    by elainekirk 6/11/2011 12:56:46 AM

  • @lillymunster I know what it says, but I also know what locals say about that event...

  • ...should add - just re-read it after you posted!
    by pj 6/11/2011 12:58:34 AM

  • hi elaine
    by dean 6/11/2011 12:58:37 AM

  • @marierich : yes, it seems periodic, but what can you do, when tepco says : "instrument failure" ? there are very funny temp readings of -150°C and pressures below 0, which both is not possible .....
by Edano edited by Edano 6/11/2011 12:58:53 AM

  • Oh, and had forgotten the detail about the lighter screw...who knew such a little thing could be so important in determining if the thing had gone prompt critical?!?
    by pj 6/11/2011 12:59:12 AM

  • @lilly.. I know about the SL-1
    by dean 6/11/2011 12:59:21 AM

  • @lillymunster almost, they were moving it by hand! You had to lift it up a bit and then screw it into the control actuator this was SOP, but at the time of the accident the rod were stuck so they put some muscle into it and yanked hard.... the rest is history
    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 12:59:26 AM

  • @Edano Weird...
    by marierich 6/11/2011 12:59:35 AM

  • @dean Raw video of todays steamshow is uploaded, see sticky link above
    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 1:00:57 AM

  • awwww.. pj.. wish you could
    by dean 6/11/2011 1:01:19 AM

  • some of my working colleagues worked at the SL-1
    by dean 6/11/2011 1:01:50 AM

  • will look at it WolfDK ty
    by dean 6/11/2011 1:02:07 AM

  • @dean You are welcome
    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 1:02:40 AM

  • @dean The lore I had heard involved, essentially, suicide by nuke. Had you ever heard that?
    by pj 6/11/2011 1:02:58 AM

  • @dean Wow how is the SL-1 site today ? anything lest at all ? know they buried most of it.. What about radiation readings there nowadays ?
    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 1:04:50 AM

  • lest = leaf
    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 1:05:01 AM

  • there have always been those stories associated with it pj although there can't be conclusive proof.. only stories of co workers etc
    by dean 6/11/2011 1:05:12 AM

  • @elainekirk Holy moly! That is a lot of dust. Would the particulate from a volcano be bigger or smaller than what we're talking about from Fuku?
    by pj 6/11/2011 1:05:16 AM

  • Aiee lest = left
    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 1:05:17 AM

  • talking about radioactive/particles dust getting into houses I believe it does and that saying keep doors and windows shut is no protection - this is a well sealed house in Iceland during the recent eruption

    by elainekirk 6/11/2011 1:05:42 AM

  • it's been D & D'd long ago Wolf
    by dean 6/11/2011 1:05:50 AM

  • @dean Yup, that's what I had heard. The wiki article makes no mention of it, but when someone in the industry shares it with you....makes you go hmmm.
    by pj 6/11/2011 1:05:58 AM

  • @pj I would say much larger particles from volcano but what do others think?
    by elainekirk 6/11/2011 1:06:34 AM

  • one point of interest,, the damage done by that prompt critical accident was only from a 200 kw electric powered reactor
    by dean 6/11/2011 1:08:01 AM

  • @elainekirk I would say smaller, also much greater density in a eruption cloud
    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 1:08:07 AM

  • so, imagine what a 1000 megawatt reactor would do
    by dean 6/11/2011 1:08:30 AM

  • @dean

    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 1:09:35 AM

  • @dean How big was the fuel load in SL-1 ?
    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 1:10:34 AM

  • @dean Wow, that is a terrifying thought.
    by pj 6/11/2011 1:10:35 AM

  • Stills from today's steam and lights. Let me know if people want it put on the group page. Wasn't sure if it should get posted. www.houseoffoust.com
    by lillymunster 6/11/2011 1:10:42 AM

  • just a sec
    by dean 6/11/2011 1:11:12 AM

  • @lillymunster Are those stills grabbed from the video i uploaded ?
    by WolfDK 6/11/2011 1:13:31 AM

  • @WolfDK I don't know why, but I can't get the video to load. I tried three times - really wanted to see it!
    by pj 6/11/2011 1:14:25 AM

  • @nancy if there is room I for one would like it there for reference :)
    by elainekirk 6/11/2011 1:14:33 AM

  • @WolfDK Nope have not gotten to yours yet, these were small images from Lucaswhitefieldhixon.
    by lillymunster 6/11/2011 1:14:58 AM
