  • But not to worry. There are no nukes in the turbine building. Yep, we're apparently to clutching-at-straws-to-make-it-seem-rosy time.
    by RadioGuy 6/27/2011 5:54:50 PM

  • Right. They took it off grid power yesterday after the berm broke. They eventually put it back on grid power. This morning multiple news posts mentioned the water infiltration into the turbine building. I had not heard in those mentions of them going back off the grid again. Some of the morning news stories didn't update to the "back on grid" from yesterday. So unsure if old news or a new change?

  • @RadioGuy When they made a statement that everything is fine because they have sump pumps running the sound of my head hitting my desk could be heard 3 states over.

  • I have a pile of new news articles in my inbox since this AM, hopefully they have some details. Have they mentioned where the electrical switching equipment is in relation to all of this yet or the location of the generators. They keep failing to mention things like that.
    by lillymunster 6/27/2011 5:57:13 PM

  • Nothing new in the pile of news articles, all repeats from early AM. The claim that everything is fine because sump pumps will save the day....

Anyone heard anything out of TEPCO's shareholder meeting yet?

  • Thanks PB, grabbed the dogs story. How insane!
    by lillymunster 6/27/2011 6:30:59 PM

  • @Elaine Kirk trying to get my time zones straight. I think the shareholder meeting is monday so the day should be ending in Tokyo right now, is that correct?
    by lillymunster 6/27/2011 6:31:41 PM

  • @lillymunster @Panserbjorne9 not that insane because if those dogs were tested for radiation the truth might cause problems for 'we have it under control ' Tepco

  • @lillymunster no strict llaws on 'pets' so I would say it must be that they dont want the dogs testing for radiation
by Elaine Kirk 6/27/2011 6:39:23 PM

  • @Elaine Kirk They particularly don't want those dogs tested. Imagine what radionuclides they'd find!

  • @Elaine Kirk No, they had internal radioactivity.. How much? I have no idea. But I bet they are happy and prancing with their new home!
    by RBeaner 6/27/2011 6:48:50 PM

  • @RBeaner I doubt that. Dogs wandering on the ground of Fukushima for any length of time at all testing negative for radiation is simply a fairy tale for the gullible. Simply imposssible.
    by RadioGuy 6/27/2011 6:48:51 PM

  • The dogs were given some basic testing, decontaminated by multiple baths etc. and given dosimeters. They did test their urine. Didn't hear about other testing but a vet clinic likely would not have the equipment to do much else.

  • @RadioGuy The dogs are Hot, not hot dogs "The dogs, thought to be sisters, were first seen at the plant earlier this month, three months after the nuclear accident, and were found to have absorbed significant amounts of radiation." www.theaustralian.com.au

  • @RadioGuy From what the rescue group put on their website it sounded like their contamination was fairly low and they were not suffering injuries at that time

  • @RadioGuy: No, since they wore masks...lol
    by estacion 6/27/2011 6:52:25 PM

  • So why dd TEPCO go out of their way to assert ownership? TEPCO baffles me sometimes.
    by RadioGuy 6/27/2011 6:52:48 PM

  • @RadioGuy the same reason they are getting actors blacklisted and fired for speaking out against TEPCO....
    by lillymunster 6/27/2011 6:53:32 PM

  • The only rationale that makes sense to me is that they are afraid serous testing for specific radionuclides would shoot holes in their non-criticality myths.
    by RadioGuy 6/27/2011 6:54:48 PM

  • Radioactive ash found in waste incineration plant

An operator of waste incineration plants in Tokyo says it has found a high density of radioactive materials in ash at one of its plants.

An Edogawa ward plant, which handles general household garbage, detected 9,740 becquerels of radioactive materials per kilogram of ash.

The ash was collected from a device to filter exhaust fumes.

The plant's operator, an organization jointly set up by Tokyo's 23 wards, believes that radioactive cesium built up through the incinerating process.

But it says there is no danger of the toxic substances escaping into the environment as they were trapped by the filter.

Legally, the plant can only bury ash registering 8,000 becquerels or less per kilogram.

But ash contaminated with more than 8,000 becquerels must be stored until the government determines a safe disposal method.

Following the latest findings, Tokyo consulted the central government and decided to temporarily store the contaminated ash inside the plant.

Tokyo on Monday asked the government to come up with guidelines for the ash's disposal.
