  • @elainekirk Ooh the one in the back on the right?
    by lillymunster 6/11/2011 11:03:43 PM

  • @quaker That story made me wonder too, but unless nuclear industry infiltration of education is beyond even the paranoid, I can't really imagine what they would have to gain by teaching students how to lie in official reports rather than using this RARE opportunity to teach them this scale of testing.

  • @nancy yes

  • @radioguy That blog has been brought up numerous places online and frequently the info posted has been debunked. Gotta love the "shinigami" winds like they are trying to sound all technical. Someone watches way too much anime.

  • @quaker So I can't keep up with all the conspiracy theories. Is Berkeley an accurate source or a minion of the Illuminati this week?
    by lillymunster 6/11/2011 11:09:33 PM

  • @Elaine, do you remember the location of those tsunami images? I was thinking it was at 5-6 but the multiple junctions into the tower make me wonder if that is by the communal spent fuel pool building?
    by lillymunster 6/11/2011 11:16:43 PM

  • some of the extreme blogs are actually presented as middle of the road, I am your friend, type of media and it is very easy to forget to question what you are reading, and it not only takes a while to start recognising them - it takes forever to keep up with their revamps every few weeks as visitor stats fall and they need to scoop up a fresh load ot readers to attract the advertisers

  • Hi all! Been away for 24 hrs...forgive me if this is redundant! TEPCO forced to review reactor 4 cooling plan
The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has been forced to reconsider its plan to cool the spent fuel storage pool of the No.4 reactor.

Water injection from a special vehicle has not been intense enough to cool the water in the pool, allowing the temperature to remain at more than 80 degrees Celsius.

Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, aims to install a circulatory cooling system that will pump water out of the pool and return it there as coolant. The utility originally hoped to put the system in place next month.

On Friday, workers entered the 4th floor of the No.4 reactor building where the pool is located for the first time since the nuclear disaster took place.

They found a large hole in a wall created by the March 15th explosion. They also discovered that a nearby pipe necessary for the cooling system had been mangled. www3.nhk.or.jp

  • @nancy I will go back to the tepco pics see if they said
    by elainekirk 6/11/2011 11:19:52 PM

  • OMG @lm so they wasted all that time without checking the piping !! hang on why that piping why not replace? maybe the answer to that is that the piping is an integral part of the pool, meaning that the pool...........
    by elainekirk 6/11/2011 11:21:34 PM

  • @Elaine I wish I could say that I'm surprised!

  • this explains the steamshow 80°
    by Edano 6/11/2011 11:25:10 PM

  • @lillymunster, I don't know. How much did nuclear engineering enrollments drop off after 3mile island? But that need not be the reason, it is an unprecedented situation; they may just not know how to analyze it well. That doesn't require conspiracy, in fact its normal for engineers
    by quaker 6/11/2011 11:25:59 PM

  • @quaker : is quaker = fitter ?
    by Edano 6/11/2011 11:27:01 PM

  • @LM I would hope since they can actually get up there to inspect they might be able to replace piping. But since the photos of inside 4 from today were over on the south end maybe they were intending on using that water treatment equipment to cool the pool. With all the damage at 4 they should have expected damaged equipment. They sound worried about keeping the SFP under control and we have seen lots of steam out of it. I was under the impression these new cooling plans involved external equipment. Maybe they were going to just patch into lines that are now toast?
    by lillymunster 6/11/2011 11:27:23 PM

  • @quaker What is normal for engineers?
    by lillymunster 6/11/2011 11:27:50 PM

  • @lillymunster : trial and error.
    by Edano 6/11/2011 11:28:26 PM

  • @Lilly I'm thinking the same thing...I assumed it would be an external equipment solution as well...and you're right..if they were counting on using the damaged equipment their options must be severely limited..definitely worrisome!
    by LM 6/11/2011 11:32:25 PM

  • @Edano did you caught my post on the paint on bld #1, what is your opioin if you seen it?
    by fitter 6/11/2011 11:32:57 PM

  • @lillymunster, human calculators that do a great job on well posed problems, but stumble when having to deal with the unknown. Sorta like the whole Fukushima thing
    by quaker 6/11/2011 11:33:05 PM

  • @LM More than likely they have several plans in play, but did need to see what they were working with... This is the first I have hear that they have been up on
    four
    by fitter 6/11/2011 11:34:44 PM

  • @fitter I'm sure they do.....but I'm beginning to think they have leaks coupled with a much hotter and more tightly packed pool. A combo of factors that is throwing in a big monkey wrench. The fact that the building is unstable is also making the situation different for 4...
    by LM 6/11/2011 11:40:29 PM

  • @LM I would suspect that they have several plans for all buildings, plus are working on redundecy, as the after shock can knock anything that is working off line..
    by fitter 6/11/2011 11:43:39 PM

  • @all...I almost wish that the stack near 1 would suddenly disappear so that I can see 3 better on the Tepco cam..I'm pretty sure there's some darker smoke coming out of 3, but it's difficult to be certain.
    by LM 6/11/2011 11:44:04 PM

  • @LM I actually thought the pipe held up rather well. They are usually design to blow from the inside out, not the other way around
    by fitter 6/11/2011 11:44:37 PM

  • @LM Agree that stack is not doing much except blocking a good view
    by fitter 6/11/2011 11:45:17 PM

  • @fitter I'm sure you're right...hopefully one of them will work.
    by LM 6/11/2011 11:45:28 PM

  • @LM You would be surprised how fast they can repair/or replace that pipe... valves can be a longer lead time.. they may have to be shipped in
    by fitter 6/11/2011 11:46:39 PM

  • @nancy the tsunami pics are from
"Place: North side of Radiation Waste Treatment Facility taken from 4th floor"
    which tower is there?
    by elainekirk 6/11/2011 11:50:53 PM

  • @elainekirk That would be the 4 pipe tower just past #4 by the common fuel pool.
    by lillymunster 6/11/2011 11:57:44 PM

@nancy back to the pics then and if you look the area to the righ side tower on ground there is sludge appears to be being forced up , the pressure of the water would have been greater underground and it is obviously finding its way up from somewhere to the right and if that tower is close to 4 and you look at this pic of #4 there is a fault in the ground and they have used steel sheeting to level it for the pump truck, see the two taks at the end how the top one has twisted I think that is why they are propping 4 up because the actual ground is at an angle dunno what others think?

    by elainekirk via Tepco.co.jp 6/12/2011 12:05:43 AM

  • @quaker after seeing the inside pics I think it fared pretty well, except the reactors?
    by fitter 6/12/2011 12:06:03 AM

  • @elainekirk I couldn't get the image to open via the link. When you refer to tower are you talking the reactor building? The watering crane? The tower in the other picture?
    by lillymunster 6/12/2011 12:08:21 AM

  • @elainekirk are you talking about pipe? what was the question, maybe I can help
    by fitter 6/12/2011 12:30:37 AM

  • @quaker we try to keep this page at this monent in time fuku relevant , that doesnt mean your posts are not important just that the debate would be better suited to the organise page client.scribblelive.com
    by elainekirk 6/12/2011 12:32:00 AM

  • @elainekirk I can't see in the small image to tell what is going on. I tried to get a larger version via the TEPCO link and it says the image is corrupted or won't load. I don't have this image in my stockpile. So where are you seeing the sludge and ground oddities, next to R4 or by something else? There are a couple of people who determined the ground has moved significantly based on the data after the quake.
