  • @Edano cont) drawings were intentionally discarded to hide some structural problems of the plant/reactors.!!! I am adding to rockhopper post below

  • @Edano rockhopper says this is the busby interview www.ourplanet-tv.org

  • Good morning, major media picking up on Japanese radiation plight. Here this headline in the wsj: "Radiation Threat Rattles Japan's Food Chain" with plenty documentation: online.wsj.com

  • Morning all (afternoon-evening)
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:01:26 PM

  • Oh Elaine please get my coffee deficient head up to speed. :-) The discarded building plans? Did he hear that from workers? Media? Was this recent?
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:06:08 PM

  • @lillymunster yes
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:07:53 PM

  • A bit unrelated, but astounding, that 37 US soliders died in Afghanistan yesterday is unworthy the headline these days.
by Peter Melzer 8/6/2011 1:08:24 PM

  • @lillymunster edano posted the koyodo headlinee I asked rockhopper if he had access and that is what it says ! he did find another article the translate one but it doesnt translate well ie may instead of august
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:09:17 PM

  • @lillymunster the rockhopper is straight from the english koyodo that needs subscribe outside Japan
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:10:33 PM

  • So Kyodo says TEPCO ditched building plans?
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:11:35 PM

  • @Peter Melzer I saw it but only in a concerned citizens tweet not as headline disgusting and disrespectful of msm to ignore it
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:11:40 PM

  • @lillymunster oh yes :)
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:11:53 PM

  • @lillymunster and we only find out because edano and others posts those headlines ! Thanks to all the diligent news posters and big for @Edano he stuck with it and made me ask
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:13:16 PM

  • hmm Edano do you still have Kyodo access? Otherwise maybe we should watch BreitBart for the full text? There is something more to that comment that needs exploration. The blueprints of the plant were such a big deal early on. They either didn't have a set or claimed they were destroyed in the quake and had subcontractors give them some copies. If TEPCO purposely hid/destroyed building plans along with the many other factors that showed they knew units 1-4 were dangerous this is a really big deal liability wise.
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:15:03 PM

  • As in TEPCO execs going to jail.
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:15:24 PM

  • @lillymunster it sure is
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:16:38 PM

  • It would explain why there was such an issue over the elevation drawing way back when.
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:17:10 PM

  • @lillymunster , this will come to light. Because all construction work is done by contractors, some must have knowledge of such findings.
by Peter Melzer 8/6/2011 1:18:12 PM

  • @lillymunster Small correction. TEPCO never claimed the blueprints had been destroyed in the quake. They claim that the blueprints were lost in the tsunami after the quake.
by Pedro Jesus 8/6/2011 1:20:16 PM

  • @Peter Melzer Toshiba and the other build contractor would have had full blueprint sets. They could very well be in on the hiding of the original plans as they would bear some of the same liability. Post construction sub contractors may only have plans for one area and only the plan for what they are working on such as the electrical systems plan.

@Pedro LOL! That would make more sense. I had thought the original excuse was the building being quake damaged but I think the admin building is down in the low area so it would have been inundated. I always found it suspect that the corporate office in Tokyo did not have a full set of plans for the plant stored there.
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:23:14 PM

  • @Peter Melzer yes those drawings are in archives I should imagine there are copies in a ffew locations the nrc refused to disclose them in response to a foi so they have copiees or they would have just said they had none
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:23:16 PM

  • OOh Elaine! Back when the first plant was built in 1969 was the NRC around or was it still the Atomic Energy Commission?
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:24:30 PM

  • @Peter Melzer @lillymunster one idea the nrc foi if the author can be found he could be asked if he managed to source them elsewhere - long shot though
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:24:51 PM

  • @lillymunster oooo Lilly lets go play you genius
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 1:25:19 PM

  • NRC 1975, so the AEC might hold info on Fuku! en.wikipedia.org
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:25:23 PM

  • Bo understand the national archive system he might be able to help sort out where that could be stored. The bigger question is would the AEC have plans for fuku since it is a foreign project? Unit 1 was totally a GE project but the US really had their nose in things back then so maybe the AEC would have a reason to have info?
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:26:53 PM

  • Todays bizarre bit of historical trivia: The Atoms for Peace program built nuclear reactors in Iran and Pakistan. The reactors were built by AMF, a company known for bowling balls and sporting goods. en.wikipedia.org en.wikipedia.org
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:32:19 PM

  • I extend this to damage assessment and repair after the reactors were built. Imagine some inspector reports foundation cracks on the site. What would Tepco do? Like any home owner, call a specialized company to look at the problem and give a quote. In this process they may have stumbled upon things that could not be repaired, but only fixed, sort of like the five-year fixes your neighborhood handyman offers. There will be plenty knowledge about such weaknesses in the construction community involved in the upkeep of the plant.
by Peter Melzer 8/6/2011 1:35:01 PM

  • @Peter Melzer there is a treasure trove somewhere in Japan where mundane work permits and building records are kept.
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:37:20 PM

  • Exactly, I do not know, but assume there may be public bidding for major work at the plant.
by Peter Melzer 8/6/2011 1:39:03 PM

  • Telling from the pics, tepco tried to squeeze by with a minimum investment in maintenance.
by Peter Melzer 8/6/2011 1:41:18 PM

  • I'm out for a bit.
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 1:57:53 PM

  • @lillymunster I put the hiroshima article on HEF but I used the link in the article title so will that link still be valid ?
    by elainekirk 8/6/2011 4:25:13 PM

  • I hadn't even seen that version. All I found were the official statements. The whole transcript would be good
