  • 3pm update. 12th Nov unit 2
At 11:04 am on November 6, we started operation of radioactive material
decontamination instrument of spent fuel pool.
At 10:30 am on November 12, we temporarily stopped its operation and
started to replace adsorption instruments. We have kept cooling spent
fuel pools using circulating cooling system for spent fuel pool.
Afterwards, we completed the replacement and we restarted the operation
at 12:05 pm on the same day. We will appropriately replace adsorption
instruments of radioactive material decontamination instrument for
    spent fuel pool.

  • if it is an accident in a npp, a broken fuel rod, then there should be a bunch of other stuff around, we know that. so it must be industrial emission through a chimney. pharma-industry ? what is there around in eastern europe ? nobody knows ?

  • @Edano ONe in Poland another in Russia - both known iodine medical reactors
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 1:44:35 PM

  • @lillymunster ah, nice :) at least .... who is running them ?
    by Edano 11/12/2011 1:45:19 PM

  • Two medical reactors are located east of the areas detecting iodine 131. These are the Maria reactor in Poland and the RosAtom reactor in Dimitrovgrad Russia. The Maria reactor in Poland is closer to the areas detecting iodine in the air and was converted to medical use in 2010. The reactor was originally a research reactor converted to make medical isotopes like iodine 131. We DO NOT have any confirmation that either facility is the source of the leak. They are the only 2 known medical reactors that are operating in the region east of the areas finding iodine in the air.
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 1:45:31 PM

  • Russian one is run by Rosatom and a holding company that does the transportation and coordination with the medical isotope company in Canada
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 1:46:11 PM

  • @lillymunster wow ! it could be from russia, regarding the wide distribution from skandinavia to czechia.
    by Edano 11/12/2011 1:47:09 PM

  • The one in Poland is at their Inst of Atomic Energy just south of Warsaw. They recently converted their research reactor to make i-131 and contracted with the same Canadian company.
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 1:47:13 PM

  • Russia if the wind really took with it because it is central Russia. It could be the on near Warsaw if there was a divided or changing wind system like we saw at Fuku where there were two paths one north, one south due to the wind patterns and weather
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 1:48:35 PM

  • According to the Canadian company these two are the only reactors for medical isotopes in that part of Europe. There was one in Amsterdam but I think it is shut down and is the wrong geographic area
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 1:49:18 PM

  • @lillymunster the name of the company ?

  • I'm leaning towards it being the medical reactor in Poland. They took the Maria research reactor at their institute and converted it to make medical isotopes and restarted it in 2010. The age of the reactor (30+ years) the conversion to a new use and short time operating it makes me think they could be a possible cause. Then there is the statement from Poland last night that they thought Pakistan caused this from their reactor.
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 2:01:05 PM

  • @Edano Is that the director of the Rosatom?
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 2:01:49 PM

  • @lillymunster of the dimitrograd reactor, the facility is called "RIAR".
    by Edano 11/12/2011 2:02:24 PM

  • I also have contact info for the Maria reactor: www.mathnet.ru

    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 2:04:11 PM

  • @Edano Neither do I and I don't think we have anyone with that as an additional lang. I could google trans some simple questions and send as emails.

  • @lillymunster many east germans speak russian, but not me.
    by Edano 11/12/2011 2:05:50 PM

  • @Edano There is still a massive gap in the internet too. Much of the online content for these eastern countries just doesn't show up here no matter what you try to search.
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 2:06:03 PM

  • @lillymunster you switched your browser to unicode ? for the cyrill letters ?
    by Edano 11/12/2011 2:07:01 PM

  • @Edano for searching or in recent searches for this?
    by lillymunster 11/12/2011 2:07:51 PM

  • @lillymunster no, constantly. "View" -> "Encoding" -> "Unicode" or "UTF-8" in settings.
