  • @Jo I completely agree and wouldn't be surprised if the increasing rates of Autism worldwide were at least partially precipitated by our increasing exposures to low levels of radiation.
    by LM 7/13/2011 5:08:11 PM

  • @Jo it would be interesting to gather some of that information.
    by lillymunster 7/13/2011 5:08:14 PM

  • @Bobby1 not that I know of. Have they established a max rad level for playgrounds? Ball fields should be under that mandate if they are not already.
    by lillymunster 7/13/2011 5:09:03 PM

  • @Jo @LM Vaccines DO cause autism, as well as exposure to mercury in the air.
    by Bobby1 7/13/2011 5:09:24 PM

  • @lillymunster They should be tearing out the soil on the ball fields, but then you need grass to play baseball.
    by Bobby1 7/13/2011 5:10:13 PM

  • @Bobby1 That specific issue (re: vaccines and autism) is non-consensual and highly disputed within the scientific community.
by Pedro Jesus 7/13/2011 5:11:10 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus There was a study that came out a few months ago that confirmed it. First they said mercury-containing thimerosal was completely safe, then they removed it from vaccines anyway. Now there is formaldehyde in it. The new study was post-thimerosal.
    by Bobby1 7/13/2011 5:16:11 PM

  • @LM @lillymunster, I am going away tomorrow, but will try and read up as much as I can on the long term effects of radiation.
    by Jo 7/13/2011 5:21:23 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus I agree. @Bobby1 This is definitely not the place for that particular discussion. IMHO the causes and/or triggers for autism are multifaceted. I do believe radiation exposure might be one of them.
    by LM 7/13/2011 5:23:13 PM

  • @Bobby1 Sure but that issue is highly debated and still under the scope of researchers. It's not a closed case. There have been studies that suggest that even given the risk (considering there is a relationship between vaccination and the development of autism) it is still less harmful to keep the standard vaccination systems worldwide. It is possible to have a decent life while «suffering» from autism. I know a very good case of an over average intelligent young man, who has been watching me playing live for years now, who is a walking music encyclopaedia, very caring and friendly and knows more about music than I will ever will. And I agree with LM. Lets not discuss this here. Gotta go. See you all later. =)
by Pedro Jesus 7/13/2011 5:24:11 PM

  • @Jo @Lilly I will dig a little too. There is a children's org out of the Chernobyl area that has done some research in this area. I'll see what I can locate.
    by LM 7/13/2011 5:24:40 PM

  • hello to all good people... news news.. what's the news?
    by dean 7/13/2011 5:25:17 PM

  • Hi dean..
    by Jo 7/13/2011 5:26:20 PM

  • Hi Dean!
    by LM 7/13/2011 5:26:59 PM

  • Ok.coffee is calling ...back soon.
    by Jo 7/13/2011 5:34:54 PM

  • @dean not much at all today. TEPCo released some results of soil testing. Found plutonium, americium, etc. The decontamination machine is not working....again. The beef problem, they found some of the restaurants that served it.
    by lillymunster 7/13/2011 5:35:44 PM

  • @Bobby1 If the soil on a baseball stadium is over the playground limit it should be handled like a playground. They can resod if they can ship in sod from somewhere less contaminated. The amount of dirt you kick up and wallow in playing ball is pretty considerable.
    by lillymunster 7/13/2011 5:38:06 PM

  • @bobby1 have you seen that @jilly has joined us to help with the bird questions?
    by elainekirk 7/13/2011 5:41:59 PM

  • @elainekirk Yes, I did, and the bird behavior can be very useful in understanding what is happening. I'm sure there are many bird watchers in Japan and the US.
    by Bobby1 7/13/2011 5:45:00 PM

  • not much of a news worthy day lilly... I really with the GOJ would turn the corner on this thing and admit they have contamination with a more proactive approach and then let the countries expertise and resource work to deal with things... they could be the leaders in the world on how to do this the right way

  • icons-ecast.wunderground.com The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) reports this morning that Ma-on, about 655 east-southeast of Iwo-Jima, has shown “steadily improving organization” over the past six hours, with convection “consolidating around the core” and the emergence of an eye.

The storm’s current peak winds are 75 mph, equivalent to category 1 hurricane

The storm is expected to remain within a tropical airmass with low wind shear and warm sea surface temperatures as it continues west through the northern Philippines Sea. Consequently, significant intensification is forecast over the next 72 hours, with peak winds predicted to reach 125 mph by Saturday morning, equivalent to a category 3 hurricane. JTWC cautions there is no reason to expect signficant weakening until the storm makes landfall.

  • @dean What kind of Biking you do? I was doing Mountain Bike , but now only in the end of the year...
    by Majj 7/13/2011 5:53:37 PM

  • @dean They are quickly being cornered by the people and the information. I think it has officially hit the fan. It will probably be slow as usual for the govt. to finally admit it.
    by lillymunster 7/13/2011 5:54:01 PM

  • More on the WEATHER :Exactly where the storm comes ashore is uncertain this far out, but the official JTWC forecast brings Ma-on in the vicinity of southern Japan Monday or Tuesday of next week.
AccuWeather says the storm could bring destructive winds to Japan’s southern coasts and 10 to 20 inches of rain.
Stars and Stripes typhoon blogger, Dave Ornauer, writes the storm is likely to affect the U.S. bases in Okinawa:
What winds Okinawa might experience remains up to which way Ma-on moves, but JTWC’s latest prognostic reasoning states that the “tremendous scale of the storm will still impact Okinawa” in some manner.
Accuweather offers the following prognosis further north from Tokyo to the northeast coast:
Greater Tokyo is unlikely to feel the worst of the storm, no matter its ultimate track. Still, flooding rain and damaging winds could take place in the early to middle parts of the week.
Likewise, in northeastern Honshu, at the site of the March tsunami and nuclear disasters, there is the potential for heavy rain, high winds and rough seas next week. www.tropicalstormrisk.com

  • @Majj, thanks..
    by Jo 7/13/2011 6:11:05 PM

  • @all, almost everything I have read on twitter today involved people trying to educate each other on radiation protection information, technical terms to understand them, what they should be doing, not doing or stories related to exposures or found levels around Japan. It is really interesting to watch this evolve. The Govt. has officially lost control of the conversation and people seem to be moving into a sort of communal self preservation.
    by lillymunster 7/13/2011 6:13:11 PM

  • Majj.. I do road bicycling like the tour de france..
    by dean 7/13/2011 6:15:15 PM

  • lilly.. let me know of anything I can do to help with the education and information that hasn't been done already
    by dean 7/13/2011 6:16:46 PM

  • @dean If we can put together some sort of quick DIY type thing that is what people should avoid, what they can personally do etc. it would be easy to pass around a link to it via twitter. People were discussing ALARA (as low as reasonably acceptable) a bit ago. So something that runs through terminology. Then maybe a list of 10 things people can do to lower their exposures and links to more in depth resources and the in country groups dealing with things like child exposure, food testing etc.

  • @lillymunster This is the beginning of the new Man. This is the way to overcome the Fear, Governments and Corporations. The Mothers energy will change the world for God. This will spreed to America and the rest of the world. In America we cal see already people talking and writing, formatting groups to check the radioactive problem. ;-)))))
    by Majj 7/13/2011 6:23:40 PM

  • @Majj I sure hope so! The change in tone and conversations among people in the last week is considerable. Little bits out of the political realm are showing up. Kan's statement he might nationalize nuclear plants. Comments from the political bodies about alternative energy policies. Every day a new company announces an alternative energy change they are doing.

  • copied from another blog...Have a garden for the last 30 years,50 miles south of Tokyo. Walking down the street this month and noticed many dead insects on the street. They looked whole and normal just dead. Then noticed that this is the first time in 30 years that my garden is free of leaf eaters and also molds . Checking around and other gardeners are also mold and insect free. No aphids this year, no caterpillar , and no japanese beetle. Must be the radiation......This doesn't sound good....

    by lillymunster 7/13/2011 6:31:57 PM

    by dean 7/13/2011 6:33:04 PM

  • and they could do a whole body count .. I'm just afraid to think what they may do with them tho
    by dean 7/13/2011 6:33:22 PM
