  • smoss 5:15 PM - The video says they have successfully recovered the device that fell into the core and expect to have it up and running by the fall of this year.
    by dh 6/24/2011 10:33:44 PM

  • in most cases with REACTOR POWER LEVEL if the power level goes up the safety margins go down and, if a condition exists which challenges the safety margin at one operating power,, the power can be lowered to increase the safety margin back to acceptable levels.. I hope this makes sense
    by dean 6/24/2011 10:34:08 PM

  • and,, even at lower power levels there still exists the need to protect the fuel, decay heat removal still needed etc.,
    by dean 6/24/2011 10:35:26 PM

  • @dh Thanks!

  • Elaine: Back to last night's jellyfish. Perhaps seacreatures are taking things into their own tenticles. Sacraficial hordes to reduce the power output of the NPP. They have heard dean's idea. You yuk up our home, we yuk up yours.
    by dh 6/24/2011 10:44:01 PM

  • @dean It makes sense, but 25% would be afer than 70%, so I was wondering where the 70% came from?
    by RBeaner 6/24/2011 10:44:44 PM

  • @RBeaner,,, the actual percentage would have to be like a result of assuming initial power levels then run the analysis and see what the results would be, another way i've seen is lets say.. a protective parameter would be lowered, like outlet temp,, then they would have to lower power to get that temp..
    by dean 6/24/2011 10:48:54 PM

  • @dh oh yes jellyfish are the strangest of creatures I wonder how they handle radioactive water
by Elaine Kirk 6/24/2011 10:49:21 PM

  • will return..ty RBeaner more discussion on it when I get back.. PEACE out
    by dean 6/24/2011 10:49:52 PM

  • @all This is really becoming too moderated. I feel that free discusion is being muted.. And I don't even understsnd why? To me, the more regular, i.e. informed commenters, the better.

  • OPINION: Nuclear power requires perfection
    By Jonathan Schell

    by LM 6/25/2011 12:00:56 AM

  • "Ordinary people are not nuclear experts. But they know some things that many experts prefer to forget. They know that even in the best-run enterprises, things go awry.

The contractor takes a kickback. The operator at the control panel falls asleep. The battery runs out sooner than expected. The scientist shades his findings because he has received a grant from the industry under inspection." Excerpt from article I linked.

  • @elainekirk the yellow north-south pattern still follows the highway ! why don't they understand ?
    by Edano 6/25/2011 12:26:54 AM

  • @Edano , this may be because the standard air filters of combustion engines catch only a small part of the radioactivity and the exhaust of the driving cars drags it out along the road which may run through a valley which confines the contamination.
by Peter Melzer 6/25/2011 12:33:01 AM

  • @Edano because there is nobody whose job it is to analyse the radiation at best they will be asking weather forecasters
    by elainekirk 6/25/2011 12:34:08 AM
