@lillymunster where is '1 in relation to the gamma pic?
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 2:23:35 AM

@elainekirk not totally sure. The gamma camera makes things look odd. It may be off to the right
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 2:33:03 AM

@lillymunster why is the upper half of the building in the background of gamma pic shredded?
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 2:40:00 AM

sheet steel sides. Most of the out buildings that had steel walls look like that now. :-)
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 2:48:22 AM

www.tepco.co.jp @lillymunster the small bore pipe coming from the box going up then bend then 'filter' fitting , then nothing? if it is coming out of there it would explain the haziness in that patch of the pic and it would be around the right height for the second gamma plus the box is around the blue gamma line below the second one

@lillymunster actually your 'rusty' barrel could be the lower straight gamma line
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 2:57:58 AM

We should ask around if anyone has any clue what all of this gear is. I will try to grab some other images of this tower tomorrow morning. That may help us sort out placement etc.

by lillymunster 8/6/2011 3:09:34 AM

Thanks Peter, gives a better idea of location. Any thoughts on the equipment at the vent stack base?
by lillymunster 8/6/2011 3:11:12 AM

@Peter Melzer correct, I just assumed it was by the turbine building but he didn't elaborate so yes it could be one of these sheds.

Greetings from the middle of the anniversary day here in Hiroshima. A very vocal anti-nuclear power protest going on here. Less foreigners than usual, but more Japanese political groups and a much bigger showing by anti-nuke groups this year.
by bo 8/6/2011 4:15:17 AM

good morning

www.tepco.co.jp the mystery deepens because if the leak is at ground level and the other leak is the pipe elbow at the other side what is the hot spot on the gamma camera higher up
by elainekirk 8/6/2011 9:22:49 AM

both at or near ground level so they havent given out the source of the higher hot spot

Kan: No-nuclear generation society a gov't policyJapan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan says he will promote the idea of a society without reliance on nuclear power generation, not as a personal assertion but as a government policy.
The prime minister made the remark at a news conference in Hiroshima City, western Japan, on Saturday after the 66th anniversary ceremony of the US atomic bombing of the city.
He reiterated his ceremony statement that Japan will revise its energy policy from scratch and reduce its dependence on nuclear power, aiming to create a society independent of nuclear power.
He added that he proposed at an energy and environmental panel of Cabinet members at the end of last month that the current policy be completely reversed and to submit a scenario with a timetable to realize that goal.
He said Japan will do its best to bring about nuclear abolition and aim to create a world without nuclear weapons where no nuclear deterrent is necessary.
He said the country will maintain the 3 non-nuclear principles, which are core policies known domestically and internationally, adding that he believes it is important to clearly express Japan's commitment to the principles to the world.

Our response to the report in "Morning Bird" broadcasted by TV Asahi on July 18
July 19, 2011
Tokyo Electric Power Company
The captioned program broadcasted a report titled "Compensation for Nuclear Damage - TEPCO does not assume responsibility - burden to the public" that may be misleading in relation to our asset holding. The facts are as below:
- We, TEPCO, sincerely recognize that we are the party to this incident. We plan to respond to the request for compensation to people suffered in a fair and timely manner with the support from the national government.
- Since May in 2011, in addition to stabilizing the incident and ensuring stable electric supply, in order to respond to the request for compensation in a steadfast manner, we are making the direction clear and implementing extreme business efficiency and streamlining measures such as asset sale (sale of assets other than required for electricity utility business, abolish all recreation facilities and sell all facilities that are marketable , target to raise over 600 billion yen), reduction of investment and expenses and streamlining of organization, group structure and corporate downsizing.

"important buildings were damaged by the seismic underground cable distribution line" makes not much sense...
by Edano 8/6/2011 11:24:48 AM

ikrockhopper Itsumi Kakefuda
TEPCO was doing underground survey for shield construction. But the drawings they used was wrong, and damaged a cable. (cont) Blackout occurred at the seismic isolation bldg, not reactor bldgs. It is said that they don't have comprehensive...cont) drawings were intentionally discarded to hide some structural problems of the plant/reactors.!!!!!!!!!!
