Just had a random disturbing thought. All that contaminated fish and meat, what is preventing that being put into pet food?
by lillymunster 8/10/2011 7:37:37 PM

@elainekirk Someone needs to do the total actual costs of nuclear power including fuel handling, disposal and clean up, accident costs and all the costs society ends up paying for rather than the power company. Then tack the per dollar basis back
on to every power plant

Why do I recognize that name?
by lillymunster 8/10/2011 7:52:16 PM

Joseph Mangano is the guy that started the west coast dead babies mess, he wrote the paper with the cherry picked data.

@lillymunster concerning hindenburg and rockefeller's "standard oil company" :
"Contrary to popular belief, the Hindenburg had flown an entire year of successful voyages before it caught on fire. Questions and controversy surround the accident to this day: theories for the sudden burst of flames include sabotage against the German Nazis, ....."
en.wikipedia.orgby Edano 8/10/2011 7:58:09 PM

not quite right, because hitler did not support the zeppelin construction (he refused the ship to be named hitler, so it was named hindenburg). the hindenburg was rather destroyed by a collaboration of the nazis and standard oil. but it is just a weird (?) theory.
by Edano 8/10/2011 8:03:46 PM

@Edano I knew there was speculation about sabotage rather than a lightening strike.
by lillymunster 8/10/2011 8:09:04 PM

@Edano I hadnt heard that it has Aalways been called an 'accident' here, sabotage does hold water ..
by elainekirk 8/10/2011 8:09:34 PM

@Peter Melzer @lillymunster @elainekirk the story is interesting because it puts a focus on pre war policy and economy. the US held a helium embargo against germany, while standard oil wanted to collaborate with the nazis. Eckener, the constructor of the late zeppelins, was a strong opponent of hitler.

by lillymunster 8/10/2011 8:14:10 PM

@Edano so the energy comps were running the show way back when :(
by elainekirk 8/10/2011 8:15:21 PM

None of this surprises me after reading about WWII US govt. secrecy and the games some of the big companies working with the army and govt. were up to.
by lillymunster 8/10/2011 8:16:05 PM

@elainekirk rockefeller made his money with standard oil in 1870. this was the beginning of the energy boom.
by Edano 8/10/2011 8:17:58 PM

economy doesn't know morals.
by Edano 8/10/2011 8:20:10 PM

@Edano hard to believe how blind we were/are/ to the grab rather like people survived in houses with draughts and just a range to heat my grandma did when I was young with a small open fire in the living room we took hot water bottles to bed I don't remember ever being cold and here we are today thinking we need to run central heating in our draght proof, double glazed and insulated homes
by elainekirk 8/10/2011 8:22:35 PM

@elainekirk we tried to get a real fireplace built into a new house. The builder acted like we asked him to chop off his leg.
by lillymunster 8/10/2011 8:29:21 PM

@lillymunster I laughed at that...then I cried
