  • @M.I.A. Me too. I just don't trust any of it with all the political motivations. What is really going on? It seems like none of it boils down to safety for the public. So is Jaczko really standing up for public safety as claimed? All I see him saying in public sounds like promoting commercial power...

  • @lillymunster AMEN!!!It's human nature to defend and be loyal to an idea/profession you've invested part of yourself in (sorry for dangling participle lol). Even when motives are pure.
    by M.I.A. 12/10/2011 2:28:00 AM

  • @MaryW There is a really big push about the AP 1000 this may be part of why the industry is being noisy and sending their PR hacks back out to the media. Seen an uptick in articles out of nuke industry writers in recent weeks.

  • @Mid Valley This whole mess in DC worries me. How much is the true problem and what is political games and what the real goal of the politicians involved are. It shouldn't be who is a Republican or a Democrat, it should be a panel of unbiased scientists and public health experts.
    by lillymunster 12/10/2011 5:48:02 AM

  • They really just need to totally restructure the NRC. it has become a politicized toxic mess that can't function well.

  • This photo taken in June 2011 shows the No. 3 reactor building of Kyushu Electric Power Co.'s Genkai plant in the town of Genkai, southwestern Japan. Radioactive water leaked inside the nuclear power plant, but the contaminated water did not escape into the environment, the government said Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011. Tetsuya Saito, spokesman for the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, this nation's nuclear regulators, said 1.8 tons of radioactive water leaked inside Genkai, and the cause was still under investigation. The mishap at the reactor is a reminder of safety concerns as this nation battles meltdowns at the tsunami-crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi plant. • @Mid Valley How does one completely restructure an agency when the elected government can't decide what to have for lunch? Science needs to be playing a bigger role. I was pondering on that the other day. What if we elected people that had deep academic and research understanding of things rather than businessmen?

  • @lillymunster I wrestle with the idea of balance. I believe balance can only be restored with a major shake up/disruption. It is hard to point to the one thing that can restore sanity, tho lack of science is high on the list when considering the price is our environment and life itself.
by Mid Valley 12/10/2011 6:37:33 AM

  • After reading the description on the alert may, sounds like all nuclear-related people are arguing and not getting along. One says there is a leak, the other says no leak.

  • I see some of you are concerned about copyright of news that we post here. Well, to make sure no copyright is infringed you should post news the way I do. Whenever you quote the news put the text between " " and don't quote the whole article, only bits and pieces. Always provide the source link at the end. If you post the whole text you could be violating copyright. Linking sources is perfectly legal (see WikiPedia, for example). Moreover, if you want to copy the whole article, than make sure you add the name of the author and the source, and read the copyright agreement on the source website to make sure you're not infringing any copyright. Violating copyright is considered a crime in most countries around the world. I hope this helps.
