  • The corporatocracy will win as usual.
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 12:29:43 AM

  • @UKVal Russians did it...you sure can.......
    by Veenie 5/24/2011 12:29:50 AM

  • @Rob in SF yes managment of news seems to be all they can accomplish. 'know thy enemy'
    by UKVal 5/24/2011 12:29:59 AM

  • @Veenie ask Dean
    by UKVal 5/24/2011 12:30:15 AM

  • @UKVal The telling image to me (and very pointed in what it says about the long-term capabilities of our species) was of the entire pyramid complex at Giza overlaid to scale. It's a match. So ALL we have to do is build an entombment capable of enclosing the Pyramid complex at Giza and capable of lasting 100 times longer. Easy peasy.

    by Edano 5/24/2011 12:30:33 AM

  • @radioguy you're forgetting there are major fdifferences between this & chernobyl
    by UKVal 5/24/2011 12:31:02 AM

  • So are they admitting full or partial? They can't have both.
    by LM 5/24/2011 12:31:36 AM

  • @radioguy And build the entombment with rapidly deadly exposures of radiation.
    by Bobby1 5/24/2011 12:31:40 AM

  • I'm not comparing this at all. I'm trying to look at this as the most monumental engineering challenge we've ever seen, and I wonder if we're up t it.
    by radioguy 5/24/2011 12:31:52 AM

  • @LM its Tepco of course they can! roflmao!
    by Angie 5/24/2011 12:32:18 AM

  • @Bobby1 "Japan has been fortunate that most of it has gone over the Pacific and nailed the US"
If you believe the dispersal projections most of it has nailed the Pacific ocean.
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 12:32:41 AM

  • @radioguy the problen with entombment is the ocean and the groundwater surely
    by elainekirk 5/24/2011 12:33:15 AM

  • @Edano LOL I read that and it didn't register because it was things we all have been discussing for weeks. Yea, TEPCO admitting it is news. The now admission that 3's RPV is toast leads me to think the steam shows are corium hitting water. This is such a mess. At someone someone has to figure out a real plan to get this under control. They have one or two plant engineers trying to deal with this but they have to go through the corporate office for everything.
    by Nancy 5/24/2011 12:33:30 AM

  • In globally-rising seas.
    by radioguy 5/24/2011 12:33:35 AM

  • @radioguy Where the hell do they even start with it??? I just look at it and think "holy hell"..........I really want to see some action but what......maybe the injections into the ground may help....if its not already to late!
    by Angie 5/24/2011 12:33:56 AM

  • @Rob in SF - yeah a big ol' food supply.
    by Lethbridgean 5/24/2011 12:34:06 AM

  • Of course they will have to entomb eventually but they can't do it now. - there's too much heat. Theres' far more unreleased energy there than there was at Chernobyl.
    by UKVal 5/24/2011 12:34:19 AM

  • @Rob in SF The ocean got a lot of it. Polluting the fish in areas where the sea dumping hasn't reached yet.
    by Bobby1 5/24/2011 12:34:42 AM

  • @radioguy hard to tell if we are up to it when we can't get real info out of TEPCO for anyone to really help with the situation.
    by Nancy 5/24/2011 12:34:49 AM

  • Lionel Hutz: Uh yeah, if you could just erase the word "partial" and substitute the word "full," and also, if you could erase the word "dog" and substitute the word "son" and erase the word "accidentally" and substitute the word "repeatedly."
    by bo 5/24/2011 12:34:58 AM

  • @bo -LOL
    by Lethbridgean 5/24/2011 12:35:34 AM

  • And best we can tell there are three reactors with rolling criticalities and an additional SFP that is teetering and boiling at the same time... surely a bad combination.
    by radioguy 5/24/2011 12:35:37 AM

  • @UKVal .Part 3 of the Escape from.....series..now featuring Edano Kan in ....TEPCO gone Rogue.......even Godzilla flees Japan
    by Veenie 5/24/2011 12:35:39 AM

  • look folks we've known this for ages. The worry for me is that innow admitting it TEPCO are effectively saying 'we've lost control' God knows what that means for all of us & especially the Japanese
    by UKVal 5/24/2011 12:35:54 AM

  • @Angie What was I thinking?! LOL!
    by LM 5/24/2011 12:36:07 AM

  • @UKVal NOW, will the JAPANESE finally take to the streets?
    by Veenie 5/24/2011 12:36:42 AM

  • It is Monday in the states. It was last Monday that we got the big admission and data dump. So each week at this time we get another tidbit of the truth?
    by Nancy 5/24/2011 12:37:11 AM

  • @Nancy @dean www.nei.org

by Rob in SF via Nei.org 5/24/2011 12:37:27 AM

  • @UKVal That's my take. "OK, we can't bluff any more. Grandma is starting to smell up there on the roof. We have to come clean."
    by radioguy 5/24/2011 12:37:49 AM

  • @Veenie roflmao! @UKVal yep I agree them saying it is kinda like admitting defeat........@Lm sheesh I have no idea what you were thinking! Thought you were up with the Tepco speak by now lol!
    by Angie 5/24/2011 12:38:00 AM

  • i have never heard a word from tepco about how to deal with molten corium outside of containment. i bet they have no plan at all.
    by Edano 5/24/2011 12:38:04 AM

  • @Veenie I do hope they do to demonstrate -as should we all. I also pray that there will not be blind panic & a loss of faith in everything. A lot of the deaths & illnesses from Chernobyl were caused by the extra stress & fear
    by UKVal 5/24/2011 12:38:18 AM

  • @radioguy - "This thing is about to hit the fan, better 'fess up now!"
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 12:38:42 AM

  • #2 pool heat exchanger video of plans www3.nhk.or.jp
    by elainekirk 5/24/2011 12:38:44 AM

  • @radioguy, on another venture, I came across this finding. In his article for The New York Times with the title "In Case of Emergency: What Not to Do" dated Aug. 21, 2010, Peter S. Goodman quotes the communications strategist Eric Dezenhall observing wisely: "A corporation in crisis is not a corporation. It is a collection of panicked individuals motivated by self-preservation.” This is the link to the article www.nytimes.com . I believe it pertains to Tepco at this time to the t!
by Peter Melzer 5/24/2011 12:38:52 AM

  • You're all making me laugh! Much needed!
    by LM 5/24/2011 12:39:02 AM

  • @Edano of course they don't. No-one does!! This is unprecedented anywhere in the world
    by UKVal 5/24/2011 12:39:08 AM

  • @Peter Melzer That's an excellent quote, and just bang on.
    by radioguy 5/24/2011 12:39:33 AM

  • so they have decided that frequent releases about #1 being a priority are wearing thin so this week we get #2 did they ever accomplish anything at #1?
    by elainekirk 5/24/2011 12:40:12 AM

  • @Bobby1 Thankfully it's a pretty big puddle...
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 12:40:23 AM

  • @UKVal : as i said, in chernobyl the corium catching was one of their first concerns... in fuku not.
    by Edano 5/24/2011 12:40:31 AM

  • @elainekirk My response to that is SURE!
    by LM 5/24/2011 12:40:34 AM

  • @LM see now you have it! lol @Edano........so too late now to try catching it?
    by Angie 5/24/2011 12:41:19 AM

  • @elainekirk Oh yes. We decided the radiation was too high to do anything about R1... wasn't that it? So now we're moving to R2? I don't think it's going to look much better. ;)
