    SUMMARY
    1. The effect of intravenously administered stable strontium on radiostrontium
excretion was studied in man under constant dietary conditions, and the results
were compared to those obtained with equivalent amounts of intravenously administered
    stable calcium.
    2. Stable strontium was more effective than stable calcium in increasing the
urinary Sr85 excretion during the period of the infusions, and the effect continued
for several days after the discontinuation of the strontium infusions.
    3. Infusions of stable strontium and stable calcium did not increase the fecal Sr85
    excretions.
    by Ian 10/3/2011 8:02:57 PM

  • www.jstor.org : "The effect of stable strontium infused at the time of administration of radiostrontium is greater than that of calcium in increasing the excretion of radiostrontium which has recently entered the body. This increase in excretion is probably not due to a decrease of bone-fixed radiostrontium, since the concentration of Sr85 in soft
tissue was shown to be relatively high for several weeks after the injection of Sr85 in man (18). Infusions of stable strontium may be useful in decreasing the body retention of Sr89 or Sr90 in man in cases of acute exposure."
    by Ian 10/3/2011 8:04:01 PM

  • @Ian , perhaps you could find out what Dr. Busby's pills precisely contain and write down why you believe that they should work. That would make a nice counter argument that we could add.
    by Peter 10/3/2011 8:22:24 PM

  • Anyone remember some "expert" in the US media that was making overly rosy statements and we dug up a ton of dirt on him having paid professional relationships with a bunch of nuclear power companies? I just ran across a page of FOIA releases that are all the emergency details for Comanche Peak owned by Luminant. That is one of the companies this guy is an executive with. How his company ties into a FOIA for fukushima I do not know yet but I don't think Comanche peak is a GE BWR? I will go see if I can find the original info on that guy. Seems very very odd to be in there.
    by lillymunster 10/3/2011 8:38:13 PM

  • I love the search feature on the new website. Typed in Luminant and the article popped up. :-) Richard Meserve. He was touting about how "newer" US nuclear plants are oh so safe and just those nasty old GE BWR units from the 70's were dangerous. He has a financial stake in Comanche Peak/Luminant.

"Meserve is also a director for Luminent Energy, a power company that owns Comanche Peak nuclear plant. "
    houseoffoust.com

So how is this guy implicated or tied into Fukushima...
    by lillymunster 10/3/2011 8:41:13 PM

  • Hrm. The new units at Comanche Peak are they the Texas nuclear plant complex that TEPCO was going to have a hand in? It says Mitsubishi was involved. I think this may be the same one. Still not clue why it is in a FOIA for fuku. en.wikipedia.org

  • Radiation counters installed at Fukushima schools
A worker installs a radiation counter at a playground of an elementary school in the city of Fukushima on Oct. 3, 2011. The Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Ministry is proceeding with a project to install unattended counters that measure radiation levels in the air every 10 minutes for prompt and real-time announcements at all elementary schools in Fukushima Prefecture, except for the exclusion zone and areas under the central government's evacuation directive, in the wake of the crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. english.kyodonews.jp
    by M.I.A. 10/3/2011 10:14:20 PM

  • @M.I.A. looking at the photo that seems to be a closed unit that will be remotely accessed meaning parents, pupils, teachers will be unaware of the actual level of radiation unless some government body decides to inform them and how likely is that to happen. If you ask me the only purpose those will be put to is to match future illnesses, intergenerational genetic /immune problems up to the level of radiation they were exposed to as children
I do of course hope I am wrong

  • @elainekirk , bank branches in the U.S. sometimes are outfitted with huge electronic billboards that display the temperature among other things. Why not display the air radiation levels on such things?
    by Peter 10/3/2011 10:40:49 PM

  • @Peter it would cause fear and panic Peter which translates to having to find somewhere safe for people to move and tepco paying them compensation
    by elainekirk 10/3/2011 10:43:40 PM

  • @Peter, is there an argument that radionuclides are not biologically displaced but similar nutrients to counter?

  • Govt to check radiation levels outside 20km zone

The Japanese government says it will check the radiation levels in the environment at 5 municipalities outside the 20-kilometer no-entry zone around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

The decision follows a move last Friday to lift an evacuation advisory for the 5 municipalities, which are mainly located in the ring between 20 and 30 kilometers from the plant.

Many of the residents have not returned home as the decontamination process is not complete.

A government nuclear accident taskforce will conduct studies on the environment in the municipalities at their request.

The taskforce will use a device onboard a vehicle to measure radiation levels on the roads. Unmanned helicopters will be used in hilly places, where vehicles cannot enter.

It will also examine the density of radioactive substances in wells and springs at 4,000 spots, as well as in streams, rivers and reservoirs at 19 places.

The government says it will publicize the degree of decreasing radiation levels as the decontamination process continues.
