  • U.S. wasn't fully prepared for radiation risks following Japan earthquake, top general says
In the first few days of Japan’s nuclear crisis this spring, the U.S. military wasn’t fully prepared to deal with possible radiation exposure to its troops and equipment, the top U.S. general in Japan said Wednesday.

How can the US military not be prepared for radiation risks? This is unbelievable and I smell BS.

  • @elainekirk Bad?
    by joniver 7/29/2011 6:06:31 PM

  • i think all citizens of the world have to learn from fukushima, that not everything will be done for them in case of a nuke accident, on the contrary, they will be treated like animals in a chemical lab.
    by Edano 7/29/2011 6:10:18 PM

  • consequently, nukes have to be abolished in order to ensure human safety.
    by Edano 7/29/2011 6:12:51 PM

  • nukes and safety are two words that should never be used in the same sentence !
    by Edano 7/29/2011 6:13:46 PM

  • @Edano This is why certain factions of the nuclear industry (NRC and IAEA included) have been so busy trying to deflect attention and making blanket statements that everything is fine. If people are fully informed they will vote against nuclear power plants in large numbers.
    by lillymunster 7/29/2011 6:17:15 PM

  • it is a joke that now it turns out that in chernobyl (before the iaea existed) they really tried to do everything to ensure people's safety, and now they deny the necessity.
    by Edano 7/29/2011 6:19:59 PM

  • @Edano I think if we keep going we will have such a vast catalogue of information presented in user friendly format
    by elainekirk 7/29/2011 6:30:32 PM

  • I believe we are human guinea pigs for all modern technology which includes processed food, electronic communications, medicine, nuclear energy and more. The attitude is, if we can make money from it lets give it to them and see what happens. Long term effects are in their favor.
    by joniver 7/29/2011 6:30:32 PM

  • @lillymunster re: "isn't a health risk" What they tend to say is "isn't an IMMEDIATE health risk". As in people aren't falling over sick or dead right away. Evildoers.
    by ariadne 7/29/2011 6:33:48 PM

  • One article said parents are stopping feeding beef to their kids but turning to pork instead. Seems like pork is likely to turn out to also be poisoned. So sad.
    by ariadne 7/29/2011 6:35:57 PM

  • @ariadne So true, how can one farm animal be affected and not the other.
    by joniver 7/29/2011 6:38:10 PM

  • @ariadne That's exactly what it is. More TEPPYspeak. Or GoJspeak... they both do it. OK, they all do it.

Dictionary entry: No immediate risk to health" = "You're not going to drop dead on the spot from it."
    by RadioGuy 7/29/2011 6:39:47 PM

  • Future generations will not think well of us.
    by joniver 7/29/2011 6:40:42 PM

  • @joniver @ariadne It's like in the radiation map video above, where people evacuated from a safe spot inside the exclusion zone to a spot well outside the zone which was far more contaminated.
    by RadioGuy 7/29/2011 6:41:14 PM

  • Because "if we test, we admit we're worried abotu radiation."
    by RadioGuy 7/29/2011 6:41:36 PM

  • @joniver Oh. It's that special cow thing where they eat, breathe and drink. That's why they're the only ones contaminated.
    by RadioGuy 7/29/2011 6:42:44 PM

  • back
    by dean 7/29/2011 6:44:45 PM

  • @RadioGuy It's hard to believe all Japanese people think like this.
    by joniver 7/29/2011 6:45:20 PM

  • @joniver good point. There have been many prescription drugs put on the US market that were not tested enough and later found to have major problems. Also many where
the drug maker knew the problem, hid it and the drug went to market.
    by lillymunster 7/29/2011 6:46:39 PM

  • @joniver They don't. There is a major disconnect in Japan between the govt. and the whole spectrum of people. Many see this for exactly what it is but are having a hard time getting change.
    by lillymunster 7/29/2011 6:47:32 PM

  • @lillymunster Sometimes I feel I'm on someone's runaway gravy train.
    by joniver 7/29/2011 6:49:16 PM

  • @lillymunster Yes, you can look at the buying patterns of the Japanese people to see that they get it. No one in their right mind can see all this downstream contamination from "one batch of bad rice straw" (man, that straw fed a lot of people... that's loaves and fishes stuff) and say, Oh thank God only rice straw gets contaminated."
    by RadioGuy 7/29/2011 6:50:37 PM
