  • @ lilly, you could capture what I've put in here on the topic into a few paragraphs and then my closing with emphasis on my opinion and use that for the write up. I don't want to give the impression that may be misconstrued by a lengthy write up that suggests leaning to any opinion that says we should increase limits or that small doses are actually good
    by dean 8/21/2011 1:59:44 PM

  • @ Edano :) that is an interesting web site tho...
    by dean 8/21/2011 2:00:50 PM

  • @ Edano, one thing I thought I had seen was a delay line for the building exhaust that is sized to allow the isotopes to decay with short 1/2 lives prior to going out the main exaust stack. That would be a good search to try and see how/if it applied to the fuku and then determine if a break in that delay line could have been caused by the EQ which would then have bypassed any treatment of the offgas prior to exiting the stack.

  • @ lilly, Edano, I keep seeing DRYWELL sump on the writeups for TSRs which seems to lead me to the idean that the detectors are at the sump level... still need to confirm tho

  • @dean i thought the other way round: you go there and get some secrets for us. :) be a spy !

'Most prominent pair of antinuclear activists'

The New York Times in its Aug. 20, 2011 edition carries an article describing Mizuho Fukushima (R in photo), leader of Japan's opposition Social Democratic Party, and Yuichi Kaido (L in photo), secretary general of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, as ''perhaps the country's most prominent pair of antinuclear activists.'' I also came across a link to a japanese version (which I can't read ;) ) including several pdf-downloads - but didn't find it linked on that hp -

  • @Vivre I am not sure if we had the whole paper yet. JP versions are very good. Elaine and I had been talking to rockhopper about copying the research articles int o JP and putting them on a site done in JP so people without English proficiency can still read the information themselves.
    by lillymunster 8/21/2011 2:54:09 PM

  • Morning all! @edano Thanks for posting the Times article. Do you think she has a chance to become prime minister?
    by LM 8/21/2011 3:04:13 PM

  • @LM i don't know when there are elections in japan...
    by Edano 8/21/2011 3:05:14 PM

  • @edano I don't know either..but Kan is planning on stepping down soon. I wish I knew more about the political system in Japan. It would be great to see an anti-nuclear woman running Japan..Poetic justice!
    by LM 8/21/2011 3:07:09 PM

  • @LM yes, he is stepping down, but his party will present another PM. no elections.
    by Edano 8/21/2011 3:08:58 PM

  • @LM My understanding is that when Kan steps down his political party can pick a replacement
    by lillymunster 8/21/2011 3:09:26 PM

  • @edano True..oh well. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed for the future.

    by Edano 8/21/2011 3:11:22 PM

  • @lillymunster maybe it's 'enough' to save-copy the docus and only link to these pages. I don't think these infos will vanish so quickly. Besides I would be cautious about mirrow-hosting without permission.

    by Capt D 8/21/2011 4:00:32 PM

  • @Edano This guy seems to have it right, just had some screwed up wording or quotes. SPIEGEL: Are you also researching the mental effects of the disaster?

Yamashita: Of course. We know from Chernobyl that the psychological consequences are enormous. Life expectancy of the evacuees dropped from 65 to 58 years -- not because of cancer, but because of depression, alcoholism and suicide. Relocation is not easy, the stress is very big. We must not only track those problems, but also treat them. Otherwise people will feel they are just guinea pigs in our research. www.spiegel.de

    by elainekirk 8/21/2011 4:09:05 PM

  • @RBeaner the problem with Yamashita is that he insists 100msv is safe, he also belittles others e.g. a doctor went on record saying they were dealing with large numbers of nose bleeds/ sore throats and said that they are 'facing a situation of which there is no prior experience ' a perfectly reasonable non assumptive statement but he shot her down saying she was not a doctor merely an intern. Why would he do that? she was making observation nothing more
    by elainekirk 8/21/2011 4:13:23 PM

  • @ elaine, I'm back for a few .... I believe the possibility exists that the people who are trying to base the higher number of 100msv on part of the studies done for the radiation hormesis studies which seems to use the 100 msv in their study. As was discussed earlier, I resist any increase in the exposure levels prior to fukushima accident.
    by dean 8/21/2011 4:31:44 PM

  • @RBeaner this guy is an idiot. you should think about it before citing him.
