#Radioactive Strontium from Groundwater at Fukushima I Nuke Plant for the First Time

Radioactive strontium (strontium-89 and -90) was detected from the sub-drain pits at the Reactor 1 turbine building and the Reactor 2 turbine building. The samples were taken on May 18.

It is the first time that radioactive strontium was detected from the groundwater at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant.

High concentration of radioactive strontium found at Fukushima plant
    TOKYO, June 12, Kyodo
Radioactive strontium up to 240 times the legal concentration limit has been detected in seawater samples collected near an intake at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Sunday.

The utility known as TEPCO said the substance was also found in groundwater near the plant's Nos. 1 and 2 reactors. The government's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said it is the first time that the substance has been found in groundwater.

The agency said it is necessary to carefully monitor the possible effects of the strontium on fishery products near the plant.

  • @lillymunster Love the kitty tape. :) @all I read about 6,000 Bq/kg of Cesium-137 found in mushrooms from Bulgaria — Initially, it was thought the mushrooms have been irradiated d by the Fukushima NPP disaster
But they think it’s from Chernobyl. In Norway in 2000 -2007, it was still up to 14000 bq/kg with cesium found in mushrooms. Contaminated from Chernobyl.

Radiation Levels In Reactor One Spike At 261 Sv Per Hour - Indications of Ongoing Criticality
Posted by Lucas Whitefield Hixson at 10:15 AM The radiation levels in Reactor 1 Drywell has spiked to a new record high 261 Sv/hr. This is a sign of pretty consistent criticality in the reactor. The corium has breached the core containment, and is releasing radiation without TEPCO acknowledging the implications of this constant criticality. The pressure level in Reactor 1 has dropped to atmospheric levels, indicating the breach in containment.

The rising levels of radiation in the drywell also indicate that the efforts to control the fuel inside the reactor from going critical is becoming unmanageable. The radiation is emanating from the reactor, and levels around the Number 1 Building are rising instead of gradually decreasing, another indicator of ongoing criticality. news.lucaswhitefieldhixson.com

Detection of groundwater is the first time seems to have been released in the accident.

From seawater near the intake, has been found 240 times the rise in strontium concentration limits set by the country's largest, NISA has seen the impact of high levels of contaminated water leaked into the sea. • Japan’s Decline as a Robotics Superpower: Lessons From Fukushima. Many Japanese were disappointed that no Japanese-designed and -produced robot was used at the Fukushima nuclear accident site. Japan’s long pre-eminent place in the industrial robot market has been eroded by emerging economies, while personal assistance robots, seen as the next market for Japanese robotics, have yet to bridge the risky gap between research and commercialization. Then, what is necessary for the resurrection of Japan as a Robotics Superpower?
