  • Weird it looked like it was in front of the exhaust tower and now looks like it is behind 1 by the docks again. Must have been a camera oddity or something.

  • Checked my screen shot and it was in front of the tower. The crane is magic :-)

  • Cooper NPP (the other one on the Missouri) is running at 100% and they have no intention of shutting down unless it hits 45.5 feet. They are using sandbags and barriers also. Cooper is a GE BWR Mark 1 type like Fuku.

    www.kbia.org
I see some concerns in their flood plan. They have the corps as having the river crest today at 40 feet. The corps is predicting more flooding north of Cooper and just started releasing the max possible at Gavins Point Dam and say the releases are not near over. So they have much more coming.

  • That paper mentions flooding that was in the lower rooms, turbine building, was getting at electrical systems and the RCIC systems. "water levels rising inside the reactor building impinged on electrical cables and
equipment such as the Reactor Core Isolation Cooling (RCIC) pump room causing the
circuitry to ground out. “This event demonstrates that flooding problems and degradation
of equipment may be caused by water inleakage even though flood waters are not above
grade elevations,” the information notice indicated. The RCIC system is critical to plant
safety in the event of loss of offsite power and a condition known as “Station Blackout.”"

  • @Lilly You'd think they'd learn... the no..this can't happen to us approach..is ridiculous!
    by LM 6/15/2011 2:21:21 AM

  • @LM Looking for the projected crest by Cooper. That is just insane in light of what happened at Fuku and that they have flooded the buildings and safety systems before in 1993 and they are just going to keep on running like nothing is wrong...

  • Contaminated tea found at 5 more plants
Radioactive cesium exceeding Japan's legal limit has again been detected in processed tea from Shizuoka City, more than 300 kilometers from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Shizuoka Prefecture said on Tuesday that it detected about 580 to 650 becquerels of radioactive cesium per kilogram in the processed tea from 5 out of 20 factories in Shizuoka City. The legal limit is 500 becquerels.

Prefectural officials have asked the 5 plants to refrain from shipping their products and to conduct voluntary recalls. Shizuoka Prefecture is one of Japan's leading tea-producing areas.

The tests were conducted after cesium beyond the legal limit was found last week in tea from Shizuoka City for the first time since the accident at the Fukushima nuclear plant.

  • @Lilly Even worse is the factor that flooding around the plant will destroy any chances of evacuation if the plant ends up compromised...unlike tsunami, the water takes a while to recede!

  • TEPCO shares surge 28% in Tokyo morning trade
    (AFP) – 29 minutes ago
TOKYO — Shares in Tokyo Electric Power Co. surged 28.11 percent in Tokyo trade Wednesday, with sentiment buoyed after the Japanese government put forward a support bill Tuesday.
The bill to ensure TEPCO can meet what is expected to be massive compensation over the accident at its stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant still needs to be approved by parliament.
Dealers said the reinstatement of tougher margin rules by the Tokyo Stock Exchange, effective Tuesday, is also seen as share-price supportive in that it deters short sellers. TEPCO shares rose 70 yen to 319. "Shares are reacting bullishly as fears of delisting are dissipating," Kenichi Hirano, operating officer at Tachibana Securities, told Dow Jones Newswires. www.google.com
