Rosatom has a medical reactor at Dimitrovgrad, Russia but I could only find mention of them making molybendium

The one in russia DOES make i-131

The russian reactor is pretty much due east

Polish medical reactor

The Polish reactor is closer and a bit north of Austria/Czech Rep. Could explain why Denmark got higher readings?
maps.google.com They just began making medical iodine there a little over a year ago

Maria is a research reactor converted for medical use.

@MaryW that one worked. The way they word it is vague. Are the talking about the EU iodine or new iodine being found in Japan.
by lillymunster 11/11/2011 5:20:24 PM

Added an update to the group site with data on the two medical reactors
by lillymunster 11/11/2011 5:20:37 PM

Off IAEA facebook Filip Talpa update (17:37CET) on www.suro.cz -- the I-131 levels are in uBq/m3 both for aerosols and gases. The levels are similar to levels after the Fuku accident. Current level cannot be caused be the Fuku accident and are probably not caused by any NPP either.
www.suro.czby lillymunster 11/11/2011 5:25:37 PM

The weather right now in eastern Europe is from the East and is typically there. The radiation being found is only I-131. It can't be from Fuku
by lillymunster 11/11/2011 5:26:31 PM

From the Czech source The measured concentration of radioactive iodine I-131 in the air to move around the levels that were in the Czech Republic in March 2011 after an accident IS Fukushima. It can be completely ruled out that the current contamination is caused by leakage from Fukushima. It is very unlikely that the cause was a leak from a nuclear power plant. For information, know that I -131 is used for example in large quantities in medicine (radiotherapy for cancer of the thyroid gland).

This is lame. I am putting more info on IAEA's facebook page about this than they are. :-( Useless prats.

Anyone familiar with either good media sources for Russia or Poland or another source that might announce a change at either medical reactor?

'J-Village' base to deal with Fukushima nuclear crisis shown to mediaFUKUSHIMA, Japan, Nov. 11, Kyodo
The government and Tokyo Electric Power Co. on Friday showed media organizations the ''J-Village'' sports facility in Fukushima Prefecture that is used as a base to deal with the nuclear crisis at the utility's Fukushima Daiichi power plant nearby.
Eight months after Japan's worst nuclear accident was triggered by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, work was still under way to improve the facility's environment for supporting long-term operations in responding to the situation at the plant.
All 12 soccer fields at the 50-hectare site have been diverted to heliports, decontamination facilities, materials depots, parking lots and other functions.
