Hi Dean, I hope some good lawyers have come to help the family, they will need them.
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 2:52:55 AM

indeed lilly
by dean 7/12/2011 2:53:42 AM

@nuckelchen No they won't and it should not have taken a workers death to get TEPCO to do anything about worker safety.
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 2:54:40 AM

not by stress or "overwork". they should check their workers' health before sending them to work. this is tepco's fault.
by Edano 7/12/2011 2:54:53 AM

@nuckelchen ?? didn't understand the last post?
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 2:56:29 AM

@nuckelchen It took all of this for the Labor Ministry to show up and make TEPCO do something about heat and work conditions. Yes, they should all be having a physical. Trying to work in the heat in radiation suits is like an extreme athletic event.
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 2:58:06 AM

they seem to have a doctor on the site at least.
by Edano 7/12/2011 2:59:31 AM

and a helicopter for emergencies they should have.
by Edano 7/12/2011 2:59:57 AM

@nuckelchen I heard they made shifts shorter. Still hard when it is that hot out. I think all have a personal dosimeter now, they should have had them by the second day.
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 3:00:10 AM

@Edano Elaine found the TEPCO document from June that talked about medical staff. They have some sort of medical tech and now minimum of 1 doctor at J Village all the time.
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 3:01:16 AM

@nuckelchen really? were you looking at a recorded video of them doing work?
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 3:01:38 AM

@nuckelchen hmm. I can ask Elaine tomorrow, she might know.
@Dean, do personal dosimeters go under the tyvek suit?
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 3:03:26 AM

@lillymunster : where is j village ?
by Edano 7/12/2011 3:04:08 AM

@lilly.. they are typically put on the outside of the last garment
by dean 7/12/2011 3:05:22 AM

@Edano by Daini. That is where they have the dorms and essential services.
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 3:05:27 AM

@dean last garment being coveralls or tyvek?
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 3:05:54 AM

@ lilly.. there are exceptions.. they have things like finger wands and wrist ones that can be worn on the skin under the coveralls also
by dean 7/12/2011 3:06:06 AM

I have this image from a worker showing his dosimeter. He was/is working at J Village houseoffoust.com

@lilly it depends on the radiation levels... but for fukushima the tyvek would be the last covering
by dean 7/12/2011 3:06:35 AM

@dean so dosimeters should be visible then?
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 3:07:00 AM

the workers would want the dosimeter where it could be heard and read
by dean 7/12/2011 3:07:11 AM

lots of times they send in what's called a chirper.. and it makes sounds as the radiation level increases.. like a chirp.. and then buzzzz
by dean 7/12/2011 3:07:46 AM

every person going into the zone area should have dosimetry on
by dean 7/12/2011 3:08:07 AM

individual dosimetry to track dose
by dean 7/12/2011 3:08:24 AM

@dean is a chirper an extra equipment beyond the personal dosimeter?
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 3:08:41 AM

nuckelchen.. if they have the right dosimetry on .. it shows accumulated dose which is susposed to be recoreded each day for the persons total dose... then a whole body count to back that up
by dean 7/12/2011 3:09:56 AM

@nuckelchen yes, TEPCO was telling people all workers have personal meters. The Labor Ministry was around so people assumed it was fixed. If it hasn't been fixed that needs to be fixed right away.
by lillymunster 7/12/2011 3:10:40 AM

yes lilly.. every plant has some brand name system that they use.. but most use the chirper type to go into high radiation level areas... in addition to a film back to pick up .. beta and gamma and alpha
by dean 7/12/2011 3:10:53 AM

@nuckelchen @dean the photo I posted. That is that workers total to date dose but they are at J Village not going to Daiichi.
