  • Hi Folks, I googled T.D. Luckey, tried to watch one of his presentations. It was 66 min. long. I got through about 20 min. He seemed to do the same thing he acusses everyone else of doing. Research to prove a specific theory. He also started with a comment about what a great and benificial scieticfic achievement nuclear technology was. Very disjointed, like I said got through about 20 mins. Presentation was for bussiness group.

  • @RBeaner Do you mean by humans Homo sapiens? Please clarify.
    by es 6/1/2011 4:30:51 PM

  • and please clarify "hirad"
    by Edano 6/1/2011 4:31:27 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus I had the time to read what you said after the convo had moved on so it made it easier to understand what you meant
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 4:32:03 PM

  • @Shadow Very interesting!
    by Panserbjorne9 6/1/2011 4:32:11 PM

  • you could even say, the human race could not develop earlier because of "hirad".
    by Edano 6/1/2011 4:32:35 PM

  • @UKVal Thanks for that. For a moment back there I thought I had completely lost the plot.
by Pedro Jesus 6/1/2011 4:32:57 PM

  • Later all. TAKE CARE. Off to work :(
    by Shadow 6/1/2011 4:33:21 PM

  • this would be more correct. a high organized and complex organism like humans needs stable surroundings to develop, especially low (better no) radiation.
    by Edano 6/1/2011 4:34:05 PM

  • @Shadow , and afterwards the audience hopped into a radium spa to finish the day! The problem with epidemiology is that often the consequences of multi-factorial processes are examined, that it is not easy to find the perfectly matching group to compare with, and that the result is purely associational. Causality needs to be established with other means. His conclusion, though original, remains
    pure conjecture.
by Peter Melzer 6/1/2011 4:35:28 PM

  • @es yes, the transition from cro-magnon through to Homo Sapiens, has been in an ever Decreasing raditation enviornment
    by RBeaner 6/1/2011 4:35:33 PM

  • @Edano Relativley HiRad enviornment means an enviornment that yields >~50-100 mSv yr
    by RBeaner 6/1/2011 4:38:23 PM

  • @RBeaner That transition itself is disputed. And it's a very short time-scale - tens of thousands of years.
    by es 6/1/2011 4:39:14 PM

  • @RBeaner : a high organized and complex organism like humans needs stable surroundings to develop, especially low (better no) radiation.
    by Edano 6/1/2011 4:39:14 PM

  • @Edano Yet, it depends on what radiation you are referring to. We do need some level of electromagnetic radiation to maintain some of our vital functions (talking about UV). And so do most of living organisms in this planet. The Linear No-Threshold Model doesn't apply there as it is a modelling for ionizing radiation only and even that model is disputed within the scientific community.
by Pedro Jesus 6/1/2011 4:39:34 PM

  • uv is not gamma ray.
    by Edano 6/1/2011 4:40:26 PM

  • we do not need any radiation in our physiology.
    by Edano 6/1/2011 4:41:14 PM

  • @Edano Of course not, different types of radiation.
by Pedro Jesus 6/1/2011 4:41:29 PM

  • uv light is NOT radiation. or do you want to say that light is radiation ?
    by Edano 6/1/2011 4:42:16 PM

  • @Edano There has Never been a time that we were exposed to no radiation. I think you are mis interpreting this discussion. Go back an hour and re-read... Nobody said radiation was good for us today.
    by RBeaner 6/1/2011 4:42:20 PM

  • on a different subject -I think there's steam rising above#4 on the TEPCO cam & I just saw a curious flash of light above 3.
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 4:42:41 PM

  • @Edano Not in the short and medium term... but we can't make any statements about the long (over millions of years of evolution) scale. And this is disregarding medical applications of ionizing radiation. In some very specific and dramatic situations it can actually extend one's life given the right circumstances. UV IS radiation of the electromagnetic type. And it's not considered light. Light is a very short range of the whole EMR spectrum.
by Pedro Jesus 6/1/2011 4:46:57 PM

  • @Edano You are a very litteral kind of guy, and that is great. I think you need to look to the beginning of the discussion (~1hr). and then comment You did earlier admit you cme in the middle? Yes?
    by RBeaner 6/1/2011 4:47:11 PM

  • Radiation and radioactivity are too different things. Radioactivity is only a part of the whole radiation group.
by Pedro Jesus 6/1/2011 4:49:42 PM

  • Good evening all any new developments?
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 4:50:00 PM

  • ha, T.D. Luckey is Ph.D., i wonder what he has to do with "Association of American Physicians and Surgeons"
    by Edano 6/1/2011 4:50:02 PM

  • they say "radiation scientist T.D. Luckey", but he is just a philisopher. www.prnewswire.com www.jpands.org so far to the credibility of his medical statements.

  • Japan: Land of the rising silence
While the reason for my visit was to see my aging mother, I arrived with much trepidation— largely driven by what I didn’t know. I had no real feel for the magnitude of impact the recent disaster must have had on the country and its people. Everything I learned about what happened on March 11th — and what I deduced about it — seemed almost theoretical.

  • re TEPCO cam - I also can't make out what's going on on the wall of #2 facing the cam....
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 4:55:49 PM

  • @Edano I think the guy is an Id 10 T, but that was the base point of the discusion, not the end point.
    by RBeaner 6/1/2011 4:55:53 PM

  • it could be smoke from a low building or the way the light catches it?
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 4:56:56 PM

  • @edano good find we need to check a few more of these 'experts'
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 4:57:46 PM

  • @panser great catchprase but sad that it has had to be adopted
    "Land of the Rising Silence"
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 5:00:27 PM

  • @elainekirk : i hate it when people are called "experts" or "scientists" or "authority" or "specialist". why do they hide the real profession ?
    by Edano 6/1/2011 5:00:54 PM

  • I think it may be smoke -top of nearest stack is becoming hazy
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 5:02:18 PM

  • I found an interesting study on the ROLE OF BWR SECONDARY CONTAINMENTS IN SEVERE ACCIDENT MITIGATION: www.sumofallfears.com
by Peter Melzer 6/1/2011 5:03:02 PM

  • @Edano @Edano I see that all the time for political means. Some group will cite a study to back up their political agenda. When you go investigate the author of the paper or study etc. you frequently find someone who is not even experienced in the field. Or the "Dr." switcheroo. Where they take someone that is a "dr" in something unrelated or some other way to make them sound qualified when they are not.
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 5:03:07 PM

  • @UKVal on what cam?
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 5:04:07 PM

  • @Nancy TEPCO
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 5:04:54 PM

  • @UKVal : is there really any movement ? :)
by Edano edited by Edano 6/1/2011 5:06:04 PM

  • @Edano to start with I thought it was shadow, but occasionally something seems to obscure the top half of the nearest stack - I may be wrong as the pic is very jerky
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 5:08:06 PM

  • @UKVal : i saw steam at #4 but could be shadow as well.
    by Edano 6/1/2011 5:09:50 PM

  • Did we know that the HARDENED VENT system may release unscrubbed matter: www.beyondnuclear.org

by Peter Melzer via Beyondnuclear.org 6/1/2011 5:10:06 PM

  • @Edano yes I think I see steam occasionally from 4 -but could be wrong as it seems 'misty' everywhere
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 5:10:38 PM

  • @Peter Melzer : very interesting findings. the secondary containment is not designed to hold back corium. that's what i suspected.
