@Pedro Jesus that is rather cool. I suppose it helps sell installations if they do some of the estimation work for people.

TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant 20 years ago, the emergency generator, soaked in water leaking from the pipes, it was having trouble no longer work, former employees from talking 分Karimashi TEPCO other. Measures to promote water generator, the problem could also be a chance to obtain prevent a serious accident like this, as a result, measures were Tsunagarimasen.
Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, the emergency diesel generators basement floor, no longer functions flowed flooded by the tsunami, it was a nuclear reactor 冷Yasenaku, becomes one of the causes of the situation is serious directly below. From such flooding, troubles will also give an opportunity to protect the generator that was happening in October 1991, 20 years ago, found in the story of a former employee of Tokyo Electric Power Co. et al. According to these former employees of the troubles, in the turbine building of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 1, water flows into the basement leaked from piping, emergency generator no longer works. At the time, was a former employee, Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power technology is close to the sea from the turbine building, "If a tsunami coming, and thought unusable generators flooded basement in the same way, boss consulted, "said the like. Meanwhile, TEPCO, then, the door of a room with the generator is subjected to measures that the water and transferring to high ground where the generator, assuming the tsunami did not take measures. TEPCO This is "the cause of this problem, its anti-leaking pipes are taken from. In addition," the risk manager in consultation with the tsunami, "the former employee's claim for a boss at the time, not consulted with the recognition that "You are.

@M.I.A. wow, good find! Did his concerns ever get addressed in the later reviews? His letter was about 1 year ago. That is a short time for major design changes to be made and tested...

From the non-concurrence:
2. As described in Section B of this Non-concurrence Process Form, certain sections of the SER will be revised to clarify the
bases for the staffs determination that there is reasonable assurance that the shield building meets relevant requirements. As
these changes to the SER do not affect the design or analyses submitted by the applicant, nor address the issues raised in the
non-concurrence, there is no need to seek re-concurrence by the non-concurring individual in the revised SER as his concerns
remain unresolved.
Final status of the non-concurrence: The non-concurrence remains in place
It sounds like the NRC did nothing to make the design be changed so it may have been approved with these flaws still in place!
by lillymunster 12/29/2011 3:50:16 PM

A couple of issues I remember from past discussion of the AP 1000: The water tank at the top of the reactor building makes it top heavy and you have water sloshing during a quake at the top of the building. Parts of the reactor building are cast concrete that are brought to the site and assembled in a modular fashion. This means there are connection and seams in the concrete protection structures that could be weak points in an accident.

by lillymunster 12/29/2011 3:58:31 PM

I am reading through the NRC version released. What seems to be the big issue is the upper portion of the outer containment building. It failed on their concrete tests and computer modeling they tried to do to justify its safety were flawed and didn't pass concrete testing standards for computer modeling.
