  • @Majj I do the double posting all the time too-no worries:)
    by MaryW 12/14/2011 10:29:41 PM

  • Hello you decent people :-)

On Fairewinds there's also the transcript of that 'China Syndrome' video: fairewinds.com

I don't get why the folk on enenews start picking on him ? His primary aim is to describe the progression from meltdown to 'china syndrome'.
Up to now I do trust him when he says that that 'molten blob' is relevantly cooler and therfore uncapable by now to melt through the remaining concrete -(assuming there would be another (?m) 7m to go) - but he also remarks that it's all suppositions as noone can tell what the situation really looks like.

Still I would have liked to know: what could be the maximun size/amount of that 'blob' and how is the presuming temperature decaying over the time.

  • @Vivre, the lunatic fringe will be very upset with Arnie's good news! There's gotta be an ensuing China-syndrome volcano and apocalyptic catastrophe, none of this, "It's not the end of the world" talk.
    by Ian 12/14/2011 10:36:22 PM

  • @Ian - thanks - that gives me a relieve not having lost my understanding yet completely ;-)
btw - your last vid was very informative and I'm always astonished about your appointed and calm polite way
    by Vivre 12/14/2011 10:49:17 PM

  • @Vivre, hay thanks! :)
Here's the clear argument I see from Arnie's video: if there's not been a groundwater-corium explosion by now, it's not dug deep enough to hit groundwater, and if it's not dug deep enough by this point in time, it's not going to be digging any deeper due to its significant relative cooling, and so it's not going to hit groundwater. I bet that's the case!

  • "Now They Tell Us" Series: Radioactive Cesium Fallout in Fukushima from March to June Was 6.83 Million Becquerels
"It took only 9 months for the Ministry of Education and Science to finally disclose the number for Fukushima Prefecture. The Ministry is yet to say anything about Miyagi Prefecture. ...
Still, the number is only for radioactive cesium (134 and 137). No word about radioactive iodine, or about any other nuclide."

  • So what is up in Japan right now? Lots of people suddenly spewing the truth or tidbits of it. The media has been rather critical lately, calling TEPCO on their tsunami did it routine. Govt. officials admitting nobody trusts them. Hints nobody is going home to the 50 mSv/yr places.
    by lillymunster 12/14/2011 11:34:28 PM

  • From Vivre's link: " Well, by releasing the data, albeit very late, the Ministry makes it rather clear that the measuring station in Fukushima was just fine, and it had the data."

    And this:
The Ministry of Education and Science's press release on December 14 (Japanese only) simply states the reason for the disclosure now as "The results just came in", on top of page 2.
    by lillymunster 12/14/2011 11:37:30 PM

  • I have a very bad feeling.
    by lillymunster 12/14/2011 11:37:48 PM

  • @lillymunster - it could be a tactical step to release some of the 'national' pressure that starts worrying them seriously
    - or an indirect adressing to other contries

remember - in 2 days the 'japanes cold shutdown' needs to be swallowed ;-)
    by Vivre 12/14/2011 11:43:04 PM

  • @Vivre this radiation data is really bad news. The article you posted has more detail. The levels are quite high, they had the data all along yet only released it now so it is an admission they were lying. Maybe it is bad news/good news trying to make the bad news look better by announcing cold shutdown?
    by lillymunster 12/14/2011 11:45:37 PM

  • So with this new radiation data are these levels enough to change the potential for people to have health problems? I am still trying to wrap my head around the numbers in the report vs. exposures
    by lillymunster 12/14/2011 11:48:24 PM

  • If anyone thinks an english translation of the report would be useful let me know. I should be able to get a translation done if needed
    by lillymunster 12/14/2011 11:50:30 PM

  • I enjoyed watching Arnie Gunderson's latest presentation. Most of the lunatic fringe online seems to be made up of hardcore libertarians, fundies, and similar types who are desperate to gain acceptance and credibility online and IRW. Fukushima has provided them with the perfect excuse to indulge in their favourite midnight paranoid fantasies. I still hold groups with real power in the establishment in greater contempt, such as the Union of Concerned Scientists, who are to nuclear power activism what Ducks Unlimited is to nature conservation.

  • great aliens

did you notice this article from 11.12?

Radiation levels to drop to 3/4 in 1 year, 1/2 in 3 years
"Scientists made a shocking finding in early November at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant's No. 2 reactor: They detected radioactive xenon, which indicated that nuclear fission was still occurring."
    ajw.asahi.com
    by Vivre 12/14/2011 11:58:45 PM

  • @lillymunster - heh, heh...I think he'll tackle that in his next presentation.
    by Andrea C. 12/14/2011 11:59:04 PM

  • @Vivre knew of the xenon, didn't see the rad leveldrops
    by lillymunster 12/15/2011 12:00:55 AM

  • @Vivre The title of that article gets me everytime I see it! Do the math...it is totally incorrect, unless there is an increase in radiation in year #2
    by MaryW 12/15/2011 12:01:49 AM

  • @lillymunster - I've have no idea why they're releasing some datas now, but I'm sure it's for a deliberate self-benefit. Maybe they have encreasing leaks in their own rows and trying to stay beforehand.

... and whatever the datas show (which I can't valuate), I'm sure the situation is very severe and already points of no return (-ing the effects) for many many people

  • @MaryW - true! - I don't like the 'feel' it delivers, that the decrease could be straight-line
We do have enough evidence that living with low-dose radiation is vastly unhealthy and move the people out of these regions first and look (years?) later how and where recovery could be achived.

  • a drop of good news on the way - even people being far off start realising the intolerable usage of nuc-power

Fukushima disaster puts Indian nuclear plant on hold
"If residents in a southern Indian community didn't know anything about nuclear power--even with a plant being built in their backyard--the disaster at Fukushima came as a rude wake-up call.
    ...
In August, some residents went on a hunger strike, calling for its suspension. About 40,000 people blocked the plant's entrance for three days the following month.
Protesters have since barred buses that carried plant workers to and from their dormitory some 16 kilometers away.
    ...
"All of a sudden, (residents) have started saying, 'No, we don't need a nuclear power plant,'
    ...
The project had faced opposition from the start, but protests intensified after the Fukushima No. 1 plant was damaged
    ...
A group of protesters in Koodankulam has sent an open letter to the United States, Russia and France, telling them not to sell nuclear power plants to India.
    ...
"While Japanese citizens are suffering from the accident, how can you talk about the nuclear power business, selling the same technology to others?"
    ...
Opposition has also grown in Jaitapur, in the eastern state of Maharashtra, where six reactors are planned with assistance from France.
    ...
In Indonesia, prone to earthquakes, several nuclear power plant projects have been put on hold since the accident.
