  • @Ian Wow.
    by lillymunster 10/31/2011 8:14:18 PM

  • @Ian are you working on something for your website with this?
    by lillymunster 10/31/2011 8:18:59 PM

  • @Ian frightening
    by elainekirk 10/31/2011 8:19:01 PM

  • @lillymunster & elainekirk, thanks! It's for my next video but I had to share it sooner. In reading the NAS report I realize that in spending so much time at the library, I'm somewhat reinventing the wheel. As it should be, the NAS has done a reliable job of summing up the available body of scientific data on radiation.
    by Ian 10/31/2011 8:25:32 PM

  • @Ian let me know when you have the video done. This is the kind of info people in Japan have been asking for. They are getting so much BS and propaganda thrown at them they don't know what the facts are
    by lillymunster 10/31/2011 8:33:28 PM

  • @lillymunster, exactly. I should have put off my Unit-3 research in favor of the far-more urgent issue of radiation's impact on health. Notice that this chart shows the level (0.1 Gy = 100 mSv) at which the radiophilic cranks the Japanese Govt has put in place claim there's no risk below. Impossible!
    by Ian 10/31/2011 8:44:10 PM

  • @Ian It is whack-a-mole everything is urgent all at the same time. Sometimes it is hard to determine what thing to go after first
    by lillymunster 10/31/2011 8:47:35 PM

  • @all - I added a scrolling news feed to the website on the far right. The stories are manually put in so whatever is there is relevant. Still messing with it to see if I can add links. I wanted to add it for those news stories not big enough for an article inclusion but we want people to see
    by lillymunster 10/31/2011 8:48:53 PM

  • @lillymunster ooo I will go looky
    by elainekirk 10/31/2011 8:52:50 PM

  • that drinking water out of 5+6 did the press not point out that 5+6are in cold shut down and not leaking if tepco are to be believed and that maybe he should have been drinking water from 1-4
    by elainekirk 10/31/2011 8:55:32 PM

  • @elainekirk supposedly the water in 5-6 was groundwater if you believe TEPCO.
    by lillymunster 10/31/2011 9:00:39 PM

  • Heh - links work in the feed
    by lillymunster 10/31/2011 9:03:10 PM

  • @lillymunster oh that is brilliant love it
    by elainekirk 10/31/2011 9:08:46 PM

  • LMAO!!!!!

Someone asked Sonoda in this press conference, "Is there anything that you do that has made progress?" (as tweeted by Ryuichi Kino, independent journalist)

  • they keep increasing the water being pumped into #1 it went up to 6+ yestrday and today it is 7+
At 2:59 pm on October 31, we adjusted the amount of water injection to
the reactor to approximately 7.5m3/h in order to improve the working
environment inside the covering, making it sure to mitigate the steam
emission at the reactor building of Unit 1

    by elainekirk 10/31/2011 9:24:13 PM

  • @elainekirk i finally hit me why steam is suddenly such a problem. The tent is done, it must be turning into a steam bath inside like #2 was for a while due to the building being intact. Workers couldn't see inside 2 for a long time. The bad side effect of the tent.
    by lillymunster 10/31/2011 9:28:36 PM

  • @lillymunster plus the steam will be so damned radioactive
    by elainekirk 10/31/2011 9:37:34 PM

  • @elainekirk it is like nobody thought about the cause and effect. They do have a top vent and that air scrubber system installed. They must not be enough.
    by lillymunster 10/31/2011 9:38:07 PM

  • I think tepco were hoping for more air escaping than has been the case
    by elainekirk 10/31/2011 10:04:28 PM

  • another point I havent seen raised anywhere is that without the air circulating the moisture/oxygen mix is going to create an environment where metal is just gonna rust away
    by elainekirk 10/31/2011 10:06:22 PM

  • @elainekirk heat rises but if there are not clear paths up and out it isn't going to clear easily. The lack of a breeze or convection may be more of a problem than anticipated.

  • Belgium to abolish nuclear power

Belgium has decided to shut down all its nuclear reactors following Japan's nuclear catastrophe in Fukushima Prefecture.

The European nation has 7 nuclear reactors at 2 plants still operating.

6 parties are in the midst of policy discussions to form a new government.

They agreed to draw up the plan for a shutdown of the three oldest nuclear reactors by 2015 and a complete exit by 2025.

They say they will implement the plan after considering alternative energy sources to replace nuclear power, which currently provides over 50 percent of the nation's electricity.
Belgium had been reviewing the economic effects of a law passed to abolish nuclear energy in 2003. The Fukushima nuclear accident influenced the decision to implement the shutdown.

Elsewhere in Europe, Germany and Switzerland renounced the use of nuclear energy, while France and the Netherlands, both major nuclear plant exporters, support its use.

  • @Edano What apparent we are seeing is that one by one ,the country that have no nuclear weapons aspirations are all getting of nuclear power.... Following this line of thinking is easy to know the ones that will nor abandon the nuclear production :-(
