NRC found some ECCS models are wrong and may be off by 50 degrees of temperature. Hmm wonder where they might have got the idea to retest ECCS models from?
An NRC licensee recently sponsored an analysis to determine the effect that accounting for fuel
thermal conductivity degradation due to irradiation would have on the results of a realistic
emergency core cooling evaluation that it was proposing to implement. The analysis
determined that the effect would be significant in that the predicted peak fuel cladding
temperature from the most severe postulated loss-of-coolant accident would increase by more
than 50 degrees Fahrenheit (°F).
via NRC email - can post the whole thing somewhere if it is of interest

Ended the NRC task force phone call, sounded like they were going to be bogged down in talking about what existing models to use for seismic the rest of the meeting.

@MaryW the mayor of Futuba is already planning their recovery and reconstruction...
by lillymunster 12/14/2011 9:27:20 PM

@MaryW looking at the chart - it looks like total radiation including tellerium etc. still not good but needs more investigation. People who think Futuba will be habitable any time soon are delusional.
by lillymunster 12/14/2011 9:31:37 PM

@MaryW The Japanese government seems to have a very unusual streak of being disconnected from reality.
by lillymunster 12/14/2011 9:35:19 PM

I have seen hints in the last week or so in news articles where govt. officials hint than the 50 mSv/year areas won't be usable any time soon. I think they are building up to another new admission. I hope this one comes with some decent help for people
by lillymunster 12/14/2011 9:36:43 PM

So they do decontamination efforts and talk of rebuilding in Okuma and Futuba, the two places that will probably never be habitable again. Maybe it is just trying to prove they tried everything first?
