -it's old news in most of the world now. & Governments will try to keep it that way
    by UKVal 5/24/2011 12:58:01 AM

  • @Angie Heh. People die planking!
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 12:58:49 AM

  • I've come to the conclusion ,, we just have to learn to get the real meanings out of statements made.. ie:.. the fuel configuration has been affected...= fuel is melted... it's not necessarily hiding in my mind now that this long has gone by.. just stating a thing in a different .. less catastrophic way..
    by dean 5/24/2011 12:59:04 AM

  • @ms in la They also like to dump after 3pm JST so it's after the late news on the East Coast of the US.
