  • @Rob in SF Yeap! Only thing I can think of is trying to cool the blob so it doesnt move any further? But then again I thought they said they didnt know where it was in there?? Oh I am lost again! @Veen lol ok so control of panic "cold shutdown" vs "Crap bad big mess" ??
    by Angie 5/24/2011 8:37:31 AM

  • The D/W reading has been dropping, but at 425 mSv it's still nothing to sneeze at, or up...
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 8:37:46 AM

  • The google cache shows them the other way round, but it makes sense for the drywell to be decreasing and the S/C to be increasing
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:40:17 AM

  • The torus is lower than the drywell en.wikipedia.org so if correct it implies that the corium has exited the drywell..?
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:42:25 AM

  • Good point, @hudebnik, about the corium/torus status. Bye, all. Gotta go for now. Thanks.
    by Alblee 5/24/2011 8:44:37 AM

  • @Angie Corium may be in the big torus / suppression chamber, or somewhere on the basemat, (green). I believe that regardless, there is water there too. Apparently it will take a lot to make it through the basemat, especially if it's all underwater as well.

    FUKU HAIKU 5.23.11

now to find the molten mess
    complete meltdown within the hour
    China syndrome for Japan
melted pile of fuel in 3.5 hours
    More beer needed!
I have never served lunch under an ash cloud
    200Sv is instant death, right?
cool the blob so it doesnt move any further
"cold shutdown" vs "Crap bad big mess"
    Yeap!
by ms in la 5/24/2011 8:47:32 AM

  • @ma - exquisite! TY
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:48:23 AM

  • Even Fuku haiku has a balance to it.
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:48:52 AM

  • @hudebnik You guys wrote it, I'm just the assembler. :)
by ms in la 5/24/2011 8:49:05 AM

  • Remember, Fuku means fortunate or lucky.
    by bo 5/24/2011 8:49:52 AM

  • From the schematics the thick basemat doesn't extend under the torus, because the corium will just sit in the CV and not choose to go down those nice big pipes into the torus
    will it?
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:50:29 AM

  • Thanks for that @bo. Well lucky as in nothing has blown up, that has to be luck, it certainly wasn't down to the design or operational procedures!
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:51:48 AM

  • @ma - assembly language is good!
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:52:16 AM

  • @hudebnik Didnt @Dean have a pic with like a elephant foot at the end of some pipe (different plant of course)?? Sorry I am not very techi! @Rob thank you! @Ms awesome work as always!
    by Angie 5/24/2011 8:52:46 AM

  • @ms sorry, very small screen here.
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:53:00 AM

  • @angie - indeed he did, I think one eventually formed at both TMI and Chernobyl and both times it flowed out through pipes/vents en.wikipedia.org(nuclear_reactor)
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:55:19 AM

  • @hudebnik Thank god I got something right! lol
    by Angie 5/24/2011 8:57:40 AM

  • @angie - you are infallible!
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:58:09 AM

  • @hudebnik Apparently the basement floor (green) is meters thick as well. It seems the corium shouldn't just slip down those giant tubes...

  • @hudebnik It's okay, I was wondering why you were calling me "Ma"!! LOL!
by ms in la 5/24/2011 8:58:56 AM

  • @rob - well from what I've heard corium is notoriously disobedient...
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 8:59:28 AM

  • @hudebnik -
Corium is a bit of a bully, pushes himself right through wherever he pleases. So brash and uncouth!
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 9:01:06 AM

  • Ok anyone got the link I think @wtm had on a reasearch study done that said the evil Corium would melt through the basemat in 28 days???
    by Angie 5/24/2011 9:05:00 AM

  • The trouble with ALL nuclear safety stuff for me is that it is purely theoretical and (obviously) has never been tested. Well until now that is. As Arnie Gundersen said yesterday 3 meltdowns with 3 containment failures is completely u nacceptable.
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 9:13:10 AM

  • @hudebnik I agree and from what I have just been reading on wiki it is scary and very sad.....
    by Angie 5/24/2011 9:15:52 AM

  • Just thinking aloud here - the 201Sv is shown on the graph below as heppening on 21/22 May. I witnessed the brilliant flash and strange effects on the camera on evening of 21st Japan time...
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 9:16:01 AM

  • @hudebnik the exact same thing is true about fighting a nuclear war, or believing you can dodge one with space lasers.
    by bo 5/24/2011 9:16:06 AM

  • @bo - absolutely
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 9:16:28 AM

  • If the Corium has taken a detour into the S/C... trouble, and 200 Sv seems to indicate such, no?

  • If you would like to read my account of the flash etc it is at fukushimafaq.wikispaces.com
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 9:17:11 AM

  • @hudebnik so would that evening of the 21st in Japan, or early morning of the 21st in Japan?
    by bo 5/24/2011 9:17:25 AM

  • @bo - about 1900 on 21 May in Japan
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 9:17:58 AM

  • @Rob That picture looks like its leaning, like reactor #4 :)

  • Those vents are 81 inches. That's over 6 1/2 feet...
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 9:18:44 AM

  • @rob - which makes them irresistible...
    by hudebnik 5/24/2011 9:20:06 AM

  • @Rexz - Hi-tech web blueprints track their real world bldgs. apparently. ;^)
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 9:20:15 AM

  • @hudebnik - Corium, "Hey, what's down this giant hallway?"
by Rob in SF 5/24/2011 9:20:57 AM

  • @Rob in SF And less concrete to go through to hit the bedrock/soil ??
    by Angie 5/24/2011 9:21:01 AM

  • Off to catch a plane all, back tonight.
    by bo 5/24/2011 9:21:13 AM

    by Angie 5/24/2011 9:21:38 AM

  • @bo - cheers for now, mind the ash.
