  • @dean @LM isnt it strange how the birds are all dying in that small patch
    by elainekirk 7/11/2011 10:37:51 PM

  • @Elaine Are those birds? For some reason I was thinking it was scat..Dead birds probably make more sense. Could it be that another animal is rounding them up and dropping them in one location? I know cats do that sometimes.
    by LM 7/11/2011 10:40:37 PM

  • @Dean, I think you might be correct. Will grab an image.
    by lillymunster 7/11/2011 10:41:53 PM

  • "Since Chernobyl, one thing we've learned is that you must have an ornithologist at the table," he said. "They may not know about cesium or gamma rays, but they know where birds fly."

    Do we have one? ;)

  • @RadioGuy just looking for one

  • @all Good Afternoon...Good Evening...Good Morning...Hello!
    by smoss 7/11/2011 11:06:08 PM

  • @RadioGuy guess we need to go find one. :-)
    by lillymunster 7/11/2011 11:06:37 PM

  • Off Twitter: Beef contaminated with high radiocesium (max = 3400Bq/kg) was found at Tokyo meat market. Some are likely to have been consumed already.

  • looks like workers who die are going to leave families with a battle for compensation translate.google.com
    by elainekirk 7/11/2011 11:14:54 PM

  • @elainekirk There's no reason to think every possible "You can't prove it was the exposure" argument will be used there, too. "Oh, no. He may have been irradiated, but he died of a heart attack."

I wonder how much insurance TEPCO takes out on those workers they're sending to their eventual deaths. We know how much will ever make it to the bereaved.
    by RadioGuy 7/11/2011 11:32:37 PM

  • @elainekirk I assumed there would be some sort of special exemption for such a situation where people would have some better protection. I guess this is all seen as private sector work and they are on their own.

What about all these people hired by temp agencies or small construction crews hired on that might not have work comp insurance?
    by lillymunster 7/11/2011 11:33:58 PM

  • oops... will = won't. I need to start writing simpler sentences. ;)
    by RadioGuy 7/11/2011 11:34:23 PM

  • @lillymunster You mean "A San", "B San", "C San" and all those others they have no record of having dosed?
    by RadioGuy 7/11/2011 11:35:57 PM

  • @lillymunster well that chap it seems worked for a contractor who provided toshiba with workers who worked in turn at fuku ..............................
    by elainekirk 7/11/2011 11:38:14 PM

  • @RadioGuy TEPCO conveniently dodges the damage done to workers by not hiring them directly. They need some sort of VA type coverage that will promise health ins. benefits and disability if needed. Make TEPCo and all the contractors pay into it
    by lillymunster 7/11/2011 11:38:20 PM

  • @lillymunster Like the NRC dodges FOIA requests by never actually taking possession of the documents, which are carefully lodged on a separate not-NRC server, with static routes so the link is one-to-one and they can, with all legal deniability say "We don't possess those documents." That was actually quite a revealing comment, and gave away more than she probably intended about how they dodge things like FOIA demands.

The corporate disregard for mere human life is rarely on display in so many arenas at once.
    by RadioGuy 7/11/2011 11:44:50 PM

  • @RadioGuy Someone posted a site a few weeks ago that tracked how many FOIA requests went unanswered at the NRC. It was huge how many just never were completed.

  • @elainekirk oh my. I looked at those food charts at first and thought they found nothing in clams. Then looked down further. Is your links list all of them or is there a way to dig up more?
    by lillymunster 7/12/2011 12:44:08 AM

  • Bo, this might be helpful sorting the food situation. If you view it via Google Chrome it auto-translates everything. This is the start page for food categories. It then breaks down by food sub category then shows food by area and all sorts of data. yasaikensa.cloudapp.net
