  • @elainekirk @Veenie I thought the name simply info was attached or derived or joined in some way with some "consensus" (however slight) from this scribble "community". I don't like being part of propaganda, for ex this on that newspaper wwwwsonneteighteencom.blogspot.com what total crap.
    by RBeaner 6/24/2011 3:34:56 PM

  • @RBeaner Jeezz... that's what I call disinformation. They even misquote other scientists and organizations. I also noted that they claim CBS being owned by Westinghouse which is not true. CBS is owned

  • by National Amusements, a company that is associated with film and theatre.
by Pedro Jesus 6/24/2011 3:47:54 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus Alot of the "issues" listed have been debunked, I just think this agglomeration of blogs and stuff, under OUR banner, without group input (our method of peer review) is wrong. We just became hawaiindailynews, or whatever that blog was saying were all going to die because of calhoun.
    by RBeaner 6/24/2011 3:50:59 PM

  • @RBeaner Is that crap under «our» banner?
by Pedro Jesus 6/24/2011 3:53:02 PM

  • @Veenie They list several "nightmares", that have already been debunked on this scribble.
    by RBeaner 6/24/2011 3:58:44 PM

  • Is there a better way to say that innapppropriate content is on it @veenie only started this today he says in his link it needs refining so how about volunteers to help get it in shape ?? all hands on deck
    by elainekirk 6/24/2011 4:00:33 PM

  • Ok, the Article should be gone now.
Ok, to clarify this....This is automatically generated from TWITTER and FACEBOOK, so at times, when whoever post's stuff like this, it needs to be pointed out IN A POLITE manner....otherwise, i suggest, to not read it.
It is no ones intention to have post's like that listed but it is also unreasonable to read all of them or satisfy all the readers.
    by Veenie 6/24/2011 4:05:05 PM

  • @Veenie @elainekirk I quickly regretted my "crap" comment, because I referred to a quick review of some of the content as inaccurate, not the "newspaper" concept. I was just shocked to see that stuff under the simply info banner, cause some of it is simple, alarmist, page-view selling crap. No reference was intended for the effort to produce info, just the actual info..:):)
    by RBeaner 6/24/2011 4:05:06 PM

  • @RBeaner Ok gotcha.....it's all good...in the future, I hope to have people Tweet me, when stuff like this slips in there, so i can deduct it )
    by Veenie 6/24/2011 4:07:43 PM

  • @Veenie yeah, sorry for not being polite, it caught me by surprise on simply info. If this thing is automatically generated, I think it is a mistake. If ALL of them can't be read, and I'm not volunteering, and I don't suggest that on anyone else, then they shouldn't be posted associated with us.

  • @Veenie Our biggest strength, is investigating stuff, not repeating what other people say. If TEPCO announces something, we look into the accuracy of it and the probability of it being true. We do that with ALL info we discuss. We don't let random claims pass un challenged.
    by RBeaner 6/24/2011 4:09:50 PM

  • @Veenie ....1ST EDITION.......STILL WORKING ON IT !... OK... I'll shut up, LOL.. I was just very surprised by it... I still Love you:)

  • Radiation results in Fukushima City

Radiation levels in parts of Fukushima City, about 60 kilometers from the disaster-stricken nuclear plant, have been found to require further monitoring.

Responding to residents' demands for more information, Fukushima City released on Friday the results of radiation checks conducted on June 17th and 20th at more than 1,000 sites, including public facilities and roads in residential areas.

Six locations, including a park in a municipal housing complex, registered radiation levels of over 3.4 microsieverts per hour when measured one meter above ground. This exceeds the prefecture's threshold for re-checking.

Radiation of over two microsieverts per hour was recorded at 182 sites.
The city said that it re-checked the six sites on Friday, and all locations registered lower radiation.

But the city intends to restrict use of the park in the public housing complex, where radiation of 4.15 microsieverts per hour, which exceeds the central government's limit of 3.8 microsieverts for a park, was recorded 50 centimeters above the ground.

A municipal official says the city will continue monitoring and post the results on its website.

  • Tokyo officials: Radiation levels all below limit

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says radiation levels at 100 locations in Tokyo pose no health hazard, but that they are reading relatively high in some eastern areas.

Tokyo officials released on Friday the results of radiation monitoring conducted in the week up to Wednesday. The monitoring was carried out in response to public concern about contamination from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Measurements were made at 5 centimeters and one meter above the ground.

The average of the 5-centimeter readings was 0.067 microsieverts per hour. The figure for the one-meter readings was 0.061 microsieverts per hour.

The highest level was detected at an elementary school in Katsushika Ward in eastern Tokyo, where the reading for the 5-centimeter point was 0.19 microsieverts and 0.2 microsieverts for the one-meter point. Both were about triple the average.

Seven other wards near Katsushika also recorded higher-than-average radiation levels.

Tokyo Metropolitan University Associate Professor Tsuguhisa Kato says wind directions and river flows possibly caused radiation levels to rise in eastern areas.

He says residents do not need to worry too much, as the readings are still below the safety limit. He called on the authorities to continue their efforts.

The results are available on the website of the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Public Health.

  • @Veenie I apologize for the use of the 'c' word but I was not referring to the concept, I was referring to the content of that specific page that RBeaner posted. Most of it is nonsense and, the rest, outdated information (some of it outdated by a decade). But if that automated thing is posting in simplyinfo I suggest it doesn't appear for everybody to see.

  • @Pedro Jesus @RBeaner Your input is appreciated, when you find something , good for us....
BUT, as you should also realize, even your comments over the past three months have sometimes generated controversy "don't ask me what lol" OUR Twitter account is pretty much the only one, that is NOT posting fearmongling and stupid hype or undiscussed facts.........There are LOTS of people retweeting really ridiculous stuff like the Video about Calhoun, where they took Arnie Gundersons Video clip completly out of context, for a week, they all re posted it with different wording......we as the ONLY account i know, actually stated "thanks nancy" that that was B$ and she [posted FACTS which were discussed here.......So, do i BLOCK all these accounts or do i wait till they post new stuff.....you just NEVER know, who has the next scoop.......I can tell you this much,....EVERY NEWS MAINSTREAM media is far slower than the WEB, they just repackage it and make it sound nice....and even them , they have to retract.....so CROWD SOURCING applies to everything......just understand one thing, I am merley the IT guy,, that put's it together, i am nowhere near anyones knowledge level here on TECH.....it's not my strenth.....

    Archaeologists excavate ancient Egyptian boat

A group of Japanese and Egyptian archaeologists has begun excavating a 4,500 year old wooden boat found next to the Great Pyramid of Giza, near Cairo.

About 100 scholars from Japan's Waseda University and Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities began unearthing the vessel, known as the Second Sun Boat, on Thursday.

The boat was found 24 years ago in an underground chamber next to the pyramid, which was built as a tomb for the Pharaoh Khufu. The team has been working on the restoration project since 2008.

The boat is believed to have been built to carry Khufu in his journey to the afterlife. It is thought to be about 43 meters long, and it has disintegrated into about 600 pieces.

The team will excavate all the pieces by the end of the year. Restoration work is scheduled to be complete by 2015.

Sakuji Yoshimura, a Waseda University professor who is leading the project, said his team was finally able to make its first big step toward restoration. He said the group will carry out a thorough excavation.

  • @Veenie Cool, I just want to make sure that simplyinfo doesn't post that kind or any other kind of utter misinformation to the public. Otherwise I won't put my name in it. Simplyinfo was started to counter misinformation, not to support it, or at least that is my understanding of its genesis and goal.

  • @Veenie When it comes to tweeting and facebooking and all those other buttons on stories, I know nothing. But tweeting sounds alot like parroting. Parrotting things on the web is bad. Tweeting a conversation and result from this site (scribble) is good. Us retweeting some other site or persons blog or assumption without eyes and minds (ours) on it beforehand, is wrong.

  • @Edano this theory that panic is not good, when WHO announces a pandemic giving alarming figures for expected deaths etc the pandemic never happens - is this because people start taking precautions?

    Swimming beach in Zushi opens
Children play at a swimming beach in Zushi, Kanagawa Prefecture, on June 24, 2011, as it opened to swimmers the same day. It is the first swimming beach in the Kanto region, eastern Japan, to open this season amid fears about radiation and tsunami in the wake of the March earthquake and tsunami disaster and the continuing nuclear crisis in northeastern Japan. • @elainekirk nancys paper on the FACTS of calhoun and cooper is the reason I am here, I hate the BS out there on the web. Tweeting or repeating and spreading our info is good. I venture to say that anyone following this scribble is more knowledgeable of facts than 98% of the other people out there. We should be a source of researched facts, not blind repeating of anyone elses opinion. If we can't do some fact checking on it before it goes into anything but a comments section, then it shouldn't be under our banner. Just one bean s opinion, in a garden full of fruits and vegetables:)

  • so if the Japanese authorities said this radiation is dangerous we will bulk purchase dosimeters and sell them at cost to individuals and charities
    by elainekirk 6/24/2011 4:33:04 PM

  • @elainekirk It depends on the context. The latest E.coli affair generated confusion, millions of Euro of damage to the food industry affecting a lot of small agriculture production and the resulting increase on the death rate from E.coli infection because it led people to think they were safe as long as they avoided cucumber.
by Pedro Jesus 6/24/2011 4:38:28 PM

  • @rbeaner as a concept to be expored then the paper is good, if there is a way of regulating the tweets going through i.e. by updating every x hr then that is good , the ifs need exploring.
Veenie found empireavenue www.empireavenue.com and that has proved a great boost but the only way he found out was by trying it.
I am of the 'nothing ventured, nothing gained' school of thought which relies on the 'approach with caution' school to keep it in check which in turn relies on the 'what the hell' school
    by elainekirk 6/24/2011 4:39:00 PM

  • @elainekirk : your panic question is indeed interesting. i read some scientific articles about it lately, "panic reactions" are really subject of research. it is no panic reaction if people don't eat cucumbers anymore. they are free not to do it.
    by Edano 6/24/2011 4:39:34 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus i don't agree to your crude point. better damage to food industry than damage to health.
    by Edano 6/24/2011 4:40:47 PM

  • we had a famous one over salmonella in eggs many years ago Edwina Currie a government minister known for nothing else , declared all eggs unsafe and the market bottomed but the salmonella outbreak ended , it would have ended without her innaccurate information but the fact she said it created an awareness of the need for personal hygiene and brought it to a speedy conclusiomnn wheras it could have dragged on and killed more

  • @Edano I call bs on the Tokyo metropolitan govt readings, everything I have seen from individuals, crowd sourced maps, mother's organizations, the communist party have been .08 uSv and up, usually in the .10-.18 area outside of the hotspots.

    by Edano 6/24/2011 4:44:14 PM

  • @elainekirk I honestly don't understand that "share" thing. I agree with 'nothing ventured, nothing gained' school of thought which relies on the 'approach with caution", but I think we (all at this site) have some reputation for truth and facts, and I don't wish to see that squandered or diluted. To me, Any automatic repeating of opinion is bad and is to be avoided.
