@LM @Lurking hi lurking good to see you @LM and a few minutes ago on twitter they were saying it would never happen
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:11:23 AM

@Lurking what do you think to the hole? surely spray would have shown if it had been exposed prior to sundays quake?

Govt may allow brief home visits to evacueesThe Japanese government may allow evacuees whose homes are close to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to return home temporarily.
In response to the nuclear accident in March, the government set up a 20-kilometer no-entry zone around the plant. Later, it allowed brief visits by residents whose homes are located within 3 to 20 kilometers of the plant.
But visits to homes within 3 kilometers of the plant have been banned.
The government says it is now making arrangements for those residents to return temporarily because the plant's reactors are being cooled in a stable manner, and radiation levels are declining.
The government will soon begin detailed radiation monitoring in the area to ensure the safety of the returning evacuees.

@Lurking next question - why are they showing that angle if the leak is here?

@Edano it seems only snippets of the busby address were translated for the audience
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:26:38 AM

What busby address?
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:27:11 AM

This doesn't make sense. They took those photos on Aug 4th and that guy is so close to the vent stack. From the position he is on the reactor side of the tower. Wouldn't that put him really close to the hot spots?

Yellow Area A84
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:33:00 AM

The yellow side is marked A84. I can't tell if the right side is a hole or painted black.
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:33:29 AM

The bracket to the right isn't positioned right (forward) to be a panel to cover that yellow/black area. The black doesn't seem to have anything indicating a hole into the concrete but it is hard to tell due to the quality.

rusty drum near air or pump unit?
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:40:13 AM

This is left of the yellow/black thing. It looks like some sort of air handling/pump or generator box. The top of that drum is heavily rusted around the top.

From other side, close up yellow sign 10,000 svh
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:41:37 AM

I can't quite make out all the text on the sign to translate it but the greater than 10,000 svh is clear.
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:42:14 AM

@lillymunster busby went to Japan to support the parents gave a big rousing address got loads of applause - it seems that most of what he said wasnt translated
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:43:16 AM

@elainekirk was this at the Hiroshima events or elsewhere?
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:44:28 AM

top of the rusty looking pipe
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:45:37 AM

bottom of the rusty pipe
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:49:24 AM

@lillymunster it may be this teleconference need to ask rocky
www.youtube.comby elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:51:51 AM

This pipe appears to be wrapped in some sort of covering, Maybe a cement tape or asbestos tape? It is interesting that the rust seems to be coming out from the bands of the tape and running down the pipe. The surrounding areas have green spray but the rust doesn't seem to be covered by green goo as if it is on top. That would tie in with the concerns that this new hot spot came after the quake and pressure loss at 1
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:52:00 AM

@lillymunster did you see Ians post about the cesium?
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:52:39 AM

@elainekirk yes I did. Thus the hunt on rusty things. :-)
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:56:11 AM

this is near the warning sign look how the wall base is showing the same staining that the pipe is I still wonder if that is coming up from a fracture in the ground that earth area doesnt look stable and those stacks are on concrete plinths surely normally
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:56:20 AM

box, other side or what looked like a drum
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 2:01:10 AM

This is off to the right. I think this is the other side of that air handling (or whatever it is) equipment. It isn't a round drum it is this box that obviously does something. Look at all the rust oozing off it.
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 2:02:07 AM

I looked at the pipe next to his shoulder. It is wrapped in some sort of tape and has the green spray on top. So the rusty one is likely post spraydown or the rust would have green intermingled.
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 2:04:35 AM

@lillymunster lets look at mondays pics again
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 2:07:38 AM

shows a better angle on many of the same items. Going over it in photoshop a bit www.tepco.co.jp

look at that square too straight edges to be anything but something being ripped/blown out of its seating
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 2:11:42 AM

ground under the spill areas
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 2:11:45 AM

There is a hole in either an asphalt or a thick packed down layer of dirt where that big piece of sheet metal landed. Hard to tell if the sheet metal did that or if there is some ground instability under where the sheet metal is.
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 2:14:02 AM

now look again if something sprayed out of that square area it would leave the splatter you see on the plinth to the right and pour over that pipe ?
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 2:15:23 AM

trying to square the photos with the gamma camera image msnbcmedia.msn.com

Okay. I think the lower left gamma camera reading might be the rusty pipe area. That would leave the upper right spot somewhere in the approach pipes
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 2:18:31 AM

@lillymunster looking closer that stuff on te pipe has to be coming from a leak in the bend. Wonder what the splatter on the right is?
