  • @elainekirk : yes and now i remember it was a tv program of a guy in tokyo who reduced his energy need by 90% turning off ac and using switches on every cable. it was impressing. he equipped his refrigerator with transparent foil so the cold air does not completetly leak when he opens it. he had a very small appartment and he was student and he said there was a kind of competition in university who saves most.

  • well, myself, when i modernized electricity in my house long time ago, i used central switches for every room so i can put off everything when i leave or don't need the room. i have two types of plugs: switched and unswitched. you get used to it. :)

  • @Edano the man on the street puts it in a usable form rather than government gobbledegook thought up by overpaid 'experts'
    by elainekirk 8/4/2011 9:56:43 PM

  • same in my practice one switch for everything so my girls can't forget to switch off anything over the weekend.

  • @elainekirk : i can't get used to the eco light. i still buy "heat globes" in internet... nobody's perfect.
    by Edano 8/4/2011 10:00:04 PM

  • @Edano we use halogen bulbs for places that LED or CFL just don't work. They seem to be a happy compromise. Use a bit less power but still give decent light. Finding decent LED in the US is still a challenge.
    by lillymunster 8/4/2011 10:01:44 PM

  • @lillymunster halogen light is nice, but what i don't understand is that they are considerably hot, hotter than the normal bulbs in my opinion ....

    by lillymunster 8/4/2011 10:05:52 PM

  • @Edano they do seem to run a bit hotter but the smaller bulb can go into a smaller location and give off a decent amount of light.

  • @Edano I use a daylight bulb www.energybulbs.co.uk

  • Considering the workers use the area closest to the camera for access to rest area's etc and that at times they use the route to the right of the camera, and in an emergency would need to use both sides , wouldnt tepco have the common sense to keep the plants cut back

  • State rolls out rice disposal rules
    Kyodo

The farm ministry said Wednesday that municipalities should test rice to be locally harvested this year in two stages for possible radioactive pollution from the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant and dispose of all grains found to be contaminated above the government-set safety limit.A preliminary test should be carried out about a week before harvesting in municipalities where more than 1,000 becquerels of radioactive cesium per kilogram of soil are detected or where radiation doses in the air are higher than normal levels, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. search.japantimes.co.jp

  • @ elaine.. most nuclear facilities have designated evacuation routes based on the prevailing historical wind directions, I imagine that's a thing of the past at fukushima
    by dean 8/5/2011 12:44:02 AM

  • @dean I dont see any maybe the subject shoud be raised there are hundreds of men working in that area of the reactors

  • americanhistory.si.edu check out the last sentence @ elaine.. nice article on TMI debris excavation
    by dean 8/5/2011 1:02:55 AM

  • common sense tells me that they should surely have evacuation routes and alarm signals to let workers know to evacuate
    by dean 8/5/2011 1:03:45 AM

  • americanhistory.si.edu good write up on entering the TMI containment... notice the time frame

  • I heard back from Tehachapi. The readings are an oddity with his program and some other issues at his place. He isn't seeing anything atmospheric that has increased.
    by lillymunster 8/5/2011 1:11:31 AM

  • @dean tepco have cameras if tmi's still worked tepco's will be surely meaning tepco are witholding info and the industry/goj must be complicit in that?
