@UKVal The telling image to me (and very pointed in what it says about the long-term capabilities of our species) was of the entire pyramid complex at Giza overlaid to scale. It's a match. So ALL we have to do is build an entombment capable of enclosing the Pyramid complex at Giza and capable of lasting 100 times longer. Easy peasy.

I'm not comparing this at all. I'm trying to look at this as the most monumental engineering challenge we've ever seen, and I wonder if we're up t it.

@Edano LOL I read that and it didn't register because it was things we all have been discussing for weeks. Yea, TEPCO admitting it is news. The now admission that 3's RPV is toast leads me to think the steam shows are corium hitting water. This is such a mess. At someone someone has to figure out a real plan to get this under control. They have one or two plant engineers trying to deal with this but they have to go through the corporate office for everything.

Of course they will have to entomb eventually but they can't do it now. - there's too much heat. Theres' far more unreleased energy there than there was at Chernobyl.

look folks we've known this for ages. The worry for me is that innow admitting it TEPCO are effectively saying 'we've lost control' God knows what that means for all of us & especially the Japanese

i have never heard a word from tepco about how to deal with molten corium outside of containment. i bet they have no plan at all.

@Veenie I do hope they do to demonstrate -as should we all. I also pray that there will not be blind panic & a loss of faith in everything. A lot of the deaths & illnesses from Chernobyl were caused by the extra stress & fear

@radioguy, on another venture, I came across this finding. In his article for The New York Times with the title "In Case of Emergency: What Not to Do" dated Aug. 21, 2010, Peter S. Goodman quotes the communications strategist Eric Dezenhall observing wisely: "A corporation in crisis is not a corporation. @elainekirk Oh yes. We decided the radiation was too high to do anything about R1... wasn't that it? So now we're moving to R2? I don't think it's going to look much better. ;)
