  • Recent readings taken roughly 19 miles out to sea from the Fukushima nuclear power facility in Japan have revealed radioisotope levels ten times higher than those measured in the Baltic and Black Seas after the massive Chernobyl disaster. Because Fukushima is much closer to water than the Chernobyl plant is, the ongoing fallout there is shaping up to be far worse than Chernobyl, at least as far as the world's oceans are concerned, and time will tell just how devastating this massive disaster will be on the entire world as radiation continues to circulate around the globe. www.naturalnews.com

  • @Edano Just a observation on the paint on one side.. if bld #1 is as the evelv. BP shows the two vents shown on the west side, just below the frame line... would be from the IC condensers.. Its a closed loop, so should be Rad free.. but that would be based on Not blowing the system and building up... so maybe that side of the building has more residule Radiation Particles or dust on it!!! thats the only thing I could come up with...

  • @Majj did the caption you spoke with have any thing of interest to say about the ballast water?
    by fitter 6/11/2011 7:02:16 PM

  • @fitter yes I will get it . just a minute...
    by Majj 6/11/2011 7:10:52 PM

  • @fitter ...[08-Jun-11 11:53:30 PM] SAD TO SAY BUT ANSWER IS MOST OF THE TIME A BIG YES. I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR CONTAINER SHIPS AND WE TRY OUR BEST NOT TO DO BALLAST OPS IN A PORT. BUT SOMETIMES WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO TAKE WATER ON ANYWAYS. AND THEN THESE TANKS HAVE TO BE GAUGED PERIODICALLY AS WELL. SOMETIMES EVEN ENTER TO INSPECT VALVES ,GAUGES ETC. ALL DEPENDS ON AGE OF VESSEL. NOW MOST BULKERS AND TANKERS MAYBE AN OLDER AGE FLEET. AS FOR TAKING WATER TO ANOTHER PORT. AMERICA HAS STRICT RULES ON KEEPING BALLAST RECORD LOG AND WE DO WHAT IS CALLED A COMPLETE DEEP SEA BALLAST WATER EXCHANGE TO EMPTY OUT ANY BACTERIA OR OTHER LIFE FORM WE MAYBE CARRYING FROM ANOTHER PORT. BY RELOADING DEEP SEA WATER WE CAN BE CLEAR TO ENTER AMERICAN PORT WITHOUT ANY HARRASSMENT SINCE ALL OUR WATER HAS BEEN EXCHANGED AND WE ARE ONLY CARRYING DEEP SEA WATER. PENDING THIS NOTION OFCOURSE THEN SHIPS CAN CONTAMINATE THE BIG DEEP BLUE OCEAN AS WELL. BUT CONTAMINATING CREW AND CARGO IS HARDER TO DETERMINE. DEPENDING OFCOURSE MANY FACTORS THAT YOUR GROUP HAVE TO CONSIDER. HOPE THIS HELPS. lh4.googleusercontent.com

  • A group of activists this week began an effort to raise public awareness about the area within a 10-mile radius of Vermont Yankee
    – the plant’s official Emergency Planning Zone – in the lead-up to two politically charged events later this month.
Early Tuesday morning, Jito Coleman and around 20 other volunteers placed signs reading “Vermont Yankee Evacuation Zone” along main roadways at the point where they crossed into the Emergency Planning Zone — 10 miles from Vermont Yankee.
Coleman said the nuclear meltdown of four nuclear reactors at the Daiichi Fukushima plant in Japan that occurred in the aftermath of an earthquake and tsunami in March demonstrated the vulnerability of the nuclear systems and the potential impacts of nuclear power plant emissions on surrounding communities. Residents within 20 kilometers of the Daichii plant were given $16,000 each and told not to return for six to nine months.
“We wanted to alert people in Vermont, [New Hampshire, and Massachusetts], well maybe this could happen to us,” said Coleman.

  • @you The big problem I see is that all the Bulk-carrier ships living Brazil to Japan full of Ore are returning whiff Contaminate water. If they are trowing it of in the harbor or 30 miles out is the same. The Brazilian current will bring all to the coast . All the Petrol Ships living Japan are "empty" of cargo and full of ' Ballast water" and go direct to the small Persian Gulf......

  • @Majj what you are explaining very well, is what I thought about the shipping industrie, but was not sure.... looks like the Sea water is going to get transported all around the world eventualy, DO they look for radiation in the ballast water
    by fitter 6/11/2011 7:32:19 PM

  • @elainekirk I would be pretty sure Tepco did not devise the ballast water standards used by the industrie for a long time... but I do suppose the negitive outcome for the world is that it is going to get transported further than most of use would like...

  • @fitter All the law I find ,was for biologic control. nothing on paper on radiation. In India the suspect the Ballast water but have to let the ship go, they had no ways of testing it... www.outlookindia.com

  • @Majj thanks for all the info on the subject, it has been very interesting... I had read that several ship were denied port and sent back or put in quarintine... but I had assumed it was from the cargo containers,,,, never gave a thought about it possibly being in the ballast water...
    by fitter 6/11/2011 7:39:57 PM

  • I have a Google news Alert on this and I trying to contact the Seaman's Brazilian Union. They can have interest in the subject because of risk for the ships crew. That i believe "has no IMMEDIATE significant risk for the health".......
    by Majj 6/11/2011 7:41:26 PM

  • @Majj wonder how or if they can decontamiate the holding tanks, if they found high radiation.... is the crew exposed to ballast water much

  • Worried inventor hangs himself over nuclear fears
AN INVENTOR who was concerned about the danger of nuclear energy took his own life on the day explosions started at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant.
Henry John Brooks, known as Harry, was so worried about nuclear power that he tried to create an alternative source of energy, Bolton Coroners’ Court heard.

Mr Brooks, aged 60, gave up work five years ago due to ill health and sold his house in Lena Street, Halliwell.
He used the proceeds to set up his business Broat Ltd, rent a unit at Bolton Enterprise Centre, in Washington Street, Deane, and get to work inventing a perpetual motion energy generator.

His sister, Miriam Smethurst, told the inquest: “From a long time ago, when nuclear power was first introduced, he didn’t like the power stations.

    He was so against it.

“That was why he was trying to save the world with the invention.

He thought the nuclear problem would lead to the end of the world.”

  • Animal Lovers Raid Fukushima to Save Radioactive Dogs
There may be many lost animals of Fukushima, but you can strike two off that list: daring civilians spotted two pooches on a Fukushima livestream, then slipped behind nuclear lines to rescue the "atomic dogs." This, my friends, is heroism.

The pooch raiders, part of the Hachiko Coalition of Japanese animal welfare enthusiasts, infiltrated the evacuation dead zone (and the perimeter of the plant itself) in search of two dogs they caught on the plant's live webcam, roaming without food, care, or protection from constant radiation.

According to the Hachiko crew (itself named after a beloved Japanese dog, legendary in the annals of canine history), these dogs were not only a tragic sight, but posed a threat to humans—what happened if they got dosed up on radiation and then wandered back to civilization? TEPCO and the Japanese government have been letting critters roam free this entire time, despite repeated calls for a thorough animal removal plan.

So they did it themselves. Donning hazmat suits, the volunteers drove to the plant, found the dogs, and sped out of there to a nearby veterinary hospital, where the two dogs were decontaminated and treated for their radiation exposure. The furry couple received two and three μSv of radiation respectively, which is low for humans, but for dogs—we're not sure. We'll keep track of the atomic duo for you, but for now, they appear to be happy, healthy and in (non-radioactive) hands.
This is probably the single happiest story to come out of Fukushima, so go ahead and soak it up.

  • A series of anti-nuclear demonstrations were held across Japan on Saturday. The rallies coincided with the 3 month anniversary of the March 11th earthquake and tsunami that resulted in the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

About 2,400 protesters took part in a rally in central Tokyo. Gathering in Minato Ward, they called for the closure of nuclear power plants and a change in the government's energy policies.

Well same as the last rallies the media report on just 1 of the many rallies to downplay them. Maybe next time they should all rally in one place
