  • @lily I suppose it would be difficult to come to any conclusion about Plutonium dispersion due to the fact, as far as I know, that no measurements of the isotopes have been released to the public.

The use the same open source modelling software that NILU utilizes. I know this model has come under some fire lately but NILU recently released this document supporting their modelling software:

    docs.google.com

I'm not entirely convinced we can trust the NILU modeling software 100%...

  • @LiberationFront The Norwegian models are just models and prone to miscalculations just like any other source of modeling. It isn't a totally exact science. Since much of it relies on weather and weather isn't 100% predictable . One problem with the Norwegian data is they ran a model called Zardoz. It wasn't intented to be a real model of what is going on or made public. Some people released it but misunderstood the information and it was miscommunicated as being "real" radiation data a few places. This caused a ton of confusion. So if looking at Norwegian modeling of the fallout we always need to make sure the source didn't accidentally involve that set of modeling.
    by lillymunster 12/10/2011 5:12:51 PM

  • @lillymunster All current and future data will be 'just models'. This is unfamiliar territory and not an exact science. That is the main issue with nuclear power, it is not understood by mankind.
    by MaryW 12/10/2011 5:16:31 PM

  • @MaryW What we do have for data points are the releases from the plant and monitoring stations. That can help confirm the validity of models after the fact. IE: a model says San Francisco was going to get a heavy fallout on May 1st. After the fact we can check radiation monitors at and near San Francisco to see if that actually happened. As far as I know nobody is going back and trying to confirm the two together.

  • @lillymunster Perhaps in the future we will be given information confirming the relationship between the two, its early in all studies being performed to come towards any type of conclusion.
    by MaryW 12/10/2011 5:22:46 PM

  • From the Datapoke.org Website:

"However, We will publish unverified models. We may publish models, that conflict with accepted technical data, if they lead to further exploration of all scientific and pragmatic methods in an aim to discover all relevant elements and relationships of this catastrophe."

I have to say I agree with this viewpoint. Any dispersion model of Plutonium is currently unverified; but if such models lead to actions invlolving the release of undiclosed data and/or further exploration of plutonium/uranium fallout I would say the benefits outweigh the risks.

The lower type is related to reflux because of unhealthy food consumption and high constant stress. The cancer may be curable depending on stage. Let's hope the best for him.

  • @LiberationFront I agree that plutonium modeling is going to be quite hard and really requires the on the ground testing of samples to confirm it. As far as I understand you would have to specifically test for plutonium in a sample. You can't just extrapolate it out of rad readings.

  • Here are the main findings of the Markey Report lilly just posted markey.house.gov

    1. Four NRC Commissioners attempted to delay and otherwise impede the creation of the NRC Near-Term Task Force on Fukushima.

    2. Four NRC Commissioners conspired, with each other and with senior NRC staff, to delay the release of and alter the NRC Near-Term Task Force report on Fukushima.

    3. The other NRC Commissioners attempted to slow down or otherwise impede the adoption of the safety recommendations made by the NRC Near-Term Task Force on Fukushima.

    4. NRC Chairman Greg Jaczko kept the other four NRC Commissioners fully informed regarding the Japanese emergency, despite claims to the contrary made by these Commissioners.

    5. A review of emails and other documents indicates high levels of suspicion and hostility directed at the Chairman.

    6. The consideration of the Fukushima safety upgrades is not the only safety-related issue that the other NRC Commissioners have opposed.

  • MEXICO CITY - A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit Guerrero state in southwest Mexico at 19:47 local time on Saturday (0147 GMT Sunday), the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake rattled buildings in Mexico City and seemed to go on for an unusually long period. There were no immediate reports of damage but residents ran out of buildings and gathered in the streets outside.

The temblor, centered 22 miles south of Teloloapan, was 40 miles deep, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a destructive tsunami was not generated by the quake. www.cnbc.com
