  • if smoke you'd expect it to move around more. also curious are occasional flashes above the line of the buildings- though could be a cam artifact. The 1st 1 I saw was very different though
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 5:13:29 PM

  • @UKVal : what is the 5th building behind #4 ? it cannot be the common pool.
    by Edano 6/1/2011 5:14:15 PM

  • @UKVal : i thought these are flashing lights for planes or boats. don't know what they are called exactly.
    by Edano 6/1/2011 5:15:51 PM

  • @Edano There is a buiding before the common SFP. It's not labelled on the map -but it has major powerlines

  • @Edano but some appear in sky. The 1st 1 saw was a tiny pinprick -very bright, above roof of 3, it resloved into a moving pinprick of 4 spots appearing 1 at a time forming an arc

  • Interesting assessment of the various risk-assessment models (ICRP and ECRR) versus the Japanese government's purported risk-policy wrt the Fukushima disaster www.e22.com The implication is that the Japanese govt is inventing a new risk-assessment policy (ie, total BS). I'm not endorsing this graph as it is not supported and I can't find an explanatory webpage for it, just ran into it during an image search.

  • Check this out, the graphics at the same site www.e22.com indicate it's some sophisticated analysis of internal-emitter hazards, but so much is in Japanese, including the graphics that I can't translate with google.

  • well whether there is smoke visible in fornt of 2 or not -hard to decide but it's not changing shape -there was very definite steam just now above it
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 5:24:20 PM

  • @Ian : they really make preparations for a long-term disaster .....

  • Has the TBS cam been working or is it shut off?
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 5:25:44 PM

  • @Ian I have noticed a lot of official 'information' leaflets being spawned I think they are no longer feigning concern it has become a case of fact -v- PRBS
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 5:28:01 PM

  • @Nancy I think it's still working but pic obscured by cloud

  • brandnew : WHO Connects Cellphones With Cancer Risk www.technewsworld.com ooopsi they have no rumor filter it seems
    by Edano 6/1/2011 5:45:00 PM

  • @edano cell phones are extremely dangerous but there is a solution - don't try to hold a phone whilst driving a car
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 5:51:44 PM

  • @Edano sounds like the WHO needs to be reduced to a PR office of the telecommunications industry as they've been wrt the nuclear industry via the WHO's formal subordination to the IAEA.
    by Ian 6/1/2011 5:53:21 PM

  • @elainekirk : LOL. you speak tepco speak meanwhile. :)
    by Edano 6/1/2011 5:53:23 PM

  • @Ian Curious that they display number of people affected on a grid of 4x17=68. Has anyone seen this before in Japanese reporting of statistics?
    by jt 6/1/2011 5:54:22 PM

  • @Ian : the tele industry definitely needs tepco's rumor filters.
    by Edano 6/1/2011 5:54:51 PM

  • @Ian : seriously ? "the WHO's formal subordination to the IAEA" ?
    by Edano 6/1/2011 5:56:08 PM

  • @Edano I had seen that earlier today on Portuguese news. They reclassified cellphone radiation to level 2b, meaning "possibly carcinogenic". It's old news (the association of cellphone use with cancer) but it's a good sign that they haven't forgotten the subject. In Portugal our health agency advises people not to use cell phones more than 30 minutes per day and children to use sms instead of making phone calls.
by Pedro Jesus 6/1/2011 5:56:19 PM

  • @Edano The only problem with going back to smoke signals and drums, is it requires burning things and killing lots of dear. You can have my cell phone when you pry it from my cold dead handa!
    by RBeaner 6/1/2011 5:57:42 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus a friend of mine was operated on brain cancer and he is convinced that it developed due to cellphone use.
    by Edano 6/1/2011 5:58:38 PM

  • i refuse cellphones for other reasons. but a lot of people have no alternative (wire telephones).
    by Edano 6/1/2011 6:00:15 PM

  • @Edano, about the WHO's subordination to the IAEA: www.youtube.com
    by Ian 6/1/2011 6:00:24 PM

  • @Edano There are thousands of such cases around the world. I used to develop headaches after making phone calls of over one hour. I didn't have the same symptoms after I switched to south Korean brands such as Samsung and LG. These release far less radiation than Nokia and Motorolla, for example.
by Pedro Jesus 6/1/2011 6:00:43 PM

  • @Edano well no one can argue with the personal appeal, can they... No wait, 33% of the world population dies of cancer, sorry it had to be him/her.
    by RBeaner 6/1/2011 6:00:51 PM

  • 4 is def steaming -preceded by another flash - although that one was more like lightening
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 6:01:38 PM

  • @Ian : ah, you mean the chernobyl case. i took your word "formal" too serious. :)
    by Edano 6/1/2011 6:05:25 PM

  • by Edano 6/1/2011 6:10:17 PM

  • I avoid talking on mine because I can never hear 25% of the conversation, doesn't matter what brand of phone it is. But isn't the current solution a bluetooth ear gizmo? So you can look like your schizophrenic yelling at your invisible friend while walking down the street.
