  • Something that didn't really click before ""The water is not stored in tanks but in the building, so there is the possibility of it leaking from somewhere" referring to the "nuclear waste disposal area ", I thought it was the facility normally designed for liquid storage. I remember them looking for a building to store water in, but I thought they dropped the idea as stoopid . search.japantimes.co.jp

  • Old news but seems worth repeating: IAEA academics warn the company has failed to disclose the scale of radiation leaks and faces a “massive problem” with contaminated water. "Tepco knows more than they’ve said about the amount of radiation leaking from the plant,” Jan van de Putte, a specialist in radiation safety trained at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands, said yesterday in Tokyo. “What we need is a full disclosure, a full inventory of radiation released including the exact isotopes.” (Bloomberg, May 27)

  • Hi all - Trying to decide whether I like Chrome as it's faster & highlights my many typos or IE as I can export docs to One Note quickly & they're easier to locate due to the tabs... .....still need lots more signatories for the open letter to the Japanese government. Had 1 from India, but I can't read the script...

  • Radioactive pollution is now detected in snow and freshwater fish. On May 29, a private association of mountain lovers [in Fukushima], "Association for preserving the primal forests in Takayama Mountain", announced the result of radiation analysis of snow samples taken from the mountains around Fukushima City in Fukushima Prefecture. High concentration of radioactive cesium was detected from snow samples taken below the altitude of 1,500 meters (4,921 feet), with the highest being 2,968 becquerels per kilogram from the sample taken on the east slope of Mount Minowa at 1,338 meters high. Radioactive cesium that exceeds the provisional national limit (500 becquerels per kilogram) has been detected from freshwater fish in the Abukuma river that runs through Fukushima City, and it is considered that radioactive cesium in fish comes from the water from melted snow. translate.google.com cesium that exceeds the provisional national limit (500 becquerels per kilogram) has been detected from freshwater fish in the Abukuma river that runs through Fukushima City, and it is considered that radioactive cesium in fish comes from the water from melted snow.nslate?tl=en-us&u=http%3A%2F%2Fmainichi.jp%2Fselect%2Fweathernews%2Fnews%2F20110530ddm041040141000c.html

  • do you think they will move the camera back to show the plant or is it 'watch-the-breakwater- 24/7
    by elainekirk 5/30/2011 1:35:09 PM

  • @elainekirk Wow, that's a big switch for TEPCO, live cam! Will be interesting to have "2" of them to monitor, must go borrow more computers, lol
    by deb 5/30/2011 1:42:03 PM

  • @deb yeah lets hope they reposition the camera
    by elainekirk 5/30/2011 1:43:51 PM

  • @deb I do hope tbs don't take theirs down, this could be a strategic move by tepco to take control of what we see
    by elainekirk 5/30/2011 1:49:41 PM

  • Hi dean, Hi All, back from weekend and catching up.
    by Shadow 5/30/2011 1:50:15 PM

  • @elainekirk Well if TBS is smart they will keep it going!
    by Angie 5/30/2011 1:50:18 PM

  • @elainekirk - yes I'm worried that this is a ploy by TEPCO to control what can be seen
    by UKVal 5/30/2011 1:52:51 PM

  • Ah I see you have heard about the Tepco live cam. I hope TBS keeps theirs up. I dont trust TEPCO to not edit it or shut it down when convenient. It also won't monitor #4.

  • @deb nooooo. pout.
    by Nancy 5/30/2011 2:02:55 PM

  • Wow #4 is really full of water. I have to wonder if they are dumping excess into the turbine building over there since it is shut down.
    by Nancy 5/30/2011 2:07:18 PM

  • @nancy and why are 5 & 6 in such a state?
    by elainekirk 5/30/2011 2:11:14 PM

  • Good morning all, unfortunately I can not be lurking as much as I want and must scroll back a lot. Dean, I found this question for you that someone posted yesterday: “Vent gases through suppression pool stack” I noticed every building has a small stack at its nw corner. That’s where the corner of unit 3 was blown away, with the stack fallen away at that corner. Is this the stack from the suppression chamber? What are the big ducts that run n/s east of the reactor buildings?" Could you answer this question? I have found this vent only on the building of reactor #2.
by Peter Melzer 5/30/2011 2:11:21 PM

  • @Nancy Next press release will be the EPA issuing a notice that all Pink Salmon must pass through TSA before entering USA waters. The decision makers are that arrogant...
    by deb 5/30/2011 2:12:07 PM

  • @elainekirk I hadn't looked at 5 and 6 yet. They are still trying to claim it is just groundwater seepage. I also noticed no radiation readings on the water in 4-5-6. You can't tell me that water doesn't have some radiation in it, especially the run off in #4.
    by Nancy 5/30/2011 2:15:55 PM

  • @deb I tried that with my cat - put up a notice asking him to wipe his feet. It didn't work :(
    by UKVal 5/30/2011 2:16:14 PM

  • @deb I need to read up on migration patterns of Salmon. Between the water circulation patterns and fish movement we really need to know what is safe and what isn't. Meanwhile the EPA and USDA have absolved themselves of doing any testing.
    by Nancy 5/30/2011 2:17:48 PM

  • @UKVal It didn't work with my son's cat either, now that she's DEAD.
